Week #11
With just 3 weeks to play in the regular season, week 11 was expected to be a week teams started clinching playoff spots. It was not to be, as upsets were the story in week week 11. The Machine and Cows upset the top 2 A Division teams, while the Death handed the Maulers their second straight loss. This leaves a wide open race in the A/B Conference, with 6 teams now in a battle for the 4 playoff spots. Meanwhile the C/D Conference didn't have much in the way of major upsets, but 7 of the 8 teams are still in the playoff hunt. All four division winners can clinch a division title with a win in week 12, while the wildcard spots are truly up for grabs.
Here is a look at the week 11 action:
Machine 75
Plague 19
Frank/Jim's Machine finally gets on track
with a solid scoring week as they hand the Plague an devastating defeat. It took
a Marvin Harrison injury to finally make the Colts turn to RB James, who
responded with his best effort of the year with 28. The scary part is Indy still
threw the ball, so it could have been an even better day had they stuck with the
efficient running game. The Machine have been eliminated from the playoffs, but
with crucial games for their opponents the next few weeks, they do have some
bragging rights to play for. Bill/John certainly did not expect such a dismal
effort from their team, as they some how managed to go from 111 points last
week, to just 19 this week. No time to dwell on the bad week, as the Plague now
sit in 4th place in the hunt for 2 wildcard spots.
Cows 62 Doggy
Style 26
Tom's Cows join the Machine as the surprise
of the week as they easily defeat the Doggy Style. Rudi Johnson FINALLY finds
his way into the Cows starting lineup, and he has another solid day. Tom
promptly told Keyshawn to take the rest of the year off after the game, another
chapter in the strange Cow season. Jeff/Scott's Doggy Style could have clinched
the division with a win, but a bunch of zeros along with a bad week from
normally solid McNair leave the Style with their worst effort of the year. A win
in either of the last two weeks and the A Division title belongs to the Doggy
Style.
Death 75
Maulers 58
The Commish's Death hand the Maulers their
second consecutive loss as the B Division race tightens up even more. A 3 TD day
from RB Westbrook was the performance the Commish needed to knock off the top
team in the league. The Death need a few more wins to secure a wildcard spot, as
the tie breakers are not in favor of the Death. Merv/Mike get another solid day
from Holt and Green, but didn't have enough help to get a win. Thanks to 10 top
8 finishes in 11 weeks, the Maulers still control their own destiny. Another
loss though, and things really get interesting in the B Division.
Cossacks 72
Manatees 46
Maze/Mac get the crucial win as their
Cossacks post a solid win over the Manatees. McAllister was huge with 28 to lead
the team, along with a big day from Denver Def with 25 as the Cossacks move into
the top wildcard spot, just 4 back from the Maulers division lead. Ratt gets a
mediocre week from Priest, along with little production from the WR's as they
drop a game that could have solidified a playoff spot.
Beach Bums 71
Elephants 64
Alford's Bums get the win to move ever
closer to wrapping up the C Division. Barber held onto the ball long enough to
get 15 while Shannon Sharpe had one of the biggest games of the year with a 3TD
day and 34 points. All this covered up a bad day from Randy Moss, amazing how a
34 point day from your TE will do that! Tom/Joel get another solid day from
their team, but this time they still end up with a loss. When asked about the
defeat, Tom said "who cares, I am in Hawaii for the next week!"
Contributors 75
Wapati 69
In the game of the week, John/Eric's
Contributors get the narrow win as they try and secure a wildcard spot. The team
had another nice day from McNabb, slowly erasing the bad memories of his
horrific start. Boyd/Butch continue to "drop like a rock", as their Wapati lose
again. The Wapati had a solid day from Owens and Kitna, but Moulds with a DNP
(did not play) and Coles with a DNP (did not perform) and the 6 point loss
really puts the Wapati in a battle for a playoff spot.
Bandits 77
Fish 46
Al's Bandits post the top score in the
league as they continue to battle back into the playoff picture. Plummer returns
and puts up 19 to lead the Bandits, while Gonzo had the 2nd best TE day with 17.
With a now healthy Plummer, Faulk and an increased role for McCardell, the
Bandits are certainly peeking at the right time. Wayne/Rich's Fish drop another
game, just about dropping them out of the playoffs (they may actually be out, I
am to lazy to figure out the 37 tiebreaker scenarios). It was yet another team
having a big day against the Fish, a reoccurring theme this year. No truth to
the rumors Wayne was charged with stabbing William Green this week, although no
one could blame him if he did.
Destroyers 65
Filiricans 54
Steve/Joe get back on the winning side as
the Destroyers are within a point of clinching the D Division title. Manning
didn't miss Harrison much as he posted a 19, while Harrison's replacement
Walters had 14 before leaving early with an injury. All that is left for
Destroyers is to get the 1 point and most importantly get healthy for the
playoffs. Johnny/Matt drop the game as the Filiricans' Pitt defense had -3 to
solidify the loss. The Filiricans are still in the thick of the wildcard chase,
but must get a few wins or need some help to get in.
