Week #10
As we have now passed the midway point in the season, the division races continue to be close. Certainly no division race is over at this point, as all the division leaders have shown great flashes, but so to have the teams chasing them. The Barracudas are the only team that is more than 11 points out of the lead in their respective division race.
The trade deadline is just a few weeks away, maybe teams will finally be able to pull off trades, although it doesn't look that promising. I know they Death are looking to trade a 3B, anybody need one?
This coming weekend is the Commish's wedding. Thanks to those who were able to make it to my bachelor party, I had a great time! I will be sending out an e-mail with instructions of who to send transactions to this weekend.
Once again I am a little pressed for time, so the report is a little on the abbreviated side......
Wiseguys 5
Oysters 0
Chris/George rebound from last week's
disaster in a big fashion, as they sweep the Oysters. A. Jones was huge with 34
to lead the 'Guys. JR/Corey see their recent run of solid weeks come to an end,
as the fall 8 points back in A Division. Alfonzo led the team with 20, and a
healthy Juan is back on track with 19.
Destroyers 5 Clippers 0
Steve bounces back in a big way, as his
Destroyers sweep the banged up Clippers. The team posted the league high score
of 161, as they were led by stud OF's Magglio and Luis with 25/24. Mike/Harry
post a sub 100 week and let a great chance to make a move on the C Division
leader slip by. The Clippers got 24 from Burrell, 12 from Salmon, 34 from Cubs
pitching, and 24 from the rest of the entire team. Ouch!
Cobras 4 Barracudas 1
The Maze/Sturken lead Cobras are fighting
their way back to respectability. The Cobras posted a whopping 95 points on M-TH
and then cruised to the 4-1 win over the hapless Barracudas. The Cobras had a
balanced attack and smacked HR's all week like the were on steroids...... ummm,
probably were! Bert/Pam/Ron continue to struggle to score points. The Barracudas
ship is just about sunk, the SOS has been sent out. Maybe a trade will save the
team? (hint hint)
Stingrays 4 Creeping Death 1
Merv/Mike get back on the winning side as
the turn back the fellow division leading Death. The 'Rays got solid weeks from
Damon and Vizquel to lead the way. The 'Rays now have a 8 point lead in the A
Division, the largest division lead in the league. The Commish's team continues
to struggle, maybe it is the lack of focus by the head man. I have been a little
preoccupied the last month!
Vipers 3 Victory 2
Rogan's team gets the win over the Victory,
catching them on a down week and taking advantage of it. The Vipers scored just
114, normally not enough against the 2nd highest scoring team in the league, but
they prevailed and sit just 5 points back in the B Division race. Giles/Abreu
had 26/23 to lead the team. Brian's team has it's 2nd non-top 8 week, and nearly
pulled off the weekly win. They lost totals by just a single point. Eckstein had
23, Hildalgo 21, but only one other player had more than 7 for the week.
X-Men 3 Connection 2
In strange match up, the X-Men score 120 for
the week, while the Connection score 135. But the X-Men walk away with the 3-2
win. This happened because the X-Men were cruising along after a weekday win,
and a Friday 2 point win, and then lost Saturday 38 to -2! Al/Mike will take it
as they try and stay within striking distance of the division lead. The X-Men
got 25 from red-hot Lee to lead the way. Scott/Chris have the 4th high total in
the league, but can only manage the 2 wins. Pujols had a nice 31 points, putting
some distance in the 3B sidepot race between him and the next closest player.
Contributors 3 Redbirds 2
John/Frank pull out the 3 win week with a 1
point victory on Sunday over the Redbirds. Their team was led by Koskie/Lofton
who had 21 each. The Contributors have battled through some rough spots to hold
a 5 point lead in the B Division. Larry/Tim's team does put the points up this
week, getting the 8th spot in the the bonus win. The 'Birds though can only get
the 2 wins as they are still trying to climb out of the D Division cellar.
Delgado/Finley had 21/23 to lead the team.
Hummers 4 Blackjacks 1
Jeff/Scottx2 almost get the sweep, dropping
only the Sat game 37-33. The Blackjacks had been on a roll, so the Hummers
needed this week as they open a 7 point lead in the D Division. The Hummers were
lead by you know who with 30. Bill's team has an off week as their recent run
comes to a grinding halt. Still the Blackjacks are just 5 points back in the C
Division. Sidepot stud Green led the team with 18.
Week
#10 Awards:
Player of the Week:
A. Jones, Wiseguys 34 Points
Jones helps the Wiseguys recover from the previous week's horrible week as they
sweep the Oysters.
Pitching
Staff of the Week: Cubs, Clippers
34 Points
The top pitching performance was of little help to the 'Clips as they still got
swept by the Destroyers.
Surprise of the Week: The Commish is getting married!
After 34 years of bachelorhood, the time has come to make the big plunge into
wedded bliss this Saturday.
Sad
story of the week:
The Barracudas continue to post shocking numbers, as they got 25 points from
their catcher, and no other offensive player scores double digits. Not good!
Good luck to everyone in week #11....... I am outta here!
