THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR              Edition 1.11

Round two of the playoffs provided excellent action and scoring as both advancing teams topped the century mark. We are now all set for the Championship game as the Stingrays visit The Contributors to decide the 2004 Championship crown. There are a lot of bye weeks, so roster management will play a big part. No matter who wins, getting to the Championship game is something to be proud of. This will be the second year in a row the Rays are on the big stage; last year they lost to a juggernaut of a team, The Pride. I don’t recall the Contributors getting to the dance, so this may be their year. Good luck to both teams playing in the big game, and congratulations. Here is a recap of the playoff and Scrub bowl action.

Contributors @ Elephants ; 101 –58 Contributors

The Contributors keep up their solid and consistent play to advance to the Championship Contest. They have posted solid scores all year and have earned the right to play for the Title. They got great play from Henry, who turned out to be a fantasy all-star, Savoy – Money in the Bank on the explosive Utah squad, Pearman- Who has taken the thunder from Lundy, and the Florida State Defense had another solid game. The Contributors have one more game to put it all together; This team has had great chemistry all year and may have enough to pop the Champagne. The Elephants spent all that was in the Chamber last week to advance to the second round. The Pach squad just could not get anything going, and could not match the Contributor firepower. The Elephants had a season they can be proud of, but it seemed to sour a bit when Orton hurt his hip the second half of the season. They were still able to rally and have an inspired performance in round one of the playoffs. The Pachyderms take 4th Place in the league, good job.

Stingrays @ Swinging Sirloins ; 122 – 81 Rays

Last week the Competitor stated that the Rays always seem to find a way to win; This week proved it. Despite playing without their first and second round picks of the Draft, the Stingers stung the Swingers to advance to the Championship game for the second year in a row. In a fine bit of coaching, the Rays benched McCarthur and inserted Addai into the line-up. The Rays drafted LSU RB Vincent as their no 1 pick, and was set back when he fell off the radar this year. The Rays could see Addai gaining momentum in the crowded backfield and picked him up as a free agent.  Addai had a huge day, as did Leak, Hill, Warren, and the LSU defense. The Rays put it all together to defeat a very good Sirloin team. The Swingers seemed destined to win the Championship as they dominated the first half of the season.  Things began to slow down when Michigan found the Legs of a freshman to the detriment of Braylon, and Virginia began to Platoon Lundy. Benson had another great performance, and the walking wounded Purify gave a valiant effort. Great first year in the league Sirloins!, you had an extremely good season to take 3rd place.

THE SCRUB BOWL, ROUND TWO ; LIGHTNING 144 Points

What an explosion by The Lightning! They destroy the competition to win round two of the Scrub Bowl. They have been on a tear, and as stated in previous editions could be marching to the Championship if not for a dismal start to the season. Thomas had another incredible day. The rest of the Lightning squad responded as well with White back to Heisman form, and a great game from free agent pick-up WR Solomon. It is true that Thomas is aided by dismal defensive play in the Sunbelt Conference, but take out his performance and the Lightning still shined. Great Game!!! The Lightning really turned their season around and should be strong next year with a year of college experience to build upon.

SCRUB BOWL II ; TITANS 122 POINTS

The Titans get the thrill of Victory along with the Pain of what-if. They explode for 122 Points, which would have been enough to advance to The Big Game. Problem is, They got whacked by a Hot Pach team in Round one. If Georgia played Auburn last week, the Titans win. If Jarrett scored his 23 last week instead of this week, the Titans Win. Match-ups are all important in fantasy ball. This happens to all Fantasy Coaches, Each one has a million what-ifs. As the Writer and Editor of the Competitor, the Owner and Coach of The Titans can take some license and lament…If only to exorcise Demons!!! As an interesting side note, Last week the Competitor editor took a shot at the Georgia Bulldogs, as retaliation they refused to play for the Titans as the Georgia Defense and Kicker posted a combined minus one! The Maulers had a solid game as the Utah QB went off!!! As Usual. Davis had a good game as well. Coach Mike did not take the Sidebet offered as he felt he was getting hustled by his younger Bro. There is no truth to the rumor that the fix was in. Next week the rest of the Playoff losers battle in Scrub Bowl II, should be an interesting game…there is still some Pride and some cash on the Line.

One more week and 2004 is history. The final week should be interesting as there are many teams on byes. Good Luck to both Championship Contenders. Good Luck to all the Scrub Bowlers. Enjoy the last week! I know I will miss it when it’s over…I always do.

I Love this game! (May the Bulldogs choke on a bad Milkbone!, I will never draft their D again!)
