Week #5

Who let the Dogs out???? The X-Men lead the way in week #5 with a new league high score of 185. The hottest team right now seems to be Frank Uhl's Contributors team, or at least some think so. The Stingrays are still rolling, the Death is the schedule makers favorite and the Oysters still can't put back to back weeks together. The Redbirds are still struggling to score, the Destroyers scored points this week, but didn't get many wins. The Wiseguys are still looking for a trade to another division, the Clippers have the division leader in their crosshairs this coming week and the team that everybody loves continues to pile up the losses. (That would be the Cobras for the record). The Victory keep scoring well, can't get any wins, the Barracudas are struggling, the Vipers wonder what the heck happened to the OF. The Blackjacks are a team waiting to explode and last but not least is the defending champs, still looking for a winning week.

That about sums up the state of affairs in the UAL Fantasy league.

The score reporting continues to be solid, thanks to everyone for their help with that.

Now, on to the results from week four:

Creeping Death 4    Oysters 1
The Commish and Mr. Tom Brady continue to work their magic with another 4-1 week, but fail to get a bonus win for the first time this year. The Death sit a top the C Division with a 8 point lead, and just 3 points back from the league leading Stingrays. The team was led by the Big Hurt's 28 point week. The Oysters continue to play every other week, this week was the down week as the team posted a league low 91 points. Wilson had a 20 point week, but JR/Corey are really missing the big bat of Juan to help put a end to the inconsistent play. The Oysters remain a distant second in the A Division, and need to get back on track again this week or they may loose sight of the Stingrays in the still young season.

Wiseguys 3    Destroyers 2
George/Chris get a solid week from the team, as the Wiseguys post the 4th high score of the week, but can only get the 3 wins. Jimmy Rollins was huge this week, posting 34 points, thanks to the 2 triple game on Saturday. The weekend scores were 28-32-31 for the team, something that will win many more games for George/Chris if they can keep up the pace. Steve had a solid scoring week, 6th high in the league, but can only get 2 wins. The Destroyers were led by Vina's 26 points, along with Lowell's 24. If newly acquired Magglio can heat up and Luis starts performing like last year, the wins will not be far away for the team.

Clippers 3    Barracudas 2
Mike/Harry's team makes a late rally to win Sat-Sun and totals, thanks in part to a bad Sunday for the Barracudas. The team was led by Boone's 24 and Manny's 18. The Clippers are in 2nd place in the C Division, and have a key match up next with the Death Squad. Bert/Pam/Ron were cruising along with wins on M-Th and Friday, then a close game on Saturday that they loss (30-26), but then the team came to a crashing halt on Sunday. The Barracudas scored (-7) on Sunday! That is a not a misprint, they scored NEGATIVE SEVEN on Sunday. Kiss the total points goodbye! A nice week for Cirillo, 25 points, led the way for the team.

Stingrays 4    Cobras 1
A bad week for the Stingrays, they lost a game and didn't finish first in point totals. Merv/Mike are looking to break the team up at this point, performances like this will not be accepted. The Stingrays are 22-3 with 5 consecutive top 8 finishes. Enough said! Maze/Sturken are really struggling, falling even further behind the magical Death in the C Division. Berkman continues to lead the team, with 29 this week. All is not well in Cobraville, as Maze is already looking towards the football season and Sturken is trying to find ways to motivate his team and partner. Still lots of games to be played, will the Cobras find a way back into things? Time will tell......

Hummers 4    Vipers 1
Jeff/Scottx2 have their Hummers on a roll as the team gets 4 more wins and a top 8 finish. The Hummers have taken control of the D Division after early season struggles. The team was led by Bonds' 29 and Sexson's 23 this week. Rogan's team has a rough week, scoring just 96 and only getting the one win. Helton is back to his old form with another 20+ week, but the OF is really struggling right now. Stewart had -2 for the week, and Abreu is a shadow of his former self for some unknown reason. The Vipers are just 7 points back from the lead in the B Division, so if Rogan can get the team going, they will be a force to contend with.

X-Men 4    Victory 1
Al/Mike's X-Men bounce back from a sweep with a league high 185 points and a 4 win week. If not for a superhuman game by Cameron on Thursday, the team probably would have got the sweep. The X-Men had 4 players score 20+ this week, Led by a now healthy Erstad and emerging stud Spivey with 27 each. The X-Men sit just 3 points back, and if this week is a sign of times to come, Al/Mike will take their usual spot in the post-season play. Brian's team started off with a bang, as Cameron's 4 HR game during the week helped them score 78 M-Th. The Victory were no match for the red hot X-Men over the weekend though, and have just 1 win to show for the week. Cameron led the team with 29 as he couldn't follow up the big game with anything else.

Contributors 4    Connection 1
Frank Uhl's team is on a roll! A nice 164 point week helped the team put the Connection back to the drawing board again. Frank seems to be making all the right moves, as newly acquired Koskie leads the way with 32 points this week. Where oh where have you gone John McSwain? :>) The defending champs continue their early season struggles, as Scott/Chris can't get a break at all. The team scores 132, good enough for a top 8 finish, but the team still sits in the basement of the D Division. The Connection is healthy now, so will the defending champs please step up to the plate and defend your title please! :>)

Blackjacks 3    Redbirds 2
Bill's Blackjacks are on the verge of breaking out. The talent is there and team looks solid on paper. They get 3 wins again this week, but still couldn't crack the top 8. Vladi continues to impress and the Blackjacks are looking to make a run at the division leaders real soon. Larry has thrown his hands up in despair with the team. The Redbirds continue to not break the 100 point mark each week, leading to the question...... has a fantasy team ever fired their manager in midseason???? I hear Buddy Bell has lots of free time on his hands right now! :>)

Week #5 Awards:

Player of the Week:    Rollins, Wiseguys    34 Points
A big 18 point game on Saturday helps Rollins post the league high score for the week.

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Boston, Wiseguys     36 Points
A clean sweep of the player awards for the Wiseguys, as Pedro helps the cause this week.

Surprise of the Week:    Cameron, Victory    4 SOLO HR game
The amazing part of Cameron's history making game, is that somehow he managed to hit all 4 HR's with nobody on base. Go figure????

Sad story of the week:    Barracudas    -7 Points on Sunday
That may be an all-time record in futility! The entire 'Cudas offense combined for 0, and the Mets pitching got them -7. BAD!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, we had 100% compliance on the scores, NICE JOB EVERYONE!!!!!

Good luck to everyone in week #6....... I am outta here!
