Week #13
The regular season has concluded and they playoffs are all set. Congrats to the 8 playoff teams who will compete for top honors this year. Here is who made the playoffs:
Division Winners:
Bandits, Demons, Contributors and Death
Wildcard Teams: Filiricans, Wapati, Machine and Fish
There was a couple of close finishes for the playoff spots. The Wapati got the final wildcard spot in the A/B Conference thanks to their 49-36 win over the struggling Filiricans. Their spot was secured despite the low scoring effort, combined with the Manatees narrow loss to the Demons. The Machine won their game denying the Cossacks a shot at the playoffs. The Machine beat the Contributors 54-35, in another not so impressive playoff clinching score. That loud "Christ almighty" you heard Sunday was Maze and his posse after seeing the Contributors low score.
The Bandits are on quite a roll right now, and the Death bounced back from recent scoring troubles to post the top 2 scores in the league. The Demons won the sidepot for most team points with 31, so they certainly a top contender as well. The Contributors? Well they won the division so they can take part of that prize money to pay off the $20 owed for having one of the four lowest scoring averages in the league. Strange to say the least! The Contributors are in the playoffs, which is all that matters!
Here is a review of the action in week #13:
Wapati
49 Filiricans 36
Boyd/Butch take a wildcard spot thanks to
their win despite the low scoring team effort. A huge game from Portis with 27
was enough to offset the -2 point game from Garcia. Next up for the Wapati is
the #1 seed Demons, so a solid game from Garcia and any points from their WR's
is a must if they want to pull off the upset. Johnny/Matt stumble across the
finish line as their team puts up the 2nd low score of the week. CALLING
MARSHALL FAULK! PLEASE REPORT TO THE FILIRICANS SIDELINE, AND PLEASE BE HEALTHY!
That should sum up what the Filiricans need next week against the high power
Bandits. 'Ricans/Bandits Part III, should be fun!
Bandits 103 Hitmen 43
Al's team is on a roll as they head into the
playoffs. Vick was dazzling again and Holmes was solid again with 22. That 1-2
punch is pretty lethal, and with the Filiricans up next for the Bandits, Al has
all the motivation he needs to keep the Bandits rolling. Bill/John still had a
chance at the playoffs, but that ended after Vick and Holmes were done. A -4
from Couch and not a whole heck of much help anywhere else and it spelled doom
for the team. The Hitmen struggled this year, maybe a few scrub bowl wins will
help ease the pain.
Demons
59 Manatees 56
Eric/Tom get the win as they were torn as to
who to play at QB, and they had just enough from the rest of the squad to make
up for the 0 at QB. The Demons don't have the QB mess this week as Maddox has
been named the starter. The Demons took top honors this year, and are looking to
take that #1 seed and make a run at the title. Rich/Mark needed a win but as has
been the story all year, the Manatees WR's didn't do anything (-1 this week) and
they fall to the QB-less Demons. A disappointing year for the Manatees, but the
WR problems were there from week one and never really addressed.
Maulers 80 Tide 52
Where the heck has this been all
year???????? Nice of Merv/Mike to hold back all year! The Maulers finally wake
up from a season long funk and post a respectable 80 point game and manage to
not finish with the lowest point total in the league. Hey, take what you can
get! KC Defense with 35 and McNair with 22 led the way. Jeff/Scott move into the
scrub bowl, knowing that a win and top 8 still would have done them no good.
Tough year for the Tide as they really showed signs of being a solid team, but
had to many down weeks along the way.
Cossacks 85 Fish 84
Maze and his posse get the win in a close
game, but thanks to the Contributors lame effort, they too are headed to the
scrub bowl. Gannon did take home the QB sidepot, along with Alexander's huge
week they didn't walk away empty handed. Wayne/Jim lose the game, leaving them
the #4 seed in the C/D conference, meaning the Death are up next. The Fish
outscored the Contributors by over 12pts a game, but ended up with a losing
record as they had didn't have much luck with the matchups. McAllister looked
good in his return from injury, and will be needed to play well again in the
first round.
Machine 54 Contributors 35
Frank's team gets the win in a low scoring
affair, setting up a rematch this week in round one of the playoffs against the
Contributors. Culpepper had a 11 point game, meaning that Griese will most
likely not return to the helm of the Machine when healthy. The "Would have never
believed it in a million years" award goes to the Machine's Fred Taylor who is
still healthy as they playoffs start. Man, that hurts to even type it! McSwain's
team had a playoff spot locked up, and they certainly played like they didn't
care much. Warner was eaten up by Philly D and now thanks to his WIFE realized
he had a broken hand. So the QB shuffle continues for McSwain, and add to it a
banged up Dunn and the Contributors will need someone to step up in the rematch
against the Machine.
Death
105 Destroyers 84
Mama Snyder has to wonder if her boys are
getting soft in their old age? The battle of the brothers normally has images of
Steve and Jeff battling it out like the old rockem sockem robots, but neither
had a whole lot to say about the game. The Death get a big game from Tomlinson
with 37, while Steve posts a solid 84 points and loses, as his luck has been
this year. What did Steve and I talk about this week? Nice Eagles win, Iverson
is the man, Thome is a Phillie and the Flyers suck. Yea, I think I beat you...
Luck
71 Cows 61
In a battle of two teams out of the
playoffs, the Luck get the win but still are headed to the scrub bowl. Brian has
a nice 1-2 punch at RB, so maybe a few scrub bowl wins could be on the horizon.
Tom's week? Who cares about friggin football, he has a new baby girl!!!!
Congrats Tom and best of luck to you and your wife!

Week #13 Preview
Last week's record: 6-2
Year to Date: 42-38
Wapati @ Demons
Wapati need a repeat performance from
Portis, while Garcia needs to play well. Smith had a 0 last week, and he may be
the deciding factor even if Portis/Garcia play well. Demons need a healthy
Maddox and no Kordell appearances or they may have problems. Martin had a tough
week last week, and must bounce back. Can Rice keep up his incredible
pace?.......
Pick:
Demons
Filiricans @ Bandits
Could be a close game, very well could be a blow out. Comes down to matchup of
RB's, Marshall vs Priest. If Priest keeps playing like Marshall use to, the
Bandits are awfully tough. If Marshall gets back to form then the Filiricans
will make a game of this. Vick has been magical lately, while cousin Brooks will
most likely watch as the 'Ricans may have Kitna at QB. Kitna? Good luck Johnny
and Matt!
Pick: Bandits
Fish @ Death
Fish need a good game from Green, and a
healthy McAllister. Coles has been big the last month and the Philly Def has a
good match up against the Seahawks. The Death have looked good all year, and
just need to keep scoring at the 80+ point mark and they will be tough to beat.
But don't rule out anything, as the Commish just hasn't had much luck of
late.....well, other than getting married!
Pick: Death
Machine @ Contributors
Upset written all over this game, in big bold italic letters. The Contributors
did win their division, but struggle to score points many weeks. Martin is in at
QB, and Dunn is hurt. Add to it a banged up Stewart at RB, and I smell a 40
point week. Prove me wrong big John! Frank needs Dante and Taylor to both play
well. Harrison is damn near enough to carry a team this year, and Frank could be
tough if that keeps up.
Pick: Machine
Scrub
Bowl Score Predictions:
Hitmen 51 Manatees 43
Tide 62 Maulers 49
Cossacks 64 Luck 41
Cows 53 Destroyers 57
Good luck to everyone in week #14! I am outta
here......
