THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR                  Edition 1.6

Week six saw some difficult college match-ups, and overall scoring was down for the league. For the first time, a team failed to score over 100. To demonstrate the weak scoring, a team scoring 55 was able to capture a top-six bonus point. The division races have not been decided, and many teams have a small ray of hope to make the post season. With nine points up for grabs over the final three games, the season can still be a success for many. Here is a recap of week six division play.

Cossacks Vs. Contributors ; 55- 49 Contributors.

A hard fought, scratch and claw low scoring contest decided by six points. The Cossacks would have felt better if they got dusted by 50.  A total of two points scored by the Cossack Kicker and Def sealed yet another agonizing loss for the Sacks. The Cossacks have talent on the squad but cannot seem to consistently produce. This season has the Cossack second-guessing himself. The Contributors escape with a win and a bonus point despite the subpar game. Strong games from the Cal QB, Freshman Superman Peterson, and Ellerson did enough to escape with the win and a huge boost in the A division race.

Lightning Vs. Pride;  81- 46 Lightning

Last weeks edition of the Competitor predicted the Lightning would win a few games down the stretch, and they did just that. Despite getting a minus 2 from their Heisman QB, they were able to post an 81 with great play from their defense, the North Texas RB Thomas, and Kicker Nugent. Thomas is proving to be a great pick-up as he is producing in place of injured starter Cobbs. The Cossacks have to be dismayed they did not pick him up when Cobbs went down. The Pride had a forgettable day as they could not get anything going. The North Texas Free Agent QB and Receiver were busts in this contest, and were subsequently released from the team this week. The Pride Coaches are always looking to improve, and will find a way to win down the stretch.

Redhawks Vs. Titans ; 54- 46 Titans

In another low scoring contest for the week, the Titans did enough to get the win and increase their lead by 3 Games in the B division. The division championship is within reach, but they cannot stumble the rest of the way or the door will remain open.  Incredibly, the Titans missed the bonus point by one as a result of a missed field goal. The Titans are a different team without DeAngelo Williams, but get the RB back this week. Despite the off game, the Titans improve to 5-1. The Hawks started the wrong defense as they stayed away from Oklahoma against Texas. No one could have prediticted a shutout in the Red River Shootout. The Hawks got a strong Game from McClendon, but like the Titans they misfired at the other positions in a game they could have won.

DragonFarts Vs. Death ;  79- 65 Death

The Death rebound from last week’s tough loss with a strong showing. They got production at all positions except for the receiver slot held by the player involved in the trade with the Cossacks. Lyman could not replicate the breakthrough performance of week five and posted a zero. What is worse he suffered a season and college career ending injury. Tough break for the kid who was finally getting a chance to shine. The Death get some positive news with the emergence of the freshman Michigan RB Hart. The Death have an abundance of talent on the squad, they just need better luck. The Farts endure another tough loss, but get a bonus point for their efforts. A very strong outing by the Auburn QB helped them remain competitive to the end. Moore continues to disappoint; He had an incredible year last year, but thus far he is struggling to score. Despite the loss the Dragonfarts are not eliminated from contention in the B division, but there is little room for error.

Swinging Sirloins Vs. The Elephants ; 83- 38 Elephants

The undefeated season comes to an end as the Sirloins experience firsthand the ups and downs of college fantasy football. They drop to  5-1 and hang on to the division lead. The Sirloins must rebound right away, because the teams behind them are making noise and can snatch the Division Title from them if they falter. The only player that played like a champion was Edwards. He continues to destroy the competition with his play. Lundy was punished for fumbling the ball and was reduced to a non factor. The Sirloins still have a very good team and can still make a run at the Championship. The Elephants keep playing strong and may yet take the division title and the League Championship. The Purdue hook-up cooled a bit, but still posted solid numbers. Washington had a great game to seal the win. The C division will be a great race over the last three games. The Elephants are a win away from the Sirloins, and the Maulers are tearing up their competition as well. There is no room for a let down, as their still remains a Division game left  in week nine.

Maulers Vs. StingRays ; 93-48 Maulers

The Maulers survived their slow start at the beginning of the season and are peaking at the right time. They are now a win and a bonus point away from the division leader, and seem to be getting stronger. They had solid scoring from top to bottom to post a league leading 93 for the week. Davis continues to run hard, and Gibson is finally producing the numbers that were always forecasted. The Rays faltered at several positions, but are encouraged with the play of Daniels back from injury. McArthur is fitting in well after being traded from the Lightning. He may post the numbers that were expected of him the rest of the year. He is healing from nagging injuries, and with the loss of Lyman will continue to get many touches. The Rays have the potential to score points, and can still make the post season if they put it all together.

With only three games left, teams must begin to play their best ball and peak into the playoffs. Some teams may be eliminated in week seven, and some may continue to move in the direction of a Championship. It is a crucial week and should provide plenty of scoring opportunities. It should be interesting!!!

I Love this game!                                                            Jeff Myers
