Week #7
The Commish's Corner is back after a week off. It has been a tough month for the Commish, as the job has really taken up most of my time. The good news is that I am back to focusing on the new construction in Lone Tree, and have been relieved of my other assignments.
So what does the Commish do now that he actually has a few minutes of free time? I make plans to take the wife out Saturday night, but first I am going to watch the first few innings of the World Series. Yes, this is a football league, but I need to vent! I know many of you are sports nuts like myself, and find that the World Series is a exciting event even if our favorite teams are not in it. So I sit down to watch the start of the game, and wonder with anticipation who the Yankees will trot out to deliver and inspirational signing of the National Anthem? I am thinking it has to be a superstar with local ties, maybe a local favorite like Bruce Springsteen would deliver a pounding version. Maybe Billy Joel would be the choice, as he is a known Yankee supporter. Heck, maybe even a Jon Bon Jovi, since he seems to be the choice for NY rallying songs. I could even live with a national icon like Aretha Franklin or Tony Bennett. So who do they trot out........ none other than Clay Aiken? Clay freaking Aiken???? Are you kidding me????? Game 1 of the World Series in New York City and I get Clay Aiken???? Didn't he LOSE the American Idol contest???? Since Fox is televising the games, I guess we can expect more of the Fox self promotion as we head back to NY. My money is on Bart Simpson singing the anthem at game 6. Clay Aiken? Un-freaking-believable!
Here is a look at the week 7 action:
Plague 68
Doggy Style 55
Bill/John get the nod thanks to a big week
from Tomlinson with 22. This was a must win for the Plague, as they need to
prevent to Doggy Style from jumping out to a big division lead. The Plague
pulled off a trade, swapping disappointing George for disappointing Martin. Not
exactly an earth shattering trade. Jeff/Scott drop the game, but still hold onto
the top spot in the A division. Davis was a no show for the Style, while Taylor
was on a bye. McNair continues to shine for the team and Heap was the top scorer
this week with 16.
Cows 55
Machine 31
Tom gets a solid week from his Cows as the
easily turn back the lowly Machine. Dillon returns from injury and Shockey has
another productive day to lead the Cows. Frank/Jim continue to get weak scoring
efforts from their team, as they drop to 2-5. Gannon is so far removed from his
MVP season, he has to be in danger of finding a spot on the bench, for both the
Raiders and the Machine.
Maulers 88
Cossacks 71
In the game of the week, Merv/Mike get the
win in a battle of two teams that both finished in the top 3. The Maulers get 37
from the WR's, to go with 15 from Portis as they keep the top spot in the B
Division and the league points race. Maze/Mac suffer a loss, despite a solid
day. The Cossacks make a trade to acquire McAllister and he pays off right away
with19. Henry out performed his new back field mate with 22, but it was all for
naught as the Cossacks suffer the loss.
Manatees 102
Death 63
Boy, is the B Division tough or what? Ratt's
team puts up the top score in the league to give the B Division a clean sweep of
the top 3. The Manatees get a big day from Dallas Def with 27, as well Glenn
puts up 26. The Commish gets a respectable day with a top 8 finish, but finished
way short of the Manatees top week. Brooks finally gets back on track to lead
the Death with 27, but the Commish is left wondering how hard it will be to win
his division as it it apparent the B Division is going to be a battle.
Wapati 52
Elephants 39
Boyd/Butch get the win thanks to a solid day
from their SF connection. Garcia had 13, and Owens finally steps up with 20. The
Wapati have the lead in the C Division, but need a healthy and performing WR
corps to keep the division lead. Tom/Joel drop to 1-6 as it was another
disappointing effort from their Elephants. Ramsey gets banged up while Rickey
had an off week to seal their fate.
Contributors 66
Beach Bums 64
John/Eric get a win in the closest game of
the week over the Beach Bums. The Contributors get a big week from Alexander
with 22 to offset another poor week by QB McNabb. How long will John/Eric
continue to wait for McSuck to snap out of it? Brain gets the loss and you can
point at several reasons why. The Bums pick up the reliable Hall at kicker and
he gets 1, while pickup Hakim gets 0 and pickup Peterson gets 2. The new
acquisitions obviously did not come through.
Bandits 55
Filiricans 52
Al gets the win as Gonzo comes through with
6 on Monday to clinch it. The Bandits injury woes continue as Gordon gets banged
up and puts up a 0, but Tenn. Def and Elam stepped up to get the much needed
win. Johnny/Matt suffer the loss, despite a nice comeback for Culpepper with 20.
A 0 from Hilliard and just 1 from Smith proved costly.
Destroyers 51
Fish 40
Steve/Joe get the win as they weather the
bye week without the Manning/Harrison combo. Brady was a great bye week
pickup with 19, as well new defense Minnesota had a solid 14. The Fish get 16
from Bulger, but it was not enough to get Wayne/Rich a needed win. The Fish RB's
had a bad week with just 6 combined.
