THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR                             Edition 4.3

The year is thirty three and a third over, and we still have teams looking for their first win. It’s not too late to salvage the season, but the window of opportunity is starting to close.  Week three was another explosive one for scoring as eight teams topped 100, while two were left out of a top six bonus. There were some tight games that could have gone either way with a catch here and a yard there. Here is a recap of week three action.

Spartans @ Game Cocks; 134 – 111 GCocks

The Gamers finally get in the win column with the top score of the week. Brennan had another great game, but many points were scored in unusual fashion as he scored on the ground going in from the one. He is nursing a sore ankle this week, but should be ready to go.  Sheets, Charles, and Keller all had strong games to lend support to the Hawaiian slinger. The Spartans lose while having a great game. 111 will win on most weeks, but this year it is just enough to squeeze into the top six. Tech Receiver Crabtree continued his prolific fantasy season notching an incredible 41.  With the emergence of RB Allen, the Spartans should be a dangerous match-up the rest of the year.

Cossacks @ Predators; 114 – 111 Sacks

In an extremely tight contest, the Predators lose a heartbreaker by three. RB Hill had a great game with 42, and Tebow was a fantasy stud once again. In the end they could not overcome the four points scored between Sweed, Jones, and the Wisconsin D. They garner a top six to stay in second place in the A Division. The Sacks win to stay perfect to improve to 3-0 with three top six finishes. They were consistent top to bottom, and have already surpassed last years win total when they suffered through a 2-7 season. Coach Maze left it all behind and is perfect on the young season.

Venom @ Shamrox; 79 – 60 Rox

In a lackluster contest in which seven of ten position players failed to score in double digits, the Rox win to remain undefeated.  WR Kelly continues to amaze with another great game to lead Coach Snyder’s team to victory. The Rox are now in a tie with the DFarts for the B Division lead. After a strong start to begin the season, the Venom are now hobbling as the team has been hit by injury. RB Torain has joined Caldwell and Brown on the IR to render the Venom non lethal. Ian Johnson continues to disappoint failing to find the end zone once again, putting up another paltry six points.  The Boise State RB is fat and happy playing house with his young cheerleader bride, and is no longer hungry.  If he fails to emerge from his honeymoon, it will be a long year for the Venom.

Contributors @ Dragonfarts; 112 – 105 DFarts

The Farts remain undefeated to win a tight contest. QB Harrell continues to impress putting up 41. RB Forsett showed up with his strongest game of the year, and Lane found the end zone once again. The Farts are averaging 115 despite getting a zero from an injured Doucet. The Contributors lose a tough one in which they also failed to earn a top six despite scoring 105. This adds insult to injury, and it’s very hard to stomach. Holbrook was solid as was Patrick and Jones.  LSU continued to be a great fantasy D scoring 27.  The Contributors have a good team, and it’s not too late to make a run.

Stallions @ Browns; 119 – 63 Stallions

The Horses continue to run with another strong performance.

RB Rice is proving to be a top fantasy back, and is a great anchor on a team that is averaging 133. WR Williams turned in another off the chart performance. The Stallions sit on top the C Division, with their closest rival 5 points behind.  The Browns got good production from the Oklahoma QB, and Hart backed up his words to beat Notre Dame. The remaining five positions could only muster 24 points. The Browns remain winless, and cannot afford to stumble the rest of the year.

Elephants @ Lightning; 109 – 70 Elephants

Coach Brady’s Pachyderms get in the win column with a great game to post 109. In this crazy year it was not enough to garner a bonus point, a point that was sorely needed.  McFadden and Stewart each posted a 25, but sub RB Toston had a poor game ultimately costing the team. Its two weeks in a row RB Stewart has produced, and this may be the year his great promise is realized.  The Lightning had a respectable game, but are still looking for production at RB. First rounder Jackson  continues to disappoint, and USC QB Booty has not scored this year. It all adds up to a 0 – 3 season.  There  is still time to salvage a forgetful campaign.
