Week #8
With just 5 weeks remaining in the regular season, this are getting mighty interesting in the league. The B Division remains the toughest race, while wildcard spots are up for grabs in both conferences, with just about every team still in shouting distance. Injuries continue to change the face of the league as every week a player or two of significance goes down. It has been even further complicated by the franchise player rule that gives teams rights to back ups. What is making things even more difficult is that teams are consistently bypassing the back up for another player. It has been asked many times about why back ups don't become available immediately when a team bypasses them for another replacement player. The rule was changed this year so that if a franchise player is listed as out, and a team bypasses the back up, only then the back up becomes available to the league. But as has been the case numerous times this year, players are regularly being listed as doubtful even when they are definitely not playing. Remember, last year teams retained rights to back ups even if a player was listed as out, and they bypassed the back up for a different player. We tweaked the rule, but it still seems to be a little unfair. I will propose next year we amend the franchise rule to state "if a franchise player is listed as out or doubtful, they retain no rights to the back up if they chose a different replacement". That seems to be a realistic solution to the endless questions and complaints I have been getting this year.
When you get to the bottom and the week 9 preview, check out the Commish's record last week! Yes, I picked all 8 winners correctly! I am giving out my powerball predictions for a fee this week. :>)
Here is a look at the week 8 action:
Plague 55
Death 46
Bill/John get a win over the Death in a
ho-hum type of game. Nothing fancy for the Plague, two big games from Tomlinson
and Ward, and the Plague get back to .500 at 4-4. The Commish suffers a 2nd loss
in a row, something that is near devastating in the tough b Division. The Death
got 22 from Tampa Bay Def, but not much else.
Cossacks 54
Cows 48
These two teams also battled it out this
week in college, but here the Cossacks get the win. Maze/Mac get 15 from bye
week QB Kitna to lead the team. Driver's Cows get 18 from Hasselbeck, but a dnp
from Dillon due to a car accident on the way to the game proved costly. Corey
Dillon may have talent, but it is always something with this guy!
Maulers 96
Machine 47
Merv/Mike take the top honor this week with
their 96 point performance. Holt is just plain amazing this year as he puts 20
as he leads the Maulers to a 6-2 record and the top team point total in the
league. Frank/Jim continue to watch their team struggle to score, as they were
doubled up this week by the Maulers. 27 of the 47 Machine points came from their
kicker and defense, which will not win many games.
Doggy Style 77
Manatees 62
In a hard fought battle, Jeff/Scott's Doggy
Style get the win over the Manatees. The Style get 21 from Davis and 13 from
Smith as the have a 4 point lead in the A Division. Ratt's team gets 28 from
super stud Holmes, but a -1 from Bledsoe was the crushing blow. The Manatees
have a tough task ahead as they face the Maulers next, and Holmes is on a bye.
Ouch!
Fish 85
Elephants 53
Wayne/Rich get a much needed win and post
the 2nd high score in the league in doing so. The Fish got 22 from Wayne and 18
from Lewis as the defending champs try and get back into the playoff race.
Tom/Joel's Elephants drop to 1-7 as they drop their 3rd straight division game.
Zero points from their QB, as well as an off week by Williams was to much to
overcome.
Filiricans 84
Contributors 45
Johnny/Matt get back in the win column as
the have a solid week with 84 points and a top 3 finish. Davis looks like a find
for the Filiricans as he posted 23 ,and had help from Hilliard with 23 as well.
John/Eric drop to 4-4 as their Contributors suffer the loss. McNabb finally
throws a TD pass, but other than Alexander with 16 there wasn't much to be happy
about for the team.
Beach Bums 60
Bandits 45
Alford's Bums get a win thanks to another
big day from Moss with 23. Newly acquired Barber had 14 to help the Bums get the
win and top 8 finish. Al has bye week problems and goes a player short, which
was a tough call compounded by a 0 point day from QB Carter. The Bandits are
hoping to get Faulk back soon, but will the Bandits have enough time to turn it
around?
Destroyers 59
Wapati 40
Steve/Joe's Destroyers go to 7-1 after a win
over the Wapati. Manning had 20 to lead the team, while George finally shows
life with 18, certainly leaving the Plague wondering where that was all year
after their recent trade with the Destroyers. Butch/Boyd get a weak day from
their SF combo, complicated by starting Jolley on a bye. The Wapati remain a top
the C Division.
