Week #11
This was wedding week for the Commish, and the Blackjacks tried to rain on the Commish's day. The Commish's Creeping Death team finally snapped out of its recent funk, and posted the 2nd high score of the week. Unfortunately it was not all good for the Commish, as his opponent was the Blackjacks who finished with the high point total in the league for the week. You can't have your cake and eat it too! (Or is that smash your cake?)
The Destroyers return to the top 3 in the league in weekly points, as they hold off the Connection, while the Oysters were busy nearly sweeping the Victory. The team they are chasing in the A Division, the Stingrays, could only manage a single win (and that by virtue of a tiebreaker on M-Th) which means the A Division race is really starting to get close. The Barracudas actually scored 123 points, and had a winning week for a change. They are still a distant fourth in the division.
The Contributors slumped to a new low, posting just 93 points and the league low for the week. The Blackjacks are now just 3 points back of the Contributors, while the Vipers had a tough week against the Wiseguys, failing to move closer than 5 points in the B Division race. The X-Men still show flashes of brilliance, and while in the basement of the B Division, they are just 6 points out of the lead.
The Death still hold a slim 3 point lead over the Clippers, who battle the X-Men in a close match. The Cobras cool off a little after a recent run of solid weeks to remain 7 back. The Wiseguys are 9 back in the C Division, but have a chance to get back in the race with next weeks head-to-head with the Death.
The Hummers are starting to pull away from the pack in the D Division, opening up a 10 point lead in the division. The Victory could only manage 1 win, while the Redbirds and Connection got just 2 wins. The Hummers have the biggest division lead in the league, and also now hold the sidepot for most team points.
The trade deadline is this week!!!!!!!! All trades must be completed by Sunday at 9pm!!!!!!!!!!!!
On to the results from week #11:
Barracudas 3 Redbirds 2
Bert/Pam/Ron finally get a winning week, and
make the top 8 for just the 2nd time all year. The 'Cudas were led by Jeter's 23
and 29 from the Mets pitching. "BPR" still have a very long road ahead of them
back to respectability. Larry/Tim's Redbirds continue to find ways to lose, this
week was no different. The team got a slim win 38-37 during the week, and then
posted a Fri win, but then got swept the rest of the way. Sammy led the team
with 23, but Delgado continues his inconsistent ways with just 7. When Delgado
scores well, the Redbirds are a team to contend with, but when he doesn't they
struggle.
Hummers 4 Stingrays 1
Jeff/Scottx2 nearly get the sweep, only
losing the weekday games 49-49 on a tiebreaker. The Hummers leap over their
opponent for the overall points lead in the league thanks to the week. The
Hummers were led by Barry's 23, Sexson's 20 and Atlanta's 27. Merv/Mike continue
to struggle, as their Stingrays team gives up the overall points lead after
holding it all year. The 'Rays had just Bagwell and Vizquel score more than 10,
as the team also sees their scoring average drop even further, putting that
sidepot in serious jeopardy. Oh how the mighty have fallen!
Oysters 4 Victory 1
JR/Corey keep the pedal to the floor as
their Oysters are closing on the A Division lead. The Oysters nearly sweep the
usually high scoring Victory, losing only on Sunday 28-25. The team was led by
Biggio, Mora and Wilson who all scored 20+. Brian's Victory team is now longer a
given to make the top 8 in points, and the team is slowing fading in the D
Division race. Zeile and Eckstein lead the way with 16 each, but the Victory
need to get back to their high scoring ways or the Hummers will put the D
Division race to bed quite early.
Destroyers 3 Connection 2
Best Man Steve has a solid week scoring 138,
good enough for 3rd place in the weekly points pool. The Destroyers get the 3
wins and the bonus, and now sit 8 points back in the A Division. Next week's
match up has them playing the lowly Barracudas, while the top two in their
division battle it out. Could be time for Steve to make a serious move in their
division. Scott/Chris continue to rebound from their early season troubles, as
they do make they top 8 in the league, but get just 2 wins in their match up
with the Destroyers. The team was led by LoDuca's 20 and the defending champs
are right in the thick of the wildcard race.
Cobras 3 Contributors 2
Maze/Sturken drop off a little from their
recent hot streak, but still had enough to turn back the Contributors 3-2. The
Cobras were led by Fick's 27, as they remain 7 points back in the C Division and
just 2 points out of a wildcard spot. John/Frank stumble this week against the
Cobras, scoring just 93 points. The team got 20 from Ichiro, but have seen their
B Division lead cut to just 3. Maybe a trade will help shake the team up? I
guess Steve will be getting a call any day now. :>)
Blackjacks 3 Creeping Death 2
Bill's team recovers from back-to-back one
point losses on the first two games, to sweep the remaining three in a high
scoring affair with the Death. Green was back to his multi-HR games, as he led
the league with 38 points this week. Ventura chipped in 19, along with Drew's
18. The Blackjacks are now just 3 points behind the division leader entering
next week's crucial division games. The Death get payback for their early season
schedule breaks, as they post the 2nd high score in the league, but have just 2
wins to show for it. Piazza wakes up from a season long slump to lead the team
with 23. The Commish and Mr. Tom Brady still hold the top spot in the C
Division, but this week's division games are huge for the team.
Wiseguys 3 Vipers 2
George/Chris get a solid effort from their
team, as they get 3 wins over the Vipers, and losing total points by just 1. The
'Guys were led by Konerko's 25, as they are just 4 points out of a wildcard
spot. Rogan's Vipers have a down week, as they miss an opportunity to move up in
the B Division. The Vipers were led by Vidro's 24, as they sit 5 points back in
the division.
Clippers 3 X-Men 2
Mike/Harry keep the Clippers on the heels of
the Death, as their team gets 3 wins and a top 8. The Clippers were led by Dunn,
Fryman and Salmon who all had 20+. Next week the 'Clips face off with the
Cobras, a good opportunity to put some distance between the two teams as they
chase the Death and wildcard spots. Al/Mike get a top 8 finish, but can only
manage 2 wins. The X-Men were led by Walker's 31, but take a major hit as they
lose top 2B Spivey for a few weeks to injury. The X-Men are still just 6 points
back in the B Division, so time for Al/Mike to turn it on, as Al always seems to
do this time of year.
Week
#11 Awards:
Player of the Week:
Shawn Green, Blackjacks 38 Points
Not quite the record setting week again, but still a great week for the
Blackjacks OF as he helps the team post the high score in the league.
Pitching
Staff of the Week: St. Louis, Redbirds
32 Points
Larry/Tim get the top pitching performance of the week, but the team still could
only manage just 2 wins for the week.
Surprise of the Week: Castillo hit streak reaches 32 games.
Best Man Steve and owner of Castillo thanks the Contributors for the "light
hitting" 2B, also has pointed out a little known fantasy rule that says any team
that has a player have a hit streak of 40 games, will automatically be declared
the league champ. Nice try! :>)
Sad
story of the week:
The free fall the Stingrays are in right now. Just when things looked so good
for Merv/Mike, and they even showed signs of turning it around, the team is back
into their spiral downwards again. The division lead is shrinking, the overall
points lead is gone for now, can the scoring average be far behind? The league
is quite tight this year, despite the early season success of the Stingrays and
a few other teams.
Good luck to everyone in week #12....... I am outta here!
