Week #17
With just one week to go in the regular season, all the division races are going down to the wire, as 3 divisions have a tie for first, and the other has just a single point difference. Now that is a photo finish!!!!!!!
In the A Division, the Oysters and Stingrays are tied at 59, while the Destroyers are 1 point back at 58. The Destroyers and Oysters face off in the final week, while the Stingrays play the long since eliminated Barracudas, who can really cause some headaches for the 'Rays if they find a way to play well. The 3 top A Division teams are almost assured a wildcard spot as well, unless of a few sweeps take place.
The X-Men hold a 1 point lead over the Blackjacks in the B Division, while the Vipers playoff hopes are quickly fading. The Contributors are officially out of it after a horrible second half of the season, but play the X-Men the final week and can really play the spoiler role.
The Creeping Death are fading as well, and now are tied with the Clippers in the C Division. The Cobras need a clean sweep of the Death to have even a chance at a playoff birth. The Clippers and Death need few wins to wrap a wildcard spot, but the division title is up for grabs. The Wiseguys are out of the playoffs.
The Connection have caught the Hummers in the D Division, as they are tied at 58. The two teams don't play each other in the final week's division games, so some serious scoreboard watching will be going on for the two teams. Both the Hummers and Connection are assured of at least a wildcard spot. The Victory and Redbirds are out of the playoffs, but will have a significant role in the D Division winner.
Now we'll take a look at week #17 results:
Blackjacks 3 Oysters 2
Bill's Blackjacks get 3 wins over the top
team in the league, but fail to get a much needed top 8 finish. A huge 19 point
game for Green was enough to help the Blackjacks hold onto the 2 point win in
total points. JR/Corey have their first bad week in a long time, as they let 4
teams move within a point of their league leading point total. Kearns and Biggio
led the team with 18 apiece.
Destroyers 5 Vipers 0
Steve's team keeps rolling right along, as
they sweep the Vipers and put themselves square in the middle of the A Division
race, as well as the overall points title. Gonzo was big again with 34 points
this week to lead the team. Rogan's team picked the wrong week to stumble, as
they have put their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy. After playing well the
last month, only 3 players on the Vipers managed to score double digits this
week. Hillenbrand led the way with 33.
X-Men
3 Barracudas 2
Al/Mike get 3 wins and a crucial top 8
finish, to hold onto a 1 point lead in the B Division. Chipper finally had a
banner week as he posted a big 35 points to lead the X-Men. Bert/Pam/Ron
continue to play out the string, as they did manage a top 8 finish. On a
positive note, Pam has been solid with the scores all year, no matter how
disappointing. And now she has Excel to really help out the cause. Maybe she can
pick the players at the draft next year as well. It couldn't hurt!
Stingrays 5 Contributors 0
Merv/Mike get a much needed sweep of the
Contributors, as they pull into a tie for the A Division lead. Damon had 34,
while Lawton had 24 to lead the 'Rays. John/Frank continue their 2nd half free
fall, all the way out of the playoffs. Good luck to these gentleman in football,
and best of luck to John with his new restaurant. Could be worse, you could have
got married this summer! :>)
Connection 5 Cobras 0
Scott/Chris climb all the way back in the D
Division, and pull even with the Hummers thanks to their clean sweep of the
Cobras. The season team scoring pot was most likely wrapped up as well for the
team, as the defending champs are really on a roll right now. Maze/Sturken get
swept, most likely fall out of the playoffs, watch Nomar go off to probably wrap
up the SS sidepot, and saw Fick score 1 point for the week, most likely
eliminating him from the catcher sidepot race. And Maze's kid knocked his
permanent front teeth out last week. Geeeeeeezzzzz, when it rains it
pours!!!!!!!!
Redbirds 4 Creeping Death 1
Larry/Tim's Redbirds play the spoiler real
well this week, as they nearly sweep the Creeping Death. The Redbirds are out of
the playoffs, but a hurting on the Commish's team, as they were led by
McLemore's 19. The Commish & Mr. Tom Brady figured that the division title was
theirs as long as nothing seriously bad happened. Well, something seriously bad
happened. A complete team funk this week, and now they are left to fight for the
division title with the Clippers in the final week. Oakland pitching had 33, but
no offensive player scored more than 10. Not good......
Hummers 4 Wiseguys 1
Jeff/Scottx2 got four wins, and top 8
finish, and still lost ground to the Connection. Tough week! The Hummers still
have a chance for the division crown, and the overall league points title, and
with another week like this they just may sweep it all. The Hummers were led by
Barry's 33. The Wiseguys are out of the playoffs, and had a bad week. Pudge had
16, but much else good news for the 'Guys these days.
Clippers 5 Victory 0
Mike/Harry get a much needed sweep of the
struggling Victory, as they pull even with the Death in the C Division. The
'Clips were led by Boone's 30 point week. The Clippers face the Wiseguys the
last week. Brian's Victory look so good early in the year as they led the league
in scoring for quite some time, but all the missed opportunities finally caught
up with them as they had a second league low score week in a row to seal their
playoff fate. The Victory are no left to play the spoiler, and another 80 point
week will not help anyone in the playoff races.
Week
#17 Awards:
Player of the Week:
Nomar/Chipper, Connection/X-Men 35 Points
Nomar most likely wraps up the SS sidepot, and helps the Connection pull even
with the Hummers. Chipper helps the X-Men get a top 8 finish, the single point
they lead the Blackjacks by.
Pitching
Staff of the Week: Cubs, Clippers
35 Points
A solid week for the 'Clips staff, as they use it to sweep the Victory and pull
even with the Creeping Death.
Surprise of the Week: The Redbirds step up to the plate and nearly sweep a Creeping Death team that had been playing well. As we enter the final week of the regular season, every division match up will be decided by "other" teams. Who will be the final week spoiler next week??????
Sad
story of the week:
Not really sad, but when was the last time a division winner in ANY division had
not been decided going into the final week???? Nice balance in the league this
year!
Good luck to everyone in week #18. I am outta here!
