Week
#6
The Stingrays WIN! A major upset is the headline game of the week as Merv
finally finds his way into the win column, at the expense of Mike's Maulers.
Those dang family rival games are hell! The Elephants and Cows keep rolling
their way towards the playoffs. Mr. Tom Brady's team is the first tp clinch a
division title, as the Elephants have the A Division won with two weeks to go.
The wildcard race is quite interesting, as there is a 3 way tie for the final
wildcard spot. This week's Division games could be the clincher for the Cows if
all breaks the right way for Tom. Let's take a look at the week #6 action......
Cossacks
77 Contributors 58
Maze takes
advantage of a huge coaching blunder by winless McSwain and walks with the win,
which keeps the Cossacks in the #2 wildcard spot. Maze gets another solid game
from BYU QB to lead the way to the Evil Empire Cossacks win. Maze has a crucial
game next week with the high scoring but snake bitten Titans, who are finally on
a win streak (1 win, if that is a streak?). With another 3 point week, the
Cossacks could all but wrap a playoff spot. McSwain out coached himself this
week, trying to find the right mix to get the Contributors first win of the
year. Blessings and prayers were even sought out to give the team the need
inspiration to pull off the upset, but in the end it was a simple wrong choice
in who to start that was the downfall of McSwain's team. After starting Davis at
WR all year, he found himself on the bench for the game. He responded with a big
game, which would have been enough to give the Contributors the win. Uggghhh,
that hurts! We were all pulling for the upset, but the Evil Maze found the way
to get the win. McSwain was last seen at a Blockbuster renting the movie
Hoosiers hoping to inspire his team next week against the red hot (HA!)
Stingrays.
Cows
82 Christians 69
Driver's
team reaches the 6-0 mark with a convincing win over the Christians to remain
the lone undefeated team in the league. A huge game from Henry (33 points) lead
the way for the Cows, who didn't even need stud RB Staley this week. Tom saw his
season going down the drain with the announcement of Staley's eligibility
questions, but then quickly recovered as Staley passed his basket weaving class
to restore his status. Staley will be on the field for next weeks big showdown
with the Q-Dogs. Rusch Christians had been on a roll, but picked the wrong team
to slack off against. The Christians are now in a 3 way tie with the Death and
Pride for the final wildcard spot. Nice weeks from Nebraska QB and WR Gardner
lead the way, but a big goose egg from top RB McCullough was probably the
deciding factor for Rusch's team. Things don't get any easier for the
Christians, as next up is the other top team in the league, the seemingly invincible
Elephants.
Elephants
105 Redhawks 56
Hey, check
the point spread on this game from last week!!!!! The Commish set the line at
-49 points for the Elephants! How about that one sports fans, couldn't do that
again if I tried! Ok, enough tooting my own horn, lets give credit where credit
is due, Mr. Tom Brady (sometime college coach, sometime 300 yard passer for the
Patriots) is still leading the league in points scored and has clinched the A
Division title with two weeks still to go. Ummm, the Elephants are good may be
the understatement of the year! Good timing for the Elephants, as their stud
Florida combo is on a bye week next week, but the Elephants are still a
dangerous team, and I know of two B Division teams that will be pulling for Mr.
Tom Brady's team next week against the Christians! Carey has remained at the
controls of his Redhawks team for several weeks now, but the team continues to
struggle to score points. Come on Carey, find the right mix next week against
the Pride, the Commish begs you! Just don't ask for a blessing, that didn't work
for McSwain, just pick the right starters this week!
Stingrays
86 Maulers 78
WOW! Glad
to see Merv took the Commish advice last week and started Clemson QB! Lead by
Dantzler's huge 48 point game, the Stingrays finally get their first win of the
year over the Maulers. Now this is the team Merv has been waiting all year to
show up. The 48 point game was huge, and TE Peele keeps putting up big numbers
each week. Merv looks to make it two in a row over the now lone winless team in
the league Contributors next week. Mike probably had a bad feeling going into
this week, he knows his Dad is just to solid a fantasy player to go through a
year winless. Those fears came true, as the Maulers just didn't have enough to
overcome the big game from the Stingrays QB. Certainly a respectable week
for Mike, the Maulers did get a top 6 finish, and still remain the leader in the
B Division. A crucial match up next week with the Death for Mike, paybacks may
be in order, and the Commish may in the wrong place at the wrong time. Oh by the
way, I though Nebraska Def was just a one week pick, just to beat Maze in week
#1????? The defense is still rolling scoring 24 this past week.
Titans
81 Death 74
Jeff vs Jeff, and the
Titans Jeff Myers was nice enough to pass along his snake bitten team luck to
the Cmmish. The Titans get the needed win, in a manner that had the Commmish
ready to jump off a freaking bridge! The Titans get solid weeks from Morris (21)
and Caldwell (17) to keep their playoff hopes alive. A big match up looms on the
hroizon next week for the Titans, as they face off against the Cossacks in a
game that will either keep the Titans playoff hopes alive, or end the playoff
hopes of Jeff. The Death...... well had a bad break or two, something that the
Commish could not afford as the team actually began having postseason thoughts.
Things were going well for the Death, until the bad breaks started piling up.
Jeff Myers has dealt with this all year with his team, so paybacks are hell (not
good as the Death team faces yet another Myers looking for paybacks next week).
What happened? Well Oregon jumps out to a big lead, they pull Death star QB
Harrington in the 3rd quarter. Not the worse thing that could happen, right?
Umm, actually yes, as Oregon began handing the ball off ever damn play to their
two RB, who are both in the Titans starting lineup!!!!! The Commish catches a
break, as the back up QB for Oregon runs an option and scores from the 1 yd
line.........wait a second .....holding offense. Move it back to the 11, first
play a 11 yd TD run by a Titan RB. Just freaking great! Then the Commish reviews
the Oregon St game, 3rd quarter first and goal from the 1, Simonton gets stopped
on THREE STRAIGHT RUNS FROM THE ONE FOOT LINE!!!!!! 4th down......TD pass to the
TE ..........Simonton never gets back in the game again, and there is 6 minutes
left in the 3rd quarter. Now tell me, what did the Commish do to piss off the
Fantasy Gods???????? Must have been my attempt at divine intervention on the
part of the Contributors! Oh well, life goes on.....
Pride
73 Q-Dogs 67
In a close
battle, Larry/Harry's team gets the win over the Al/Russ show to keep pace in
the wildcard race. The Pride get a big week from WR Johnson to lead the way. The
Pride have a favorable match up next week the Redhawks, but as is the case time
and time again, the Pride better not let up as any team can win any week (well,
maybe not the Contributors :>). The Al/Russ show didn't have any major
disagreements on the starting lineup this week, and the team loses. Funny how
that works?? A bad week from Mahe and their QB didn't help the Q-Dogs, but the
team still holds the top wildcard spot and I would think it is safe to say the
team will be around come playoff time. A huge matchup with the Cows is up next,
and you the old saying about kicking a dog when it is down.....
