Week #7
Sorry for the delay in the report this week, I am in the midst of final preparations for my wedding. This was "tie up all 847 loose ends" week.
Times are a changing in the UAL Fantasy world. The Stingrays and Death have come back to Earth as both have their second consecutive bad week. The Contributors and Blackjacks are both on a roll, shame they are in the same division. The Hummers are holding on to a small lead in the D Division, while the Victory post their 7th consecutive top 8 finish.
The one consistent this year, has been the inconsistent play of many teams. The Oysters finally stopped their every other week play, with the 2nd most points this week after a winning week last week. The X-Men have picked up where the Oysters left off. After a league record in week #5, then the league low in week #6, the X-Men bounce back with a league high 175 this week. Not to be outdone, the Redbirds follow up last week's league high with a league low 92 points this week. You see the trend?????
We are quickly approaching the half way point in the season, and with half a season yet to be played, there are a few owners that seriously have to be concerned about the state of their teams. Everyone has been good this year in regards to maintaining a full lineup. Hopefully that will continue without any problems. The Contributors and Destroyers make yet another trade, just about completing a full swap of their drafted rosters. Any other teams actually interested in a trade???? Seems like lots of trade talk out there in Fantasy Land, but no one can pull off a trade at this point. Here is a novel concept for a few teams........ make a counter offer if you don't like the offer! I have heard of several frustrated owners that can't even get a counter offer, and that is frustrating to no end. Hopefully the trade talks will result in a few trades that can help both teams.
Just a reminder that the balance of your entry fee is due June 3. You can mail me a check at 2525 E. 104th Ave #627 Thornton CO 80233
If you do not have the balance paid by June 3rd, you will not be able to make transactions. I will send out an update with who owes money.

Now, on to the results from week seven:
Destroyers 4 Redbirds 1
Steve gets a solid week from his Contribut........
ummm, Destroyers squad and keeps his team in the playoff hunt after a disastrous
start. Luis finally puts up a week like it was last year with 30, and sizzling
Dimtri Young helps out with 19 over the weekend. Steve has his team playing
well, and if the Stingrays continue to struggle, this team may be a force to
contend with by years end for the Division Title. Larry has another down week,
and when the Redbirds are bad, they are real bad. The team was led by Delgado's
16, but they could only manage 12 points for the week from the middle
infielders. Larry's team is not that far out of it yet, but the team needs more
consistent play each week, not league high one week, league low several others.
Hummers 3 Barracudas 2
Jeff/Scottx2 keep the Hummers on a win
streak as they get just enough to secure a 3 win week. Barry was huge again for
the team, as he posted yet another 30+ point week. The Hummers have a 3 point
lead in their division, but the Victory are just waiting for the team to
stumble. If the team can get any support from their other OF's, the Hummers will
be tough to beat. Bert/Pam/Ron have yet another sub 100 point week, and even in
times of inconsistent play, that is not enough to get the team on a win streak.
The 'Cudas were led by 2B Young's 14, which promptly resulted in his release by
team. Go figure? :>)
Victory 4 Stingrays 1
Brian keeps his Victory team on a roll as
they post a top 8 score for the 7th week in a row, and the team handles the
Stingrays rather easily in the 4-1 win. The Victory have the 2nd highest scoring
average in the league, as well as leading several sidepots. The team was led by
Glaus' 27 and Soriano's 25. Those two along with Cameron may be just enough to
keep the team in the top 8 for many weeks to come. Merv/Mike have settled down a
bit, as their Stingrays have their second losing week ina row. This week was a
little different story, as the team did have the 5th high score in the league.
The 'Rays look to bounce back, and it is just a matter of time with the talent
they have. The team was led by Damon and Ensberg with 19 each. The Stingrays are
still the #1 team in the league, but they need to get back on the winning track
soon or everyone will think they can beat them, even the Redbirds, Cobras and
'Cudas! Well, maybe not everyone........ :>)
Oysters 3 Connection 2
JR/Corey finally put an end to the bi-weekly
performances, as the Oysters have the 2nd high score with 160, and they get the
3-2 win over the defending champs. The Oysters were led this week by Giambi's 27
and Wilson's 22. The Oysters are now just 8 points back, and look to keep the
win streak going and put a little pressure on the once invincible Stingrays.
Scott/Chris have a solid week with a top 8 score of 127, but only have 2 wins to
show for it. The team was led by LoDuca's 22, but the outfield is struggling
badly these days. 27 points from your OF combined is not going to turn around
the season, something Scotty is all to aware of these days.
X-Men
5 Cobras 0
Al/Mike get the bounce back week they
needed, and the sweep the struggling Cobras. It was predicted that the X-Men
would bounce back with 170, and they beat the expectations. The X-Men are a fine
example of how up and down the league has been this year. They have 2 league
high weeks, and two league low weeks. This week was solid for the team, as they
were led by Williams' 30, along with Spivey's 29. The once dormant B Division is
now the top performing Division in the league. The X-Men have their work cut out
for them but as this week shows, Al/Mike's team can beat anyone on any given
week. The Maze/Sturken show continues to get bad reviews. After a decent start
to the year, the Cobras now find themselves tied with the 'Cudas for least team
points with 14. Many players struggling right now for the team, Fick score 19
this week but no one else scored more than 13. Times are tough in Cobraland,
does Maze and Sturken have the managerial skills to pull this team out of their
tailspin? We'll see......
Contributors 4 Creeping Death 1
John/Frank's team bounces back from a M-Th
loss, and sweeps the rest of the week from the Death squad and moves into 2nd
place overall in the league. Frank was quite frustrated by the opening loss, and
the Commish was feeling pretty good on Friday going into the weekend. Must have
been the good Mexican food that he had with Frank on Friday that lulled him and
his team asleep the rest of the way. The Contributors were led by Sweeney's 26,
but that was not good enough to prevent his being traded away before the week
was over. (To be fair, the trade was completed before the week was done). The
Death is struggling right now, and the Commish is looking to shake things up.
The team was led by Thomas' 23, but all players including the top scorer are
available in a deal. The Death still have a 7 point lead in the C Division, but
they have depth and it is hurting them at times.
Blackjacks 5 Wiseguys 0
Bill tries to keep pace with the rest of the
B Division, as they sweep the Wiseguys. The 'Jacks post the 4th high in the
league, and the team is really playing well these days. Things are going so well
for Bill, that starting 2B Catalanotto is a dnp all week, and sub Ortiz ends up
leading the team with 24. The Blackjacks have serious depth to the team, and
despite their recent winning ways, still have a few guys still not playing up to
par. When they do, watch out! George/Chris join the rest of the fellow C
Division teams in posting a losing week to the B Division. The team did manage
to get a top 8 finish, something no other C Division team can say. But they
still were swept, and that is a big missed opportunity. The 'Guys were led by
Rollins 26, and the team remains 9 points back of the division lead.
Vipers 4 Clippers 1
Rogan's team completes the B Division sweep
of the C Division with their 4-1 win over the banged up Clippers. The Vipers
miss out on the top 8 finish, as they had the 9th best score of the week. The
Vipers were led by Abreu's 20, and the team looks like they are getting healthy
just as the B Division race tightens up. Rogan can only hope that his once
struggling team keeps up the winning ways, as the B Division now looks like the
toughest Division in the league. Just what John wanted to hear! Mike/Harry have
lost their two top offensive players to injury, and it showed this week as they
scored just 93 points. Salmon led the way with 21, but if Manny and Nevin miss a
few months, the wins could be hard to come by for the Clippers.
Week
#7 Awards:
Player of the Week:
Bonds, Hummers 33 Points
Barry posted the top score in the league this week, despite sitting out on
Sunday. He is......simply amazing!
Pitching
Staff of the Week: Yankees, Oysters
39 Points
Two in a row for the Yankees, as they help the Oysters put a stop to the every
other week win.
Surprise of the Week: NO TRADES!
With so many teams having major ups and downs, and many teams having depth a
certain positions, it is hard to imagine that only 3 trades have been made all
year. Maybe we need to have a mid-season owners conference!
Sad
story of the week:
Clippers lose both their #1 & #2 picks overall to injury. The really bad part is
that both of them are expected to miss significant time, a month or longer! That
will kill any team.........
Good luck to everyone in week #8....... I am outta here!
