THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR                        Edition 1.3

Week three did not disappoint as there were several close contests. Every team in the league has now tasted victory at least once. Two teams remain undefeated, two teams have one loss, and eight have records of 1-2. The Sirloins continue to Sizzle with an explosive 138. Barring let down or injury, they should be a favorite in the post season.  Here is a recap of week three division play.

Pride @ Cossacks ; 104 – 97 Pride

The defending champs continue the winning tradition with a strong score of 104. Barber led the way tearing up the Rams with 27. The Pride QB, Kicker, and Defense sealed the win. The Cossacks are reeling from the loss of #1 pick Cobb to injury, but showed pride of their own by posting a score of 97. In the end they were let down by their QB who could not get anything going against the Buckeyes. A valiant effort by Nash and Hagen was not enough as they went down to defeat by 7 points. The Pride improve to 2-1 while the Sacks drop to 1-2.

Lightning @ Contributors ; 93-58 Contributors

The Contributors get the win and their third top six finish with huge days from unlikely sources. The Colorado QB was picked up when the Cal Qb could not go because of Hurricane Ivan. He posted a 30 to lead the way. Freshman phenom Peterson of Oklahoma showed what all the hype is about with impressive scoring runs. The Contributors posted a 93 despite getting two zeros. They lead the A Division by a point over the Pride. The Lightning are still trying to find their way and failed to break 60.   A strong effort by The Ohio State kicker led the way, 23 from a kicker is unheard of. With the pick-up of Cobbs replacement, they should add some punch to the line-up. There is talk Cobb may Redshirt if he does not come back from injury soon. This would be a huge boon to the Lightning’s young franchise. Somewhere I can hear Maze moaning…...

Death @ Redhawks ; 89- 77 Hawks

The Hawks get their first win with a huge day from Sproles. The RB returned to form and scored 23 for the Birds. Strong play from the U.S.C QB and Moss sealed the win. The Death got the expected contribution from the Missouri QB with a solid 27, but the rest of the position players could not break through. Especially frustrating for the Death was the play of Moss. The Hawks Miami RB out played Gore, also a Miami RB. Gore saw limited action in the blow out, and the Death lost a close one. Oh the Agony of Running back by committee.

Dragonfarts @ Titans ; 70 – 47 Titans

The Titans remain undefeated despite the weak play of several position players. RB Williams continued to lead the way with 18, and the Georgia Defense and Miami Kicker kicked in with 31. Maroney got shortchanged in the Minnesota Tag Team, but still gained over 100 yards. The Titans look forward to getting Arrington back in a few weeks. The Titans did just enough to win this week. The Dfarts struggled to get anything going, but have to be relieved to have Harris in the Line-up. Despite reports of a Hamstring injury, the West Virginia RB carried often and looked like the injury will not be a factor. The Dragonfarts look to get back to week one form. So far Moore has been a disappointment, but if he produces as advertised they will make a strong run the rest of the season.

Stingrays @ Swinging Sirloins ; 138 – 55 Loins

The Sirloins are for Real!  They lead the week with an impressive 138 to remain perfect. The fact they did this with Benson on an off-week is truly scary. Lundy looks to be the League fantasy MVP with another three TD game…That is nine in three weeks. Edwards and Purify had very strong games to overwhelm the Stingrays. The Rays were frustrated all day with the platooning of Vincent and a first half injury to RB Daniels. RB Bush had another huge day and is garnering Heisman talk. The Rays were looking to next week by halftime in this game, and look to rebound as they fall to 1-2.

Maulers @ Elephants ; 82-79 Maulers

The Maulers break through with their first win with a phenomenal performance from the Miami D. A solid game from the Utah QB and Minnesota Kicker proved enough to get the win and a top six finish. The Mauler position players are still struggling, but there is hope that #1 Pick Davis will be back in a couple games. If the Maulers can get production from the position players, Davis and the Miami Defense will be a force in the stretch run. The Elephants suffer through another tough loss by losing by 3 points. The Pachs Purdue Hook-up were on a Bye week, and they could not make up for the lost production. Reyes produced, finally, but the play of RB Jones of Oklahoma was a let down. His 2 points really hurt, as did the play of the Georgia QB. The Elephants are still a force and will contend the rest of the year. They hope the tough losses are behind them.

Week four should be a challenge to most teams because of the amount of bye weeks involved. There will be one team undefeated as the two 3-0 teams meet. As we near the half way point of the season,  each game is critical. Teams cannot afford to fall to 1-3. It should be an interesting week!

I Love This Game!
