Week #6

Maybe we shouldn't be storing the UAL Fantasy baseballs in the Coors Field humidor! The scoring was WAAAAYYYYYYYY down in week #6. The X-Men went from a league high 185 in week 5, to just 78 points in week 6. The two leading teams in the league both slumped off significantly. Four teams didn't even break the 90 point barrier for the week. On a positive note, the Redbirds picked the right week to break out of their season long slump as they led the league with 143 points.

The Stingrays continue top lead the league in points, despite their first losing week of the year. The Creeping Death team also had their first losing week of the year, and still trail the Stingrays by 3 points overall. The Contributors and Hummers remain two of the hottest teams in the league, as they both now have nice leads in their division. The Cobras, Barracudas and defending champs Connection continue to struggle.

The score reporting continues to be solid (note to Mike Lovell, call in your scores BEFORE the Av's game, not AFTER!), thanks to everyone for their help with that.

Now, on to the results from week six:

Oysters 4    Barracudas 1
JR/Corey continue their amazing trend of bi-weekly performances, as this was an even numbered week and they get 4 wins over the struggling Barracudas. Juan led the Oysters this week with 31, although JR/Corey would like that to be Juan G. not Juan E. in the future. Giambi is heating up finally, and the Oysters need to put a stop to the every-other-week performances soon, as this trend will not help the team catch up with the Stingrays. Bert/Pam/Ron continue to find ways to not win, this week was really bad as the team scored just 86 points. The 'Cudas were led by Jeter's 24, but the team now has a league low 12 team points. Hey, that makes the 'Cudas first on the priority list! So they have that going for them.

Destroyers 3    Stingrays 2
Steve continues the path towards respectability as his Destroyers team beats the previously seemingly invincible Stingrays. The only disappointment for Steve was that they ended up in a tie 28-28 on Sunday, but lost on the home field advantage. The Stingrays are good, but a little luck never hurts! The Destroyers were led by Gibbons' 21 and Magglio's 18. Merv/Mike suffer their first losing week of the year, but the Stingrays still lead the league overall. The team struggled up and down the lineup, as Bagwell's 15 led the team. Will the Stingrays bounce back, or has the team settled down after a fabulous start? Bet on the bounce back!

Contributors 4    Vipers 1
Frank "The Owner Formally Known As John McSwain" Uhl's team continues it's hot streak with another solid week with 4 wins as the Contributors stretch their B Division lead to 7 points. The team was led by Ichiro's big 34 point week, and also had help from Lofton with 22. Frank (TOFKAJM) has the Commish's Death Squad on the schedule in week 7, so that should be a good indicator of how hot the team is. Rogan's Vipers have a solid scoring week relative to the rest of the league (finished 7th), but could only get a 37-28 win on Friday against the Contributors. The Vipers were led by Helton's 34. The Vipers have lots of ground to make up in the B Division, and as long as Helton continues to perform as expected, you can't count them out.

Blackjacks 5    X-Men 0
Bill's team is finally rounding into shape, as was predicted last week on this report, as the Blackjacks pull off the clean sweep of the X-Men and move into second place in the B Division. The early season struggles for Mr. Phillips are now a distant memory, as the team had the 2nd high score in the league with 135. Vladi led the way with 19 as he now sits a top all OF's in the sidepot race. Al/Mike suffer a horrific drop in points, going from 185 last week to 78 this week. The X-Men scored just 34 on the M-TH games, which was a sure sign of things to come over the weekend. Bernie had 20 but 1B was a problem as Segui/Casey combined for -2 for the week. If the X-Men follow the Oysters game plan, 170+ could be a nice rebound week for Al/Mike.

Wiseguys 4    Cobras 1
George/Chris get a solid week from their team, as they get a much needed 4 win week along with a top 8 finish. The Wiseguys were led by A. Jones' 29 and the team now has 4th highest scoring average in the league. George/Chris are still 9 points out of the lead in the C Division, but healthy weeks like this will certainly help the team down the road. Maze/Sturken are watching the season fade away and we are not even out of May yet! The Cobras post an impressive 55 points on Saturday, but that was the only win for the week. $-Rod continues to shine as expected, as he leads the team again with 25. Will Maze work his magic and get the Cobras back into contention? Will Sturken take control away from Maze and show him how it is done? The Cobra fan's patience is starting to wear thin, and Buddy Bell was last seen buying a house in Cobraville. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.......

Clippers 3    Creeping Death 2
Mike/Harry get a 103 point week from their Clippers, which was good enough for a 3-2 win over the Commish's Death Squad. The Clippers got a 14 point game from Posada on Sunday to help clinch the 3rd win of the week. The strange part was the team scored a total of 12 on Sunday (nice help by the rest of the team!), but since the Death scored (-2) as a team, Posada was just what Mike/Harry needed to get the decisive win. The Clippers are 7 points back in the C Division, and have to look at this week as a lost opportunity to make up ground, as the team scored just 32 points combined over the weekend. The Commish and Mr. Tom Brady suffer their first losing week of the year. The Creeping Death team had newly acquired Austin "Powers" Kearns lead the way with 18, but the the rest of the team was not very groovy. A lost opportunity for the Death to make up ground on the Stingrays, the team needs to bounce back in week #7 against the red-hot Contributors team.

Redbirds 3    Victory 2
Larry/Tim get the top scoring week from their Redbirds team, but as their luck would have it can only get 3 wins. Larry/Tim will take what they can get, as any sign of the Redbirds getting back to respectability is a good sign after the last few weeks the team had. The Redbirds were led by Delgado's 33 points. Brian's Victory team continues to score points, as they are now the lone team in the league to have a top 8 finish all 6 weeks of the season. Bad news for Brian is that despite the 2nd best scoring average in the league, the Victory are just 13-17 overall. Boy, teams really play their best against the Victory! (take that as a compliment Brian). The Victory were led by Glaus' 19 and Cameron's 17.

Hummers 4    Connection 1
Jeff/Scottx2 continue to get solid performances from their Hummers, as the team turns back the defending champ Connection rather easily. After a 45-33 loss M-Th, the Hummers looked to be heading for a bad week, but the team responds with games of 34-26-31 to get the weekend sweep. The Hummers were led by Anderson's 23 and Sexson's 22. The Hummers have a 5 point lead in the D Division, but no time to let up as the rest of the Division (less the Connection) also seem to have the potential to overtake them if the Hummers stumble at all. Scott/Chris's Connection team continue to have bad weeks. This week it was a 1 point game on Saturday that was the telling stat for the team. The Connection were led by Klesko's 15, but 14 points for the week from their starting OF's is not going to win many games. Still lots of games to be played, but you have to really question whether the Connection will have a chance to defend their title on the field come playoff time.

Week #6 Awards:

Player of the Week:    Helton, Vipers & Ichiro, Contributors    34 Points
These two went head-to-head this week, and Frank's Contributors had much more support as they won 4-1. Maybe Frank's assistant John (ha!) had a little to do with the Ichiro selection.

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Yankees, Oysters     30 Points
Consistent week for JR/Corey's pitching staff as the Yank's went 8-8-7-7 for the week helping the Oysters to a 4 win week. Can they do it two weeks in a row is the big question!

Surprise of the Week:    Defending Champs Connection    10-20 record
How the mighty have fallen! Will Scott & Chris find the way to get the ship headed in the right direction? Heck, will the Connection ship be sunk by the end of May?????

Sad story of the week:
X-Men/Creeping Death/Barracudas/Connection    sub 90 point weeks
Bring back the juiced ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or let Albert Belle take over production of baseball bats for all teams! :>)

Good luck to everyone in week #7....... I am outta here!
