Week
#7
The Contributors WIN! Finally all teams have recorded their first win of the
year! As we head into the final week of the regular season (make up week for the
canceled week #3 on the schedule), The Elephants and Cows have clinched their
respective Division titles. Strangely enough, these two powerhouses face off in
the final week of the regular season. Is this a Championship Game preview? Could
very well be if these two teams keep up their torrid pace. The B Division title
is still up for grabs, and the final wildcard spot is yet to be decided as well.
As we head into the final week, I would like to thank everyone for a great
season, we had minimal problems with the usual problems (lineups and scores) and
everyone really helped make my job a little bit easier. Many thanks again! Sorry
for the slight delay in getting the report out this week, I have finally taken a
break from work for the week and put the report off a little bit to enjoy some
family time and R&R! I feel so honored that the Commish's Corner has become
such a "must read" each week! Now a look back at the past week's
results......
Contributors
55 Stingrays 44
Two teams
headed for the Loser Bowl (gosh, hard to imagine these two coaches are already
delegated to that role!) faced off and McSwain gets his first win of the year
over Merv's Stingrays. The Contributors have tried everything this year to get
that first win, even resorting to prayer last week, but it ended up being good
old fashioned solid play from just 2 players that did it. McSwain couldn't even
field a legal lineup as he didn't want to release any players for the crucial
Loser Bowl run he know seems to have his team convinced they can pull off.
Didn't matter anyway, the Contributors are on the board with a win lead by the
Texas Twosome Benson and the QB's with 23 & 18 points. Merv couldn't make it
two in a row as his Stingrays fell back to their old ways, finding a way to
lose. After the huge 48 point week last week, the Clemson QB followed it up with
a whopping -1 points! Now that about sums up the year for Merv, hopefully
Dantzler can score on the positive side come Loser Bowl time!

Elephants
86 Christians 54
Mr. Tom
Brady continues to impress in both the college league and for the Patriots.
Rumor has it that Drew Bledsoe will be taking over the reigns of the Elephants
next year, as apparently he will have quite a bit of free time on his hands next
fall in Foxboro. Mr. Tom Brady's team continues to put up big numbers, even in a
week when his 1-2 punch Florida tandem was on a bye week. The Elephants have the
A Division title wrapped up, but a big showdown looms ahead next week with the
Cows, to determine the overall points champion and the top seed in the playoffs.
Oh yea, Mr. Tom Brady gets his stud QB/WR combo back for the game. Rusch's
Christians continue to let opportunity slip away. This was the week to play the
mighty Elephants, but the team could not capitalize. And in all fairness, 86
points is still a tough score to beat. The Christians got yet another solid game
from Nebraska QB, but could not overcome the 0 points from two offensive
players. The Christians need a big game vs the Redhawks next week, or they to
will be battling it out in the Loser Bowl.
Elephants:
clinched A Division title
Christians: still alive for the final wildcard spot
Redhawks
53 Pride 51
Carey
finally gets his 2nd win of the year, guiding his Redhawks to a win over
division rival the Pride, putting the Pride's playoff hopes in jeopardy. Playing
the role of the spoiler was just the motivation the Redhawks needed, and the
team responded well to the challenge. Lead by Oklahoma QB's 20 points, the
Redhawks face the Christians and can put their playoff dreams to rest this week.
Carey could have his team on a two game win streak going into the Loser Bowl,
maybe he can make up some of the fine money he accumulated this year.
Larry/Harry liked their chances going into the last Division matchup week, with
the Death sure to lose to the Maulers. But the Pride couldn't take care of their
own game, and with the Death's upset of the Maulers, Larry/Harry need a little
help to get into the playoffs. The Pride face off against the Titans in the
crucial final week, and Jeff will not roll over for anyone and the Pride will
need to bring their A Game next week to have any shot at the playoffs.
Redhawks:
eliminated from the playoffs
Pride: still alive for the final wildcard spot
Death
42 Maulers 32
Go
figure?????? The Commish continues to lead a charmed life as his Death team advances
to 5-2 with a surprising win over the Maulers. I know, the Commish has caught
numerous breaks this year with his matchups, as the Death have only cracked the
top 6 once all year, but the team is in the thick of the playoff race, and that
is why they play the games. The Death get solid games from Oregon QB and
Simonton, but not much else. The Commish is not overly optimistic about his
chances at an actual championship run, but I would be more than happy just to
make the playoffs after last year's inaugural disaster! 42 points won't cut it
next week against the Q-Dogs, so the Commish has his work cut out for him just
to get to the playoffs. Mike was not very happy with this weeks results. Mike
rightfully figured that by 10pm Saturday night that the B Division title would
be all wrapped up. What happened to prevent this? Mike's fear of his defense
came true as Nebraska Def posted a -1 for the week and the usually reliable
Toefield and Zachery couldn't reach double digits like they usually do. On a
positive note, the Maulers still control their own destiny, and only need a win
over the Contributors to clinch the division title. Worst case scenario is that
Maulers slip to a wildcard spot, so Mike will be around come playoff time no
matter what.
Death: still
alive for B Division title and final wildcard spot
Maulers: clinched playoff spot, still alive for B Division title
Cows
89 Q-Dogs 65
Mr. Driver keeps his
perfect season in tact as his Cows reach 7-0 with a convincing win over the
Q-Dogs. Lead by their 2 stud RB's, Staley with 22 and Stephens with 23,
the Cows clinched the C Division crown. No time to let down for Mr. Driver as
his Cows face off with fellow powerhouse the Elephants in the final week, with
the top playoff seed and the team points sidepot on the line. Mr. Driver may be
hard to get a hold of during the week these days, as he now travels to Utah each
week to personally walk Luke Staley to each of his classes and double checks his
homework assignments. Tom was heard saying this week, "Pre-heat oven to
450, place cooking pan on middle shelf, bake for 10-12 minutes......yup, looks
good Luke, keep up the hard work". The Al/Russ show let their chance of
ending the Cows streak and keeping any hope of a C Division title slip away. The
Q-Dogs have been solid all year, but picked the wrong week to have a down week
in the scoring column. The Dogs were lead by a solid 27 points from ECU QB, but
had no other player score in double digits. The Q-Dogs have a wildcard spot
locked up, but can play the spoiler to the Commish's playoff hopes in the final
week. Hmmm, maybe I will spike Al's drink at the Basketball draft and convince
him to drop his entire team just for this week! :>)
Cows: clinched C Division title
Q-Dogs: clinched wildcard spot
Cossacks
90 Titans 68
Maze pours
salt on the wounds of Jeff as his Cossacks drop yet another 90 point week
against the struggling Titans. Maze continues to get solid play from his
"back-up" QB BYU, with a 34 point week this week. The Cossacks are on
a roll and have a wildcard spot locked up. Maze looks forwarded to the playoffs,
but hopes to get no more 0-0 from his Wyoming tandem, which is pretty scary that
the team still dropped a 90 point bomb on the Titans, yet again! Poor
Jeff.......and I truly mean that! Opponents are still scoring at a 90+ point
average against his Titans squad, and Maze just followed form again this week.
Jeff has made a petition to the league to have a $20 sidepot for the team that
has the highest opponent scoring average. Great idea if you ask the Commish, but
that will have to wait until next year unfortunately for Jeff! Despite the 2-5
record, the Titans may be the favorites going into the Loser Bowl competition.

clinched wildcard spot
Titans: eliminated from the playoffs
