Week #16

The Snyder/Bevans Marriage World Tour 2002 is finally over!!!!!!

Yes, believe it or not, my summer long marriage operation, as we have referred to it, is finally complete. It has been a long and sometimes exhausting 6 weeks. Now it is time for the Commish to refocus on the final weeks of the regular season, and pray that the idiot baseball players finish out the next month so we don't have a freaking strike to complicate matters.

Thanks again for everyone's cooperation during the last month, it certainly is very appreciated.

With just two weeks left in the regular season, here is how things are shaping up in each division:

The Oysters have a 4 point lead in the A Division, and can clinch a division title as soon as this coming week. The Stingrays and Destroyers are 4/5 points back respectively, and hold the two wild card spots in the A/B conference. The Barracudas have been officially eliminated from the playoffs.

The Blackjacks and X-Men are tied with 50 points in the B Division, with the Vipers just a point back at 49. This division continues to have the closest playoff race in the league. The once top B Division team Contributors continue to free fall, as their playoff aspirations are quickly diminishing. The sad part is, as competitive as this race is, only one team may actually get into the playoffs.

The Creeping Death team continues to lead the C Division, although this past week they had a bad week. The Clippers and Cobras are both 5 points back, and both missed a solid chance to make up ground on the Death. Those two teams are also in a battle for a wildcard spot. The Wiseguys need some serious help to make the playoffs.

The Hummers have a slim 1 point lead over the Connection in the D Division. Both teams are almost assured a playoff spot, but the division title is what both are after. The once high scoring Victory are also in a late season free fall, and will need some help to get back into the playoff picture. The Redbirds need a miracle to make the playoffs.

Now we'll take a look at week #16 results:

Stingrays 3    Redbirds 2
Merv/Mike get 3 wins and a top 8 finish, to keep them within striking distance of the Oysters. The 'Rays have been on a season long roller coaster ride, and they need a strong finish to end the mid-season frustration they have encountered. Merv/Mike got a big week from Arizona pitching with 38, and Bags led the offense with 21. Larry/Tim have a solid week, with a top 8 finish, but still can only manage 2 wins. Renteria led the team with 24.

Oysters 3    Hummers 2
In a battle of two division leaders, JR/Corey get the total points win by 2 points over the Hummers. The Oysters continue to lead the league in team points with 57, and look to wrap up the division crown this week. The team was led by Giambi's 28 points. Jeff/Scottx2 fail to make the top 8, and let the Connection inch even closer. The Hummers are in a battle for the division crown, and they are desperately holding on to a lead they have held for quite some time. The Hummers were led this week by Sexson's huge 37 point week.

Destroyers 5    Victory 0
Steve gets another solid week from his team, as the Destroyers take the top scoring honors this week with 166. The Destroyers handed the Victory a humbling defeat, scoring just 66 M-TH, compared to the Victory's 76 for the entire week! Steve's team got a monster week from his OF's, as Magglio had 36, Gonzo had 35 and Trot had 26. Brian's team continues to struggle to score points, and this week was rock bottom for the team. Time is running out for Brian to turn it around, and the Victory need to regain their early season form in a hurry or they will be on the outside looking in come playoff time. The was "led" by Eckstein's 14...... enough said.

Connection 4    Barracudas 1
Scott/Chris continue their playoff charge as they get 4 wins and a top 8 finish. The defending champs are now just a single point back in the D Division, and look to continue their run right into the playoffs. The Connection were led by Nomar's big 35 points week, and also got 25 from LoDuca. Bert/Pam/Ron continue to go through the motions, as the 'Cudas playoff hopes are no more. Beltre led the team with 28, but a little to late to help the 'Cudas disappointing season.

Cobras 3    Blackjacks 2
In a high scoring affair, Maze/Sturken's Cobras get 3 wins and a top 8 finish to keep their playoff hopes strong. The Cobra's continue to hold the lead in the weekly sidepot race, and could be a real force come playoff time. $-Rod led the team with 26, and they also got 26 from Fick. Bill's Blackjacks posted the 3rd high score in the league, but could only get 2 wins against the 2nd high score in the league. Houston pitching was huge with 42 this week, and Ventura chipped in 31 to help the cause. The Blackjacks are in a tight race, and need a few more high scoring weeks like this to help them in the close B Division race.

Vipers 4    Creeping Death 1
In a low scoring affair between two teams that had been scoring well, Rogan's Vipers win a 108-108 total points battle over the Death. Rogan's team is 1 point back in their division, and this week could be the break they needed. The Vipers got 24 from Helton to pace the team. The Commish was on vacation, and apparently so was his team. Mr. Tom Brady was talking trash after their M-Th win, and then watched the team fold over the weekend. The Death were led by Hunter's 31, but can't afford another week like this as they try to hold onto the C Division lead.

X-Men 3    Wiseguys 2
Al/Mike's X-Men get 3 wins and a top 8 finish to pull even with the Blackjacks in the B Division race. The X-Men were led by Anaheim's 35, and Bernie's 21. The Wiseguys crack the top 8, but can only get the 2 wins. George/Chris are also running out of time, and need 2 huge weeks to keep their minimal playoff chances alive. The 'Guys got 26 from Edmonds to led the team.

Contributors 3    Clippers 2
John/Frank get 3 wins, but fail to crack the top 8 as their playoff hopes are quickly fading. The Contributors got 26 from Higgy, but need to turn it up a few notches the final 2 weeks to get into the playoffs. Mike/Harry's Clippers let a golden opportunity slip away as they can only manage 2 wins. While the Death only won 1, the Clippers picked the wrong week to score just 100 points as the 'Clips remain in a heated battle for a wildcard spot with the Cobras. The Clippers were led by Manny's 21.

Week #16 Awards:

Player of the Week:    Richie Sexson, Hummers    37 Points
Big week for the Brewers 1B, but the Hummers could only get 2 wins as they faced off with the league leading Oysters.

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Houston, Blackjacks    42 Points
An impressive week for the Astros pitching staff as the help the Blackjacks to the 3rd high score in the league.

Surprise of the Week:    Things have been going badly for Brian's Victory in recent weeks, but getting swept by the Destroyers and scoring just  76 points, this from the team that led the league in scoring average for months, is about as far as a team can fall.

Sad story of the week:
The players continue to talk of having a strike. The Commish will have a real hard time accepting the players claims that this is "for the benefit of players long term". I know my season tickets will be on the market if these overpaid players walk away from the remainder of the season.

Good luck to everyone in week #17, as we enter the final stretch of the regular season. I am outta here!
