Week #1

What a strange start to the NFL season! In a bizarre kickoff to the season, the B Division went 4-0 against the A Division, while the C Division went 4-0 against the D Division. I don't ever remember two divisions sweeping the other in the same week?

The action on the field was quite competitive week 1, highlighted by a 83-82 shootout between the Fish and Beach Bums. Many an early pick turned in solid performances led by Priest with 27. I guess the hip is okay??? Top pick Tomlinson led the disappointments in week 1, but it won't be long before he cracks off a 200yd 3 TD performance.

Here is a look at the week 1 action:

Maulers 85    Plague 46
New team name for Bill/John, same old results for the Plague as they get stomped by the Maulers. Merv/Mike get 23 from Portis and a combined 32 from WR combo Holt/Johnson. The Plague was an appropriate new team name and Brady was just the man to lead the Plague. His -4 set the early tone and only stud WR Ward could put up a decent game with 23 points.

Manatees 82    Cows 48
Ratt gets off to a great start as his Manatees get out of the gate quickly and easily handle the Cows. Led by super stud Holmes with 27 and a big game from K Chandler the Manatees nearly cracked the top 3 in week one. Driver's Cows struggled in week 1 and it was the TE/K combo that did them in as they were outscored 33-7. The Cows addressed their lack of RB prior to week 1 as they acquired McAllister from the Destroyers. They had to give up the connection of Manning-Harrison to get Deuce, time will tell if it was the right move. For the record, the Cows would have been on the losing side even if they didn't make the trade.

Death 64    Machine 31
The Commish gets a win and top 8 just to keep pace with the rest of the B Division. Frank's team made it easy on the Death as the Machine WR's went 0-0-0. Ahmad led the Death with 21 and TB Def helped out with 18 against Philly, much to the disgust of the Commish. Frank can chalk this one up as a "when it rains, it pours" week, Gannon was the lone player to score double digits.

Cossacks 91    Doggy Style 47
The Cossacks complete the B Division sweep and take top honors with 91 points in week one. Maze/Mac get 20 from their Denver D to lead the way. Only one way to go from here Cossack fans! Jeff/Scott follow up their banner scoring baseball season with a clunker of an offensive performance.  Taylor/Davis had mediocre weeks but showed flashes that should help the 'Dogs get back into the win column.

Elephants 54    Bandits 34
Tom/Joel get the win but are the sole winning team not to get a top 8. The Elephants were led by Sir Rickey with 15 and a surprise Joey Galloway sighting with 19. I swear in typing in the rosters this year I nearly typed in Galloway Sea, he has been truly a forgotten man in Big D the last few years. Al's team gets a nice -3 from Jake vs the Bungles and it was down hill from there. Marshall still struggles to get the touches as the St. Louis play calling remains iffy at best, while Driver gets a 0 and a ambulance ride to the ER. Talk about adding injury to insult!

Contributors 58    Destroyers 36
This year's Contributors coaching staff includes to savvy veterans in McSwain and Erdman. The grind out a win over the Destroyers and squeeze into the top 8. Consider it a banner week one for the Contributors as they were led by Alexander's 18. Steve and newcomer Joe have quite the disappointing week with their team after pulling off a big trade prior to week one. It was double tough week for Steve as he went to the dismal Eagles/Bucs game in Philly Monday night, and watched Joe's favorite team Tampa Bay embarrass the Eagles. It can only get better for Steve and the Destroyers.

Beach Bums 83    Fish 82
Alford's Bums take down the defending champs by a single point in week 1 in the game of the week. Wayne/Rich suffer the loss despite a big 26 point game from Chambers, while the Bums were led by Moss's 19.  It was even tougher for the Fish as the Bums get a top 3 finish in the weekly money, while the Fish finished in a tie for 4-5th overall. The Fish now have major questions as a seemingly healthy Warner has been benched for Bulger in week 2. I will go on the record as saying Martz is the biggest buffoon of a coach in the NFL.

Wapati 64    Filiricans 58
Boyd/Butch get the win and a top 8 as their Wapati hold off the Filiricans. Maddox was the leader with 20 and T.O. chipped in his usual 9 without a TD. Johnny/Matt suffer the loss but have encouraging signs as Culpepper looks like a solid choice to bounce back and Garner continues to be a top 5 back.
