Week #1
The College Football season is officially off and running! Week #1 saw the A Division go 0-4, while the B & C Divisions are the early "tough" divisions as they both went a collective 3-1 for the week. Everything with the website should be updated and everything should be set to go for the season. If at any time you find a mistake or even just have suggestion on how to improve the website, don't be afraid to let me know. Now, let's look at the action in week #1........
Pride
87 Contributors 81
Larry and
Harry (I think that was two of the original Stooges if I am not mistaken) start
off the season with a solid 87 point week and get the win over McSwain's
Contributors. The Pride were lead by Pittsburgh Def with 24, along with Suggs 19
point effort. Larry and Harry though are not all smiles these days, as they
watched #1 pick Suggs blow out his knee and will watch the rest of the season
from the sidelines. Losing the #2 overall pick is a pretty devastating loss, do
the Pride have the depth to survive, or maybe Brunnell will just take over where
Suggs left off. Not the best of starts for the Pride any way you look at it.
McSwain's team was lead by Graham with 20, and Milons with 17. All was not loss
for the Contributors, as they did get a top 6 finish. The other good break for
McSwain, is his team is actually in a first place tie, despite the week #1 loss,
go figure?
Death
66 Christians 57
The
Commish is out to prove he is better than the lame showing he had last year, and
his Death team starts off 2001 with a win over the Christians. The Commish got
19 from his Oregon QB, along with a now injured Stallworth with 12. The Death
did miss out on a top 6 finish by just 3 points, a frustrating thing considering
the Commish made a blunder on draft day, and marked down the wrong bye week for
Jones, and ended up using his mulligan for an incomplete roster, as he didn't
have enough players active in Week #1. Maybe the Commish is better this year,
then again maybe not? Rusch's team got a huge 31 point game from McCullogh at RB,
but only had 1 other player score more than 6 points. Pretty scary considering
his #1 pick Nebraska QB was playing a team in first Division I game ever! The
Christians do reside in the A Division, so losing week #1 is not necessarily a
bad thing in that division, it was the only thing this week!
Q-Dogs
102 Elephants 69
Al's
Q-Dogs put up the top score of the week with a big 102 week to turn back the
Elephants. Al gets 31 from Diedrick, 23 from Miller and 14 from his East
Carolina QB to lead the way to an impressive start. The Q-Dogs sit at top the C
Division, where the Cossacks were the only team to loose this week, so no time
for a drop-off in week #2, something that won't happen if Al's team keeps
scoring at this pace, no to mention the Q-Dogs have the Redhwaks on the schedule
this week! Brady's Elephant team posted a score worthy of a top 6 finish, but
against the Q-Dogs this week it wasn't enough for a win. The team was lead by
Florida QB with a big 32 point game this week, and being in the A Division, they
have the same number of wins as their fellow division teams.
Titans
78 Stingrays 56
In the
father-son match up of the week, Jeff's Titans turn back Merv's Stingrays in a
solid manner. The Titans posted a top 6 finish total of 78 points for the week,
as they were lead by Miami QB with 23, along with Oklahoma K's big 16 point
week. A solid start for Jeff as he needed it to keep pace with the Q-Dogs in the
C Division. Merv's team was lead by Watson's 21 points and Clemson QB with
13. Merv is not quite in love with his team yet, but he gets the chance this
week to prove that his team is not as bad as Merv thinks it is against the
Commish's Death team, who is trying to prove that the Commish is not as bad a
coach as everyone thinks he is in college football!
Cows
67 Redhawks 52
Driver's
Cow team gets the week #1 win with a 15 point win over the 'Hawks. The Cows were
lead by Virgina Tech QB's 23 points (I thought Vick went to the NFL?), along
with Staley's 21 point week. The Cows did miss out on a top 6 finish by just 2
points, something Driver will none to happy with if this happens on a regular
basis. A solid start for the Cows in the end. Carey's Redhawks post the league
low score of 52 points, not what Carey had in mind for opening week of the
season. The 'Hawks were lead by Texas D with 19 points, and got 12 points from
their Oklahoma QB, but no other player scored in double digits. Only one way to
go for the Redhawks....... up! Oh yea......the Redhawks play the Q-Dogs this
week..... yikes!
Maulers
86 Cossacks 66
Mike's
Maulers turn it on a blow away the Cossacks in week #1 by 20 points. A big week
by Toefield with 23, along with Nebraska D with 25 were more than enough to
finish in the top 6 and get the bonus point. Mike obviously liked the match up
of his defense, and wisely picked Nebraska to secure the win over the Cossacks.
Can't say that Maze didn't see this coming! Maze's team had a better week than
the coach expected points wise, as his #1 pick was off this week, along with his
#1 QB (although BYU QB's put up 26 points this week off the bench!). Things will
get better for Maze when his stud players return, hopefully he doesn't fall to
far behind the division leaders before long.
Weekly
Awards
QB of the
Week: Florida, Elephants 32 Points
A good start to the season at QB for the Elephants, unfortunately it went to
waste against the Q-Dogs and their monster 102 point week.
RB
of the Week: McCullough, Christians & Diedrick,
Q-Dogs 31 Points
Solid weeks from both players, different results for the teams. Al uses
Diedrick's big week to show he is the team to beat, while Rusch suffers the
defeat at the hands of the Death.
WR
of the Week: Milons, Contributors 17 Points
A down week for WR's, but McSwain's Milons was the leader this week, which
helped them get a point despite the loss to the Pride.
