VENOM – 2007 COLLEGE CHAMPIONS

The 2007 season will be remembered for its unprecedented scoring. It has been a great year of action as teams regularly eclipsed 100 points. To win the Championship, the Venom averaged over 108 points over their final four games. They advanced as the sixth seed and peaked at the right time. There were some great teams this year, and any one of them could have won the title. The key to fantasy ball is consistency and yes, getting the right match-ups!

Semi-final recap

Round two proved to be exciting as four great teams battled to the finish.  The Shamrox were the victors 108 -97 with a solid game to hold off the fire of the Dragons. The Rox advanced to the Championship game with great games from White, Bernard, Foster, Kelly, and the Rutgers Defense. The Farts got their usual great output from QB Harrell, and Forsett had an excellent game. The Boise State defense kept pace with the Rox Defense scoring 27. The Farts were ultimately let down at receiver when the DFarts coach gambled on Doucet and Monk. It was an error that ended a great season by The Dragonfarts.

The Venom edged the GCocks by six points 94 – 88. The Cocks could have pulled it out, but Fresno State shut down Hawaii in the second half. It did not help when QB Brennan was knocked senseless with a vicious hit.  The Venom squad was consistent top to bottom as all position players scored in double digits. They advanced to the Championship game scoring just enough, a sigh of relief was let out by the Venom coach around 12 midnight. The Venom responded with another solid game.

The Championship Game

Venom Vs. Shamrox      101 – 75 Venom

The fourth and sixth seeded teams advanced to the Championship taking the long road by winning two play-off games. Having knocked out the one and two seeds, both franchises were happy with the opportunity to play for the championship. The Venom got another stellar performance by the Oklahoma QB Robinson. Picked up as a free agent at the end of the regular season, the Cowboy slinger was the playoff MVP putting up scores of 30, 22, and 34. Ian Johnson showed up in the post season scoring 21 in the championship game. He was a disappointment considering he was the number two pick of the draft, but showed up when it counted. This makes the second Championship for Coach Myers, winning with the Titans in 02 and now with the Venom in 07.

The Shamrox had a great run in O7 as Coach Snyder reached the Championship for the second time, only to go down in defeat once again. In a season of great competition, it is an accomplishment to reach the final contest. The Rox will be a force in the coming years as the Franchise is in good hands.  The Rox fought through injuries during the season as White and Bernard were hurt. The great start by WR Kelly could not be maintained as he fizzled down the stretch. It was a fine season in which the coach can be proud.

Scrub Bowls

The second scrub bowl was won by The Predators with a great game of 129.  The squad was led by Superman who scored an incredible 51 points! Tim Tebow is a fantasy God as he topped 20 scores in both passing and rushing. The Predators were a few games away in the regular season from going all the way this year.

The Final Scrub bowl was won by the Spartans with 117 points. They had a solid squad all year, but could not put up consistent  numbers, their final game demonstrated what was possible.

The Cossacks get some consolation by winning both Scrub bowl II Contests. The Sacks will look to take the momentum into 2008.

Thanks for a great year! I am already looking forward to next year! It is a pleasure competing against all of you.

I Love this Game!

Jeff Myers
