THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR   Playoff Edition 2.10

The first round of the Playoffs did not disappoint as the two games could have gone either way. The 2005 post season is now in full swing and the Championship is very much up for grabs as scoring can evaporate easily for any team. In a one game elimination, the regular season now means nothing as the hot team will move on, and a season front runner could be sent home early. Here is a recap of week one play off action.

Game Cocks @ Stallions; 77.5 – 77 Stallions

Can you believe it? The Stallions are involved in their second game of the year in which the home field advantage would determine the winner. This time the Horses get the break as they win by a half point after losing by the same margin earlier in the year. This is sweet justice to Coach Mike as he lost several heartbreakers this season. RB Young had a stellar game and RB’S Brown, Lewis, and the LSU Def contributed enough to overcome the dismal showing of the Virginia QB. The Stallions move on to round two and hope the heartbreak is firmly in the rear view mirror. The Game Cocks had a great surge to end the season, and nearly pulled off the upset over the Stallions. They scored at every position, but were ultimately let down by the terrible performance of the UCLA Bruins. The Gamers thought they had pulled this one out, but they did not account for the allowed two-point conversion by the Irish Defense. A tough loss for the Game Cocks who were solid down the stretch. This game demonstrates every catch and yard can mean the difference in fantasy ball.

Lightning @ Cossacks; 75 –65 Lightning

The Lightning get the win despite the sub par play of Stud RB Williams. The Notre Dame QB, Hagen, and the Virginia Kicker pulled it together to get the Lightning’s first post season win.  The Lightning have the talent to go far if they click. Coach Rogan hopes Williams' ankle is ok going forward, but either way Deangelo may find it tough to run against an SEC Defense; especially one containing ticked off Volunteers that are sick of losing. The Cossacks fine season came to an end when several positions let them down. The negative four by the Colorado State QB was too much to overcome and The mighty Cossacks make an early exit. Solid games by Lynch and Bush were wasted as Coach Maze left some points on the bench. Congrats on a fine season Cossacks, you will be back strong next year.

Week One Scrub Bowl Champion – Venom 124 Points

The Venom show the firepower that failed to materialize in the regular Season. Wali Lundy finally decided to join the team with four touchdowns. The Venom drafted him number one and had this production in mind all year. These were his first rushing TD’S! Pittman continued his too little too late touch down surge as well reaching the end zone twice once again.  In recent years, Coach Jeff’s teams have scored well into the 100’s upon exciting the playoffs. This makes four scrub wins in a row counting Scrub bowl II victories last year.  The Contributors, Elephants, and Keglers each outperformed the four play off teams. A pair of 102’s and an 89 demonstrated that these teams were good enough for the Post Season, but could not put it all together. The Elephants were extremely strong to end the year, but were doomed by a slow start. The same teams square off again in week two of the Scrub Bowl, as the Cossacks and Game Cocks meet in Scrub bowl II.

Four teams remain as The Stallions meet the DragonFarts and the Predators clash with the Lightning. Each team knows they have to be consistent to win, and victory will hang on each play. As the Game Cocks found out, any team can exit as a result of one extra catch by your opponent. Four strong teams remain; it should remain competitive from here on out. Good Luck to all!

I love this Game!
