Week #8
Team are starting to bunch together as teams rebound from bad starts while early leaders are falling back to the pack. Look no further than the Death and Razor Clams. The Death were undefeated through week 6, and now have lost two in a row and fallen a point behind the Steamrollers in their division. The Razor Clams have virtually turned over their roster after the defending champs got off to a slow start. Kudos to Ron for being aggressive in his transformation of his team, which is what fantasy football is all about. Injuries continue to change the face of the league as every week a player or two of significance goes down. It has been even further complicated by the franchise player rule that gives teams rights to back ups. What is making things even more difficult is that teams are consistently bypassing the back up for another player. It has been asked many times about why back ups don't become available immediately when a team bypasses them for another replacement player. The rule was changed this year so that if a franchise player is listed as out, and a team bypasses the back up, only then the back up becomes available to the league. But as has been the case numerous times this year, players are regularly being listed as doubtful even when they are definitely not playing. Remember, last year teams retained rights to back ups even if a player was listed as out, and they bypassed the back up for a different player. We tweaked the rule, but it still seems to be a little unfair. I will propose next year we amend the franchise rule to state "if a franchise player is listed as out or doubtful, they retain no rights to the back up if they chose a different replacement". That seems to be a realistic solution to the endless questions and complaints I have been getting this year.
Here is a look at the week 8 action:
Chieftains 66
Death 44
Harry's Chieftains hand the Death its second
loss in a row as the roll to a 66-44 win. Holt has stepped up big this year as
he continues his fine season with 20 to lead the offense. The Snyder Boys get a
clunker of a game from their Death as they manage just 44 in a repeat
performance of last weeks disappointing effort. Three zeros and another dismal
QB performance was the story for the Death.
Lunatics 96
Connection 57
Lots of big days for the Lunatics as Corey
takes top scoring honors in a win over the Connection. Moss was the top gun with
23, while George chipped 18 after weeks of being ineffective. Chris/Scott's
Connection drop to 2-6 after the loss. Davis had a big day for the team with 21,
but it was to much Lunatics this week for the Connection.
Dynamite 90
Lemurs 68
Larry gets a big day from his Dynamite as
the put up 90 in a win over the Lemurs. Manning was his usual self with 20,
while Miami Def matched the 20 point effort to give the team the 2nd high score
in the league. Ray/Jeff get a big day from Harris and Ward, but a off week
by Johnson and Williams left the team on the short end. The Lemurs did get a top
8 finish, but wins is what the Lemurs really need.
Steamrollers 54
Bullets 46
A win for Al/Boyd's Steamrollers as they
take over the top spot in the B Division. Bulger continues to shine for the
'Rollers, while Vanderjagt is this years top kicker as he puts up 12 more
points. Bill/John get a mediocre day and end up on the losing side. McNair was
human with 7 while Taylor struggled with 4. The Bullets still have the lead in
the A Division, but the division race is really tight now.
Starfish 73
Vikings 53
In the battle of the Brians, it is
Grandestaff that reigns supreme in a upset win. The Starfish had just 1 win
coming in, but as it was in their first win the offense steps up and the
Starfish put up a solid score. Wayne with 22 was the leader, while Lewis helped
out with 18. The Vikings get nice days from Tomlinson and Collins, but that was
it and the Vikings drop to 4-4.
Razor Clams 85
Dragons 39
Ron keeps his Clams rolling as they win
again handedly over the Dragons. The Razor Clams get 18 from Hasselbeck and 23
from sleep Davis to get back to .500 at 4-4. Steve/Marv's Dragons follow up last
weeks big week with a disappointing effort in the loss. Culpepper led the team
10, but not much else from the remainder of the team.
Kingpins 69
Club CC
Boyd Sr gets another win as his Kingpins
trounce the Club CC. Alexander led the way with 16, while Kitna helped out with
15. Troy/Trent get a miserable effort from their team as they scored just 25 in
the loss. Brees filled in for Favre with 1, which was more than Gary, Burress
and Bradford had combined. Scary!
CRMO 66 Double
Stuffed 24
JR's team gets the win over a helpless
Double Stuffed team. Holmes remains the man for JR with 28, while Horn had a
nice 20 point game. Fran/Billy continue to watch the horror show know as the
Double Stuffed. The 6 offensive starters combined for just 7 points in another
tough day for the team.
