Week #9

Last week was a record high scoring week, this week we had record setting low scoring week from one team. The Wiseguys now hold the distinction of having the lowest weekly total in quite some time as they posted just 61 points for the entire week. While the Wiseguys have struggled at times so far this year, they had been one of the more consistent teams scoring, but this week they really bottomed out.

The division leaders continue to struggle as just the Stingrays were able to post a winning week. This despite the 'Rays scoring troubles continuing as they watch their weekly scoring average continue to plummet. The Contributors, Creeping Death and Hummers let their division rivals get the better of them, tightening the division races up even more.

The Oysters are hot on the trail of the Stingrays as the put a stop to the Destroyers recent winning ways. The X-Men continue their inconsistent ways as they were almost swept by the resurgent Vipers. The Blackjacks keep winning but again fail to crack the top 8, and the Contributors were on the losing end of that key B Division matchup.

The Cobras finally get on track as they nearly sweep the C Division leading Creeping Death team. The Cobras followed up last week's 23 point M-Th game with 77 this week. The sleeping giant has awaken! The Clippers continue to play well despite the injuries, and they did score enough points on M-Th ALONE to beat the Wiseguys. The Redbirds had one of their weeks where they look to be a solid team as they beat the D Division leading Hummers on a total points tiebreaker. The defending champs Connection continue to recover from their early season troubles as they keep the win streak alive over the always tough Victory.

Just a few weeks ago the division leaders all looked prime to pull away from the pack, but now no team has more than a 4 point lead in any division race. Yes, thins have tightened up drastically in recent week! Still awful quiet on the trade front, maybe the trade deadline approaching will spurn a few more blockbuster trades as we are now entering the 2nd half of the regular season.

Stop by the league message board, it can be fun! :-)

Due to time constraints, mainly I HAVE NONE with all the last minute wedding plans, this weeks game summaries will be a little shorter. I'll be back to my old form before long!:

Oysters 4    Destroyers 1
JR/Corey's Oysters now have the division lead within their grasp as they bounce back from a M-Th loss to sweep the weekend from division rival the Destroyers. Wilson'31 and red-hot Giambi's 28 lead the way. Steve sees his recent run of good weeks come to end, as the Oysters were to much over the weekend. Lowell's 22 and Santiago's 21 led the way for the team.

Stingrays 3    Barracudas 2
Merv/Mike get back on the winning side as they beat the Barracudas by 7 points in totals. All is still not well with the Stingrays, as their league leading scoring average continues to drop, but they will take the wins any way they can get them! Bert/Pam/Ron's team finally breaks the 100 point mark, but it still wasn't enough to put together a winning week. Kent led the team with 20, the only player in the match up to score more than 20 points.

Vipers 4    X-Men 1
Rogan's team post the 3rd high in the league as they get 4 wins to move within 4 points of the B Division lead. Abreu finally heats up with 32, Helton is his usual with 28 and Giles stays hot with 23. Al/Mike continue their inconsistent play, but remain just 6 points back in the division. Bernie's 18 led the team, but Walker continues to struggle (2 more DNP's) and the team misses a opportunity to really make the B Division race tight.

Blackjacks 3    Contributors 2
Bill's team gets the total points win over the division leading Contributors to beat them 3-2. Good news for the 'Jacks is they keep winning, but bad news is they can't crack the top 8 again. Batista leads the team with 22, but Green follows up his 66 point week with just 8. John/Frank's team has settled down after an impressive run in recent weeks, and their division lead is now down to 2 points. Ichiro leads the team with 23, but 4 points combined from their middle infield was their downfall this week.

Cobras 4    Creeping Death 1
Maze/Sturken's team is finally playing up to their coaches expectations as they nearly sweep the C Division leading Death. Thome's 36, $-Rod's 26 and Berkman's 25 lead the Cobras to the league high score of 147. The Commish and Mr. Tom Brady's team continues to struggle and their division lead is slowly wilting away. Rolen finally has a decent week with 20, but the Death needs to get back on track soon.

Clippers 5    Wiseguys 0
Mike/Harry get 65 from their Clippers on the M-Th games, and that was enough to win the week over the struggling Wiseguys who scored a season low 61 for the week. Death reject Salmon leads the team with 38, as Salmon's release is probably the biggest coaching blunder this year. Mike/Harry will take whatever they can get as their banged up team is now just 3 points back. George/Chris have a scary weekend as their team scores 15-4-7. Jones scores 19, and Castilla 10, but no other player scored double digits for the week.

Redbirds 3    Hummers 2
Larry/Tim's team has a good week as they score 133, but needed the home field advantage to win the tiebreaker on total points and get the decisive win over the D Division leading Hummers. Delgado's 27 leads the team. Jeff/Scottx2's team gets a top 8 finish but losing on the tiebreaker hurt. The Hummers have the biggest division lead in the league, but it is just 4 points. Anderson and Sexson both had 25 to lead the team.

Connection 3    Victory 2
Scott/Chris keep the defending champs rolling as they score 140 to get 3 wins and a top 8 finish. The team was led by Nomar's 33 and the team is now just 6 points back in the division. Brian's team continues to get top 8 finishes, but could only get 2 wins as seems to be the case in recent weeks. The Victory were led by Hildalgo's 31 and Tejada's 22.

Week #9 Awards:

Player of the Week:    Salmon, Clippers    38 Points
The Clippers use this waiver wire acquisition to hold the team together while Manny recovers from injury.

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Atlanta, Hummers    33 Points
The Brave's staff continues to produce for the D Division leading Hummers.

Surprise of the Week:    LEAGUE PARITY!
As we have reached the mid point to the regular season, all the early season leaders have come back to the back and the division races are all close now, with no team having more than a 4 point lead. Gonna be a fun finish!

Sad story of the week:
Wiseguys score 61 for the week. That is the season low and less than what two teams scored in one game.

Good luck to everyone in week #10....... I am outta here!
