THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR              Edition 2.9

It’s been a fast and furious season and the six-playoff teams are set.  The other six are left to ponder where it all went wrong, and plan for the Scrub bowl. The Two top seeds, The Predators and DragonFarts have earned the all important bye week and will rest their guys. The four other teams will square off and try to start their championship run. The Stallions will meet the GameCocks while the Lightning will clash with the Cossacks. Congrats to the playoff teams for reaching the post season. Here is a recap of week nine action.

Lightning @ Stallions; 86 – 45 Stallions

The Horses gallop to the playoffs and the A division Championship with another solid performance. An incredible day by BYU RB Brown led the way with 40 pts. The Stallions led the league with eight top six finishes and were a model of consistency all year. They lost several close games in which they easily could have won. The Lightning seemed resigned to the loss as they could not field a full team and had Walker starting on an off week. They still make the playoffs and will be at full strength to begin the postseason against the Cossacks.

Contributors @ Gamecocks; 103 –52 Gamecocks

The GameCocks continue their impressive late season surge with another Victory to overtake the final playoff slot. They have been getting great production out of the UCLA Tandem of Olson and Drew, as well as cross-town rival RB White. They seem to be peaking at the right time and hope to take the Momentum all the way to the Championship. The defending Champs could not put it together in their follow-up campaign and miss a chance to defend their title. They were hurt by the injury of RB Hart and the less then stellar play of QB Leak. They will now put their sites on winning some scrub bowls.

Predators @ Redhawks; 105 –65 Predators

The Predators end the season in impressive fashion and clinch the top seed in the post season.  Coach Merv had his team clicking all year, and end the year with an incredible 103.4 per game scoring average. To maintain that number over nine games is truly something to be proud of. Coach Merv has reached the Championship game twice in the last few years only to come away empty, he hopes this can be the year he wins the final game of the year for his second Championship.  The Redhawks fail to make the post season and will be fighting for some dough in the Scrub Bowl. They were doomed by inconsistent play this year, but can still score points when it all comes together.

Elephants @ Keglers ; 113 – 106 Elephants

The Elephants end the season on a high after enduring a dismal start. The Pach had the ingredients to win all along, but were doomed by inconsistent play and a league leading brutal scored against average of 97.1 points a game. Coach Brady should be proud the he pulled it end the season strong. The Keglers were also plagued by inconsistent play and some bad luck. Despite having five top six finishes, they only managed to win two games. This clash summed up their season as they scored a solid 106 points and still lost! The Keglers will try to win some scrub bowls to validate a long season.

Cossacks @ Browns ; 74 –68 Browns

The Browns close out the season with a win, but fail to make the playoffs. Injuries to First round pick Peterson set the tone for a frustrating year.  They end the year with a 4 –5 record and will be looking to make some noise in the scrub bowls. The Cossacks lose, but already secured a post season berth. They were without their tone setting playmaker Michael Bush, and could not create any energy without him. The Cossacks make the post season after several frustrating years. Getting to the playoffs is a victory all its own, but Maze will be looking for more.

DragonFarts @ Venom ; 107 – 76 Dfarts

The Farts win in impressive fashion to take the C division crown and the bye week. The Farts finish with a  6- 2 record and an 89 pt scoring average. They got great games from the back up AZ QB, RB Henderson, and WR Smith. The Farts had a great year and hope to continue the magic as they play in the Post Season. The Venom had to have this game to make the playoffs, but just could not match the Farts in scoring. RB Pittman finally reached the endzone in a breakout performance, but it was too little too late. The Venom could not overcome the complete busts of first rounder RB Lundy and third pick Watkins. To illustrate the frustrating year, the Farts got 18 Pts on only three catches by Smith, and watched Henderson score two one yard rushing Td’s in the final five minutes. Both after The Tex Tech QB passed to the one-yard line. A dismal year comes to an end as Coach Jeff wonders why he ever left the Titans.

It’s been a great year! Good luck to all the play off Teams! For the Scrub Bowlers, Bragging rights and a little money remain to be won! Here’s to a great Post Season!

I don’t know why, but I still love this game!
