Playoffs Round #2
Round two of the playoffs saw one series sweep, while the other came down to the very last player before it was decided. The Blackjacks advance to the finals after a sweep of the X-Men, as they scored 175 points for the week. The defending champs Connection were taken to the very last player, and LoDuca came through as they slip by the Creeping Death by a single point. The Blackjacks and Connection face off this week for the League Championship. The owners involved have already decided that if MLB is to go on strike on Friday, that the league will have Co-Champs this year, and they will split the top 2 place prize money evenly.
Here is a look at how the games were decided:
Blackjacks 5 X-Men 0
Bill's team had no trouble with the X-Men
this week, as the series was just about over after Friday's games. The
Blackjacks won 52-49 in the M-Th games, and then had a huge Friday, defeating
the X-Men 55-7. As is the X-Men's work to come back was tough enough at that
point, the Blackjacks followed up the big Friday game with a 42-35 win to clinch
a spot in the finals. Sunday was the same results, as the Blackjacks complete
the sweep with a 26-24 win. Vladi led the way for the Blackjacks with an
amazingly consistent week, as he posted scores of 8-9-9-10 to lead the team with
36 points for the week. Fellow stud OF Green helped out with 25, and Houston
pitching had an impressive 34. The Blackjacks have one week to go, but will have
their work cut out for them with the defending champs up next for Bill's team.
The X-Men had a banner week in round one, but Al/Mike couldn't follow it up with
an equally impressive week. Chipper remained hot as he led the team with 28, but
the X-Men OF's could only manage 19 as a group. That was just much for Al/Mike
to overcome. A solid season for the X-Men, as Al takes his usual spot near the
top of the league.
Connection 3 Creeping Death 2
An exciting finish to an exciting week for
these two teams, as Scott/Chris come back to win by 1 point and move on to try
and repeat as league champs against the Blackjacks. The Connection jumped out to
the early lead with a 69-56 win on the M-TH games. The Death bounce back and win
Friday 38-31, and then take a nice 17 point lead in totals thanks to their 32-9
win on Saturday. The Death needed to win either the Sunday game, or lose by no
more than 16. The Death were struggling Sunday to score, and also hurt by
getting two DNP's from their starting OF's Hunter and Matthews. The red hot
Oakland pitching staff also cooled off with a zero point game. The Connection
were not doing much better, as they also got 2 DNP's from their 1B's, and the
rest of the team was also struggling. Then the Connection heated up with the
later games. Anderson goes yard, and posts a 9. Dye also goes yard in the 9th
inning of his game, to post a 11. Klesko has a solid game with a 5. So as we
approached the final game of the week, the Connection were leading Sunday's game
32-17. The Connection still had LoDuca to play in the Sunday night game. LoDuca
comes through with a 3, to give the Connection a 144-143 win in total points.
Doesn't get much closer than that!!!!!! The Connection were led by Dye's 25, and
Pujols and Nomar each chipped in 19. Scott/Chris have one last hurdle to go over
as they try and repeat as league champs. The Death bow out after a great battle,
but the Commish and Mr. Tom Brady were quite disappointed with the outcome of
the week. Durham led the Death with 36, while the Oakland pitching staff
remained consistent with 32. Good year for the Death, as they had struggled and
battled back to be competitive come playoff time.
