Week #10
Ten weeks have now been played, and the playoff races are really heating up. The Demons reign supreme in the league thanks to their win over the Death in the matchup of the two top teams in the league. The Contributors have really turned things around and have taken over the top spot in the C Division, and had the 2nd high score in the league this week. The Cossacks are trying to mirror the Contributors amazing turnaround, as they had an impressive 98 point week and are right in the thick of things.
The Filiricans and Bandits are still slugging it out in the A Division, but both suffered a loss this week. The Bandits did crack the top 8, so these two teams are now tied for the A Division lead. The Hitmen lost again while the Wapati got back on the winning side as both teams do still have a chance for a playoff spot, but will need to play real well in the closing weeks.
The Manatees have found their way into a wildcard spot at this time thanks to their victory over the Destroyers. The Maulers got their 3rd win of the year, but need a lot to happen for them to make the playoffs. The Tide had been playing well, but slipped this week and may have slipped right out of any chance at a playoff birth.
The Fish are reeling as they suffered another loss and have dropped to 2nd in the C Division. The Cossacks and Machine both got wins and are in position to make the playoff race quite interesting.
The Death could have clinched the D Division this week, but came up a little short. The Cows, Luck and Destroyers are have 12 points and will battle it out with the C Division teams for a wild card spot.
Now, lets take a look at the action from week #10:
Cossacks 98 Filiricans 47
Maze and his staff get a big week from
Burress and the ageless wonder Gannon as the get a solid win. Burress with 34
and Gannon with 27 was more than enough this week, as the team looks primed for
a playoff run, if they can get in as they have their hands full with the close C
Division race. Johnny/Matt continue to get up and down performances from their
team, and this week they were down. Booker had 11, but was the only player to
post double digits. Marshall is banged up, so they really need to find some help
from other areas . You hear that Keyshawn?
Contributors 105 Bandits 76
McSwain really has his team hitting on all
cylinders this week, or was that two players hitting on all cylinders? The
Bulger to Bruce combo brought back memories of .....well, Warner to Bruce as
they posted 31 and 32 points. Oakland Def had a nice 15 game on MNF to help the
cause. The Contributors are the new leaders in the C Division, and a key matchup
this week with the Fish is huge for both teams. Al's team had a respectable week
as they did make the top 8, but the big week by their opponent was just to much.
Bennett did break off another long TD run, and was in the lineup this week to
give the Bandits the lead in that sidepot. The Bandits still are a tough team,
and have to be considered the team to beat in the A Division as they don't have
very many down weeks.
Machine 84 Hitmen 35
Frank gets a solid week from his team as
they keep things close in the C Division race. Harrison was the big gun this
week with 26, and yes, Fred Taylor is still healthy and had 16 this week. If
Griese can keep up his solid play and Harrison keeps posting double digit games
every week, the Machine are a team that will be headed to the playoffs.
Bill/John post the league low this week, thanks to Dante and his incredible
disappearing act once again. Janikowski was the lone player to score 10 points
this week, as Thrash continues to fade from the Philly offense. Bill will be on
the phone to Coach Tice and ask him to put Dante's fat butt on the bench where
he can't do any more harm to both their teams.
Wapati
59 Fish 53
Boyd/Butch get a win as they try and keep
their slim playoff hopes alive. Nothing fancy for the Wapati this week, as
Franks led the team with 12. Wayne/Jim's team is in a serious funk right now,
and if the loss this week wasn't bad enough, Boston, who was acquired for Rickey
Williams, is now done for the year. The good news for the Fish is that
McAllister definitely was the RB to keep as he had a league 20 points this week.
The Fish have their hands full now and are in a battle for their playoff life.
Manatees 76 Destroyers 59
Rich/Mark get a win and move into control of
a wildcard spot. Favre was solid again with 16, and YES, there was a Manatees WR
that actually scored this week! Hakim had 19 to have by far the best performance
of the year by a Manatees WR. Heck, that is probably the lone WR performance of
the year. The bye week Baltimore defense was also big as they had 17. Steve
suffers a loss as his team just can't seem to put it all together. Lewis was the
leader this week with 18, but McNabb has stumbled of late and will be the key to
the Destroyers playoff push.
Cows 71 Tide 36
Tom's team has a solid week and puts
themselves back into the playoff race with a win over the Tide. The formula for
success was simple for Tom, pick the right bye week QB for Bledsoe, and go with
some undrafted 3rd string rookie RB and all is well in Cowville. Collins had 16
and Mungro had 20 to match the entire Tide team. Jeff/Scott had the Tide playing
well of late, but they were back to the old ways as they could only muster up 36
points this week. San Diego defense was the lone score of more than 7 this week.
The Tide will need lost of help to make the playoffs at this point.
Maulers 51 Luck 43
Merv/Mike get a win as their team got a
couple of solid games from their RB's. Tiki had 19 and A-Train had 10 as the
Maulers get win #3. The Maulers are still mathematically in the playoff race,
but probably just for one more week. Brian suffers a loss and now sits in a 3
way tie at 12 points in the D Division. The Luck had a solid game from Brady
with 21, but the stud RB's were quiet this week. Brian needs those RB's to step
it up a notch or two if the Luck want to make the playoffs.
Demons
112 Death 105
In the game of the week certainly lived up
to the hype as the top two teams in the league slugged it out for 4 quarters.
The Death had a lead going into Monday night, and it was a battle of Garner vs
Rice. The Demons won that as Rice went off for 23 points, while Oakland
abandoned the rushing game and Garner had just 8. The win gives the Demons a 4
point lead now in the overall points, while the Death now have both the high
scoring average and high scoring average against. These two teams certainly have
shown to be the teams to beat, and this weeks game was a classic battle.
