THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR              Edition 2.2

Week two saw some teams get their first win, while three squads are on the outside looking in. Overall scoring was down as the top six bonus bottomed out at 72. Many teams still have holes to fill as evidenced by all the zeros posted. All three division leaders are perfect in wins and bonus points, and look to increase their lead as we enter crucial division competition in week three.

Here is a recap of week two action.

Cossacks @ Lightning ; 66-56 Lightning

This was a battle of defenses as the Sacks D scored 32 and The Lightning 29. Usually when a D does this well a team is assured a win, unfortunately there was very little support from the position players. The Sacks Purdue QB had a respectable game, but four other players had a combined five points. The Cossacks may now be rethinking passing on Peterson at the draft as Lynch has not looked like a high first rounder as yet. The Lightning did not get any support, but still managed the 10 pt win to avoid going 0 –2. Both squads are now 1-1 on the young Season.

Browns @ Stallions; 78- 72  Stallions

In a very competitive contest The Stallions nosed the Browns to improve to 2-0 and stay unbeaten. The main horse was QB Brad Smith who was set free to run again. He posted a very strong 36, basically accounting for all the offense for Missouri. Good games from Blackmon and free agent pick-up Void sealed the win.  The Stallions look good early and hope to keep the momentum going into division play. The Browns fought valiantly, but could not overcome the sub par play of the Iowa QB Tate. He left the game with a concussion and recorded a dismal minus one. RB Peterson returned to form basically willing the woeful Sooners to victory. Rumor has it that he is not attending classes and may be benched until he straightens things out in the classroom. Coach Rose will need to sit this Kid down and get his priorities in order. A strong showing by the Florida State D was not enough. The Browns are even at 1 –1 but get the bonus once again so that is a small victory. They play the division leading Dragonfarts next week, and can move into first place with a win.

Predators @ Contributors ; 110- 50 Predators

The Predators dominate once again to remain perfect on the season. They again have the high score for the week and are averaging an incredible 136 points a game. This is the best start of any team in fantasy history. The Predator squad was great top to bottom with an impressive display of consistent scoring. The Predator Coach will need to keep his kids focused going into division play as they have yet to be challenged thus far. The defending Champion Contributors had an off week and seek to regroup to regain their championship form. The play of QB Leak is encouraging and is a solid anchor in which to build upon. Breaston had another disappointing game, and T.E. Lewis only managed two points. The Contributors are now even on the season and have a hard week of practice ahead of them.

RedHawks @ GameCocks ; 78- 41 Hawks

The Hawks get the win and the bonus to draw even on the season. They got a great game from Wynn coming off suspension. He looks to be back in the coach’s good graces and scored a solid 24. The BYU QB had a very good day finally hooking up in the end zone. The Hawks were able to win despite the disappearance of stud Texas Tech receiver Hicks. Turned out he was suspended for undisclosed reasons and was being disciplined. He will be back for division play, and the Hawks were fortunate they did not need him this week. Despite his zero, the Birds got the win and the all-important bonus. The Gamecocks had a day they would like to forget. The game started out with the Pitt QB posting a dismal minus three and a loss to Ohio….Not Ohio State mind you, small school Ohio! Waanstedt sure knows how to mess up a good team. Drew has been solid, but the Gamers need to fill in some holes to remain competitive in the A division. They are still looking for their first win and must win next week to stay out of a deep hole.

DragonFarts @ Elephants ; 77 –59 Dfarts

The Dfarts win their second game to start the 2005 season with a bang. The Farts won some scrub bowls to end 04, and have followed up with great momentum thus far. They get another bonus to lead the C division. Great games from Keller the AZ St QB, Henderson from the high-powered Red Raiders, and a finally living up to potential Duck WR Williams lead the way. The Dfarts hope to win in division play to get a solid lock on the C Division.

The Pachyderms fall to 0-2 and Coach Brady had a look of concern leaving the field Saturday. While bright spots were in the roster with The Tex QB Young, Santonio Holmes, and the Colorado Kicker, they received only seven points from three players. Darby will need to produce for The Elephants to contend. Week three is huge for The Pach, and they will be running extra sprints this week to prepare.

Venom @ Keglers ; 104 – 60 Venom

After a forgettable debut, The Venom responded for their new Coach by posting the second highest score of the week. The Texas Tech QB Hodges exploded as expected, and showed off a running dimension previous Red Raider QB’S did not possess. He posted 46 points to lead the Venom to Victory. Purdue receiver Bryant was a bright spot catching nine balls while rushing for a TD in Purdue’s new hybrid spread offense. After catching only two balls last week, BYU WR Watkins responded big with two scores.  The Venom picked up free agent Tex Tech WR Johnson this week to add more teeth into which to inject their poison. He plays the important Y position in the Tech passing scheme that in past seasons proved very productive. The Keglers fall to 0-2 while their new Coach still looks for his first win at the new school. Zabransky had a better game, but has not yet showed the rushing Skills that made him a high draft pick. PJ Daniels looks solid thus far this season, and should add to the Kegler attack the rest of the year. The Keglers will need a few more pieces to consistently score the rest of the year. Next week does not get any easier as they get the powerhouse Predators in division play. If they fail to figure out a way to score more points, it might be a long Saturday for Coach Snyder.

Next week is a huge week as we enter division play. If the three division leaders win again with a bonus point, they will get a comfortable lead with a third of the season gone. The teams that are winless cannot afford to start the season 0-3 so a win is crucial. All eyes will be on the Predators to see if they can lead the league again in scoring. It will be a rough week of practice; I expect all teams to come out fired up to play. Good luck to all!

                                                                             I love this game!
