Week #4

Week #4 and the Stingrays continue to led the league in team points and have quite a few sidepots in hand. The still young season has a long way to go, but the 'Rays now have 9 point lead in the A Division. The Creeping Death team is the early season leader in the C/D conference, just 2 points back of the Stingrays for the overall league leader. The D Division is the tightest division race, with just 4 points separating the 4 teams. The scoring dipped back down again this past week, just a sign of the power outage in MLB baseball overall. Heck, when the Commish's beloved Phillies can go an entire weekend at Coor's Field without a single homerun, something is not right.

We had our first trade of the year, as the Destroyers and Contributors swapped 6 players. Lots of rumors abound of trades in the works, but no one else has yet to pull the trigger. Hopefully things will heat up on the trade front in the next few weeks, as teams are becoming more aware of their deficiencies and looking to fill the holes in their teams.

The score reporting continues to be solid, allowing for a smooth start to the year. I know many of you enjoy getting the weekly results on Monday night, and that will hopefully continue with the help of everyone doing such a good job with the scores.

Now, on to the results from week four:

Oysters 5    Redbirds 0
JR/Corey continue their every other week performance, as their Oysters get the sweep over the Redbirds. The Oysters only made up a single point on the A Division leading Stingrays, but the team will take what they can get as they now have the #1 wildcard spot in the conference. JR/Corey are hoping to break the every other week thing in week #5, something they will need to do as the Stingrays show no sign of slipping. The Oysters were led by Wilson, Sierra and Biggio who all had 20+ point weeks. Larry/Tim have yet another disappointing week, as they posted a league low 92 points. Good news for the Redbirds though, no one else in the D Division has really stepped up yet, so they sit just 4 points out of first. Sammy had an off week for the team with just 10, and early season points leader Delgado slumped to 8 points this week. The Redbirds have shown flashes of excellence in the young season, and with a little more consistency, they will be a team to contend with in their division.

Hummers 3    Destroyers 2
Jeff/Scottx2 get a big Sunday night game from Anderson (12), to slip away with a Sunday win and total points as the Hummers win 3 over the Destroyers. Solid weeks from Anderson with 30, and 20 from the other Giambi led the way for the Hummers. The team sits on top of the tight D Division with 14 team points, and the Hummers actually got a transaction through, after getting undercut numerous times in the last two weeks. All is good right now in Hummerville. Steve has yet another below par effort from his team, as they let a opportunity get away to get the team going in the right direction. Steve got 15 points from Gibbons, but no one else scored more than 10 for the week. The weekly 3B debate of who to play will finally be over for the Destroyers, as they shipped Koskie out in a package to get stud OF Ordonez from the Contributors. Still early in the year, but the Destroyers need a few solid weeks in a row to keep the dream alive.

Victory 3    Barracudas 2
Brian's Victory team uses a big Sunday game to win total points and the decisive 3rd win. The team had a solid week, posting the 2nd high score in the league. Tejada finally comes around and leads the team with 29, and Glaus chips in with 23. Team Victory sits in 2nd place in the tough D Division, and continues to score well each week, something that will eventually help the team possibly separate itself from the Division. Bert/Pam/Ron get a solid scoring week, cracking the top 8 for the first time this year, but couldn't hold onto to get the much needed 3rd win in total points. The 'Cudas were led by Cirillo and Menechino who both posted 20+ point weeks. The A Division race has been all Stingrays so far, and with Burks having his annual hamstring pull, things are not getting any easier for Bert/Pam/Ron.

Stingrays 4    Connection 1
The Stingrays are quite good if you haven't figured it out for yourself. The team keeps rolling along, and Merv/Mike have a very impressive 18-2 record right now. Yet another league leading score this week, as the team was led by Vizquel's 26, McLemore's 24 and Floyd's 20. Once again for those that are still not convinced..... the Stingrays are VERY GOOD! The defending champs continue to struggle, but no fear in the hearts of Scott/Chris. The team has been banged up all year, and week #5 will finally be the debut of the team they had drafted. And even more good news for the Connection faithful, the team is just 4 points out of first in their division, despite all the early season struggles. The Connection did manage to get the last spot in the top 8 this week, as the middle infielders (Nomar/Marlon) both post team 18 point weeks. The Connection have been waiting to get healthy, now they are, and it is time for the defending champs to start a run at defending their title.

Vipers 3    Cobras 2
Rogan's team follows up last week's solid performance with a narrow 3-2 win over the Cobras. After a slow start, the Vipers are now just 3 points out of the B Division lead. The team was led by Helton's 23 points, his 2nd "normal" performance in a row. The only bad news this week, was the Vipers just missed the bonus win by 2 points. Abreu continues to struggle this year, but it is a matter of time before he heats up and that will be bad news for Rogan's fellow B Division teams. Maze/Sturken have a tough week, as they see their Cobras squad lose games by 6, 2, and total points by 4. After a fast start, the Cobras have struggled the past few weeks and have slipped 8 points back in the C Division, despite having 4th best scoring average in the league. Trades could be coming for the Cobras, hopefully Maze/Sturken can get on the same page and get a deal done.

Creeping Death 5    X-Men 0
The Commish & partner Mr. Tom Brady continue to impress as the Death Squad pulls off the clean sweep of the X-Men. The Creeping Death improve their record to 16-4, with their 4th consecutive top 8 finish. The team was led by a big 37 point week from Oakland pitching, along with 18 point weeks from Beltran & Womack. The Commish and his partner have been happy with the results so far, but know that there is many games yet to play and look to continue the early season success in week #5 against the Oysters. The Al/Mike show has a rough week, as they get swept and see the Contributors overtake them for the lead in the B Division. Erstad getting a DNP for most of the week didn't help, and the team continues to wait for stud OF Walker to finally start hitting like he normally does. The X-Men have lots of talent, and it won't be long before Al performs his usual magic to get the team back on the winning track. Then again, maybe Mike is pulling some strings, and when an owner doesn't know who this Ichiro guy on Seattle is, that could be pretty scary! :>)

Contributors 5    Wiseguys 0
McSwain/Frank get the clean sweep of the Wiseguys, and move into the B Division lead. The Contributors also pull off the first trade of the year, trading some of it's OF depth to improve it's struggling infield. The team was led this week by Simon's 30 and fellow Tiger Higgy's 23. Time will tell on the trade, but McSwain/Frank seem to have the team moving in a very positive direction. George/Chris have a average week scoring, but fail to get a single win for the week. The Wiseguys have many guys struggling right now, but if players like Alomar and Edmonds start to heat up, they will be a force to contend with. The positive for the 'Guys this week, was a league high 48 points from their Boston pitching staff. And no......it wasn't just Pedro this week!

Blackjacks 3    Clippers 2
Bill's Blackjacks team doubles their season win total with the 3 win week, and their first top 8 finish of the year. The team was led by Batista's huge 39 point week, and Vladi was not far behind with 36. The Blackjacks have been struggling, but this could just be a sign of things to come for Bill's team that has lots of talent throughout the lineup. The Clippers post a weak 2 points on Friday, and could not recover to get the total points win. The Cubs pitching let Mike/Harry down this week, with games of 9, -7, 6, and -3. After a 9 point M-Th game they finish with just 5 points for the week. That is not good!

Week #4 Awards:

Player of the Week:    Batista, Blackjacks    39 Points
After posting just 3 wins in the first 3 weeks, Bill's team comes alive with a 3 win week and a bonus win. Teammate Valdi finished 2nd for the award with 36, the Clippers should be thankful they won 2 games!

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Boston, Wiseguys     48 Points
The first no-hitter of the year by Lowe helped the Wiseguys post the league high for the week. Bad news was, most of the Wiseguys offense was no-hit for the week as the team was swept by the Contributors.

Surprise of the Week:    Walker, X-Men    34 points in 4 weeks
Times are tough for the local baseball team, Buddy gets canned and Walker can't crack the top 20 in OF's. Hey wait a minute, they have won HOW many in a row now???????

Quote of the Week:    Coach Scotty, Connection
"Finally I have my original line-up healthy. Now the CHAMPS are back. Bring on the Contributors". Scared yet John/Frank? :>)

Again, we had 100% compliance on the scores, NICE JOB EVERYONE!!!!!

Good luck to everyone in week #5....... I am outta here!
