THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR                             Edition 4.2

Week two scoring cooled down a bit, for most of the league, but there were still plenty of scoring opportunities. It was a strong week for Quarterback play as four Slingers topped thirty points. Four teams remain winless on the young season, but as we enter division play things can turn around quickly. There are still some cupcakes on the schedule that will skew the scoring, but we are beginning a stretch of very competitive games.  The Waiver wire has yet to heat up as many potential stars are already on teams. As the injury bug begins to strike, this may change. Here is a recap of Week two action.

Stallions @ Game Cocks ; 146 – 85 Stallions

The Horses came galloping out of the gate scoring an astonishing 146 points! After losing by one point while topping 130 last week, Coach Mike did not want to leave anything to chance. Rice was a thoroughbred once again scoring a strong 31, another great performance by the Scarlet Knight. The Run and Shoot is working to perfection as all three receivers scored high, with Williams topping out at 30. Through two games, the Horses are averaging 140 points! The Game Cocks hit another wall in week two. If someone said Coach Hackett would be 0-2 with zero top six finishes to begin the season, I would have said they had one too many Mai Tais, or their hula skirt was on too tight! The super hero from Hawaii once again lit it up, but his supporting cast let him down. The GCocks desperately need a win as we enter division play.

Elephants @ Cossacks; 108 – 73 Sacks

The Cossacks remain perfect as they improve to 2-0. Slaton started slow, but put in a solid 22 by the end of the day. Along with strong play from Woodson, Scott, and Grice-Mullen the victory was sealed. Grice-Mullen was a late rounder and a great pick-up, as he will score often on the receiving end of Brennan. The Elephants fall to 0-2 and could not make up for the scoring of McFadden on an off week. Brohm lit it up with 33 points on Thursday and things were looking great for the weekend. The Auburn D could only manage four points while losing to South Florida, and Savage was shut out. Coach Brady has a strong squad if they can put it together, he needs a win in week three or the season could start to slip away.

Venom @ Predators; 109 - 88 Venom

The Venom take the battle of Father vs. Son to improve to 2-0 and keep pace in the B Division. Painter created a fantasy masterpiece with six strokes of color in the end zone. Painters’ 35 was needed to overcome the off game of Ian Johnson. In a rare scoring drought he was only able to manage six points. With a strong showing of the Oklahoma State D and a flowing Rivers, the Venom were able to hold off the hungry Predators. Tebow matched Painter with a work of art of his own scoring 33. In the end, Coach Merv came up short with a week performance from Sweed, and a too steep Hill in Vegas failing to find the Zone. The Predators earn a top six, and remain in the hunt for the A division. Next up is the division leading Sacks.

Contributors @ Spartans ; 106 – 73 Contributors

The Contributors explode with a 106 despite getting a single point from Patrick. Holbrook and Bowman combined for 52 points, and free-agent pickup Jones contributed with 15. They improve to 1 –1 with a top six, and will face the Dragonfarts next week in division play. The Spartans had great games from both Crabtree and Allen, but could not get anything out of the rest of the squad. Ore has been a virtual no-show so far, but should turn things around. When he joins Allen and Crabtree, the Spartans could be a dangerous team. It would help if the starting kicker was not on a bye week….

Lightning @ DragonFarts; 85 – 65 DFarts

The Farts cruise to victory on the strength of the human bowling ball Lane. Aided by an overtime in which he had additional scores, Javorski knocked them down scoring 34. Harrel shined as expected, and the Louie kicker Split the uprights for a whopping 16! The young phenom Murray came back to earth after scoring 5 tds last week managing only two points. The Farts won in spite of the dismal play of the Louie D. The Lightning had players respond this week, but were let down by Smith and Butler who combined for three points. The Lightning will need to find production at Running Back or it may be a long season.

Browns @ Shamrox ; 91 – 83 Rox

In a very competitive game, The Sham cling to victory on the strength of QB White and the powerhouse Sooner receiver Kelly. Dorian Bryant showed up after being MIA in week one to seal the win. Next up for the Rox is the Venom in a Division Contest. Both are unbeaten with two bonuses and have each scored 226 and 225 points through two games. The Browns lose as a direct result of poor play by the Wolverines. Hart and Henne could only muster seven points between them. Like Michigan, the Browns fall to 0-2. The Browns got great games from Urretia, Bess, and the Ohio D, but left a scoring RB Bell on the bench while starting TE Sperry. The Browns have made a change at QB picking up Oklahoma, so maybe the strength of the Sooners will be passed on to this proud franchise.
