THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR              Edition 2.7

Seven weeks are in the books, and only two games remain as teams fight for all important playoff berths.  Division races are in full swing, and no team has clinched the division. The action the next two weeks will shake things out; some will move on and some will be left to compete in the scrub bowl. This year has been explosive, with many teams having mood swings from one week to the next. The team that remains consistent from here on out will be on the fast track to the Championship.

Lightning @ Elephants ; 114 – 74 Elephants

Coach Brady gets an impressive win to validate a frustrating campaign. He has been waiting for Vince Young to explode, and his #1 pick was validated. Santonio Holmes had a break out game, and Darby and Bowe contributed to get The Pach the high score for the week. There is little hope for a post-season berth, but the Elephants showed what they were capable of all season. The Lightning lose the lead in the A division with the loss. They bounce back from a dismal showing in week six with a respectable game, but could not get much production from several spots. Deangelo Williams continues to impress with another MVP fantasy game. The Lightning fall to 4 –3 and are two points from the division lead. They are very much in contention going in to the final two weeks.

Stallions @ Keglers; 83– 81 Stallions

A tough, hard fought competitive game between two proud franchises! The Stallions gut out the two-point victory with stellar play from their running backs. A great game by RB young lead the way with 26, and free-agent pick up Brown had an inexplicably great game when BYU had a complete loss of personality and relied on the ground game. This Victory is redemption for the Horses as they lost several tough games this year. They move into first place in the A division to firmly set their sites on the post season and a division championship. The Keglers were completely frustrated by the disappearance of Moss. Tyrone’s Zero sealed the Keglers fate….. Great games by Zabransky, Whitehead, and the Oklahoma D were wasted in the defeat. For consolation, the Keggers get the bonus and still have an outside shot to play in the post season.

Contributors @ Cossacks ; 78 – 70 Cossacks

Riding on the back of Michael Bush, The Cossacks win again to improve to 5 –2. The Louisville back was a steal as a #2 pick, and is proof that teams should not draft for the post season. Three bye weeks scared some owners, and allowed Bush to drop down the draft board.  His 37 points sealed the win for the Sacks, and helped overcome two zeros in the Cossack line-up. The Cossacks are benefiting from a 60.3 scored against average, while the Elephants are getting scorched by a 92.9 against average…Ouch! The Cossacks are three points behind the C division leading Farts with two games remaining. Bush will be out for one of those contests, so they will have to find production elsewhere. The Sacks have momentum, and hope to ride the crest into the playoffs. The defending Champ Contributors lose a tough one as they were let down by a dismal game by QB Leak. The Spread offense is not working in the SEC and the Gators have been struggling. Solid games by Hart and Tight ends Olson and Lewis were not enough to over come Leak’s minus one. The Contributors post-season hopes are fading, and will need to be perfect with some help the remaining two games to stay out of the Scrub Bowl.

Game Cocks @ Browns; 83.5 – 83 Gamers

For the second time this year and third going back to last season a team loses by the half point home field advantage. With all the combinations of scoring, it’s amazing how this happens. The Game Cocks win for the second week in a row after starting the season 0- 5. They get another stellar game from Drew to seal the win. While not technically eliminated from the post season, it may be too little too late for the fighting birds. The Browns lose a heartbreaker to fall to 3-4 on the season. They are still in the hunt for the last playoff berth with one point separating them from the final slot.  The Browns get the consolation of the Bonus point in this hard to take defeat.

Predators @ DragonFarts ; 114 –65 Dfarts

In a battle of the two league leading teams, the Farts erupt to put the hurt on the usually high-octane attack of the Predators. The Dfarts were lead by the amazing game by RB Henderson; his 46 pts set the tone on this day. WR Williams continued his great Season posting 22 points to seal the win. The Dragons lead the C Division and improve to 5-2. With two games left which includes a division contest, the Farts must keep producing to ensure the all-important first round bye in the playoffs. The Predators had an off week posting a 65. They could not follow up on last weeks league leading score of 121 and fall to 5-2. They are poised for the post season, and are still averaging a blistering 103.7 points per contest.

RedHawks @ Venom ; 77 – 74 Venom

In a very competitive struggle, the Venom pulled together to eek out a three point Victory. They were Lead by the Sony Playstation like game of the Tex Tech QB Hodges in which he threw for over 600 yards and five scores. The Hawks still had a chance to win in the late game in which the BYU QB was competing. The Cougers relied on the run, and Beck posted four points to ensure the Hawks lost a tough one. The Hawks fall to 3-4 while The Venom improve to 4-3. It’s amazing the Venom have won four games considering their two RB’S taken at the Draft have yet to score a rushing TD. Lundy is still fighting a sprained foot and remains benched, and Pittman can’t find the zone despite running well. The Hawks and Venom still are in the hunt for a play off berth and can’t afford to falter.

If the season ended today, the post-season teams would be; Dfarts, Predators, Stallions, Cossacks, Lightning, and Venom.  The Browns, Hawks, and Keglers still are in position to crack the party.  Two games remain, each will be crucial!!

I apologize for not getting last week’s edition published. Of merit in week six were the top scores of the Predators (121), Browns (111) and Game Cocks (106). It’s been a great year so far, and its shaping up to be a very competitive home stretch…good Luck!!!

I Love This Game!!!
