Week #5
Last week we took the "What if?" approach to the action, this week in honor of the new Governor of California and the departure by Fat Head from Game Day, we will take a "Say what?" approach to the action on the field. "Say what?" is the reaction I had this week when I read thousands of people actually voted for Gary Coleman in the Governor's race, and also the same reaction I had when reading the San Diego boxscore to find out David Boston had 31 points this week. Say what???
Here is a look at the week 5 action:
Manatees 76
Plague 41
Ratt gets back on the winning side thanks to
big days from Dallas Def and Dallas WR Glenn. I am not sure which was more
surprising, Dallas Def with two safeties in one game, or Priest with just 6 and
the Manatees still scored the 3rd high in the league. Both led me to a big "Say
What?". Bill/John get little production this week from their team , leading to a
loss and a 16th place finish. Tomlinson was human again with just 4, prompting
John to start offering Tomlinson around the league in a trade. Bill and I both
reacted the same way, "Say what?"
Death 71 Cows

The Commish gets the win thanks to a
balanced attack led by RB's Green/Barber with 17/12. The Death are locked in a
battle in the tough B Division that has all 4 teams at 3-2, but with the lack of
WR depth it may be an uphill climb. The Commish said "Say what?" this week to
many times to count when sorting through the endless claims of players already
on rosters or backups to injured franchise players. Tom's Cows get a
disappointing effort from Hasselbeck and then lose Rogers to injury to add
insult. Tom was left saying "Say what? Conway is on a bye this week?"
Machine 52
Cossacks 48
Frank/Jim get the win thanks to a DNP from
RB James. Normally the DNP is not good, but this week it worked out for the
Machine. James was probable, didn't play, and #1 sub Bettis found the end zone
for 6 points and the win. I gotta believe Frank/Jim had the same "Say what?"
reaction to Boston's big game that I did. Maze/Mac get the loss, as the Cossacks
couldn't get the needed points from "that wuss Keyshawn" on MNF. The Cossacks
struggled with the decision to bench Henry leading to the inevitable "Say what?"
as he played and had a solid day.
Doggy Style 87
Maulers 69
Jeff/Scott post the top score in the league
thanks to a huge day from their backfield. Their QB and RB's combined for 56
points as the Style move ahead of the pack in the A Division. Jeff/Scott don't
have much to question these days, but after a 4th straight week of a kick return
TD by their KC ST they had to "Say what?" when they added up the points and only
get 4 for the week. Merv/Mike's Maulers get a solid bounce back from Portis, but
were simply outgunned this week. They decided to drop Green at QB for the rookie
Leftwich which is bound to make them "Say what?" in the next few weeks.
Destroyers 81
Elephants 57
Steve/Joe had to be concerned with their
dynamic duo going up against the TB Def, but have no fear, they worked the magic
again! The Destroyers have now received 124 points in the last two weeks from
these two. Mr. Driver will lead this chant..... "Say what????". Tom/Joel drop to
1-4 as they just couldn't hang with the big two of the Destroyers. On a positive
note, we did have a Pearless Price sighting this week, as he finally showed up
for the Elephants and posted a team high 19. Tom/Joel are still echoing "Say
what?" after the Indy/TB game, and may be for some time.
Contributors 63
Fish 48
John/Eric get a big day from K Hall and
solid RB performance to get the win. The contributors had a nice day from Ricks
as well, but still are saying "Say what?" every week as they add up McNabb's
points. This week you just need one finger to do that. Wayne/Rich drop to 1-4 as
the Fish are making it hard for themselves to defend their title on the field.
Carter was a nice bye week pickup and Janikowski had a solid 18 to lead the
Fish. Once again the Fish are left with "Say what?" as top pick Green continues
to disappoint.
Beach Bums 55
Filiricans 49
Alford gets the win as Moss goes off again
for 21 and gives the Bums just enough to hold of the Filiricans. Brian was heard
muttering "Say what?" as he wonders if Pittsburgh even realizes Burress is still
on the team. Johnny/Matt drop to 1-4 as they can't get solid production across
the board yet again. This week it was garner who was down and Thrash puts up a 0
starting in place of Bruce. The Filiricans are still saying "Say what?" after
last weeks dismantling at the hands of the Destroyers.
Wapati 62
Bandits 51
Boyd/Butch get the win to stay in the lead
of the overall team points race. The Wapati had a solid week, less the -3 from
QB Maddox, who was promptly dropped this week. One still has to "Say what?" when
looking at the Wapati WR's. Al gets a lackluster performance from their RB's and
Plummer was average this week as the Bandits also drop to 1-4. Gonzo had a nice
game for the team, but Al was left with a "Say what?" as McCardell went off
Monday night and could have given him the win.
