THE COLLEGE COMPETITOR                             Edition 4.4

Week four continued the torrid scoring pace as once again a team scoring over 100 failed to get a top six bonus. Through four games, all three divisions are holding an unprecedented scoring average.  Division A is averaging 108, Division B 101, and Division C 94. A high overall scoring average also means teams are losing with strong games. With five games to go, it will be hard for some teams to keep up the pace, but so far this has been a season for the ages. Here is a recap of week four action.

Contributors @ Game Cocks; 120 – 79 GCocks

After starting slow, The Gamers win two in a row in strong fashion. QB Brennan was scratched with a sore ankle, but his back-up performed just fine. After starting slow, a 36 was in the books.  RB Charles had another strong game, and RB Sheets has benefited by RB Taylor being out with injury. If these two continue to shine, the GCocks will be hard to beat. The Contributors lose to fall to 1-3.  Holbrook, Patrick, and the LSU D produced, but the middle of the line-up failed to crack double digits.

Cossacks @ Venom; 102 – 97 Sacks

The Sacks win again to improve to 4-0. Woodson and Slaton did what was expected, but the addition of WR Iglesias proved to be a great pick-up. After flying under the radar because of the play of TD Machine Kelly, he finally got some press. Coach Maze jumped on him and got the benefit of his first Td’s of the year. The Sacks have won the last two games by a combined eight points, and have been living on the edge. The Venom were 25 point dogs in this contest and did not expect to compete. After getting news that WR Rivers had a bad back just before final line-ups were submitted, it looked even worse. RB Torain’s great performance almost pulled it out.  In a normal year, 102 and 97 would garner a bonus point…this is not a normal year.

Predators @ Lightning ; 130 – 77 Predators

The Predators, led by a running and throwing Gator devour their Prey. 130 led the week, as Coach Merv’s team exploded to stay in striking distance of the division leading Sacks. Tim Tebow is a fantasy god thus far scoring through the air and ground at a torrid pace. He has to be a Heisman front runner through four games. Every Predator in the line-up had a solid game. The Lightning are still looking for their first win of the season. Booty finally aired it out to score some points, and WR Douglas had another stellar performance. A factor hurting the Lightning is the play of DeSean Jackson. He has been a bust so far, and no team can thrive when their first pick crashes and burns. Jackson has been playing with a sprained finger, next weeks shoot-out with Oregon will be a great stage to shine. The Lightning need him to show up.

Spartans @ Browns; 114 – 87 Spartans

Earlier editions of the Competitor stated the Spartans could be a dangerous team; week four brought this point home.  RB Ore has been a disappointment, but he showed up to post 19. The player that is driving the Spartans is the incredible play or WR Crabtree. Through four games, he has 53 catches, 775 yards, and eleven scores! This is a solid “Season” for most Receivers. At this pace, the Red Raider will have over 150 catches, 2000 yards, and 30 Touchdowns…. WOW! The Browns got solid games from the Oklahoma QB and the Ohio State D. RB Hart continues to show great pride in a tough season. He has taken the Wolverines on his back, and carried the Rock over 40 times. The Browns join the Lightning at 0- 4 but can still make a showing with five games to go.

Dragonfarts @ Stallions; 125 – 106 DFarts

The Farts remain perfect on the year to lead the B Division. Coach Rusch has his team clicking averaging 117 points per game.  The play of QB Harrell continues to drive the Dragons, and he got a boost when one of his targets was acquired in a trade. Tech receiver Amendola had a great game scoring 26. The Farts won despite the zero on two carries by Javorskie Lane. The Stallions lose a tough one while scoring a solid 106. Through four games, the Horses are averaging 126 points. They were led by the play of Oregon QB Dixon with 40. Coach Mike had a weakness at QB, and went after Dixon who was languishing on the bench of the Farts. Through four games, the Oregon QB has been putting up Heisman like numbers. Unfortunately for the Stallions, part of the trade came back to hurt him as Amendola went off. The Stallions still lead the C Division, and hope the trade will take them far in the play-offs. They get stud Rice back this week after his bye, and look to take some frustration out on The Venom.

Shamrox @ Elephants ; 107 – 91 Elephants

Coach Brady’s Elephants have now won two games in a row after starting 0 -2. They have great momentum and a strong team, and could be a force the rest of the year. Despite losing in a shocker to Syracuse, Louisville QB Brohm had a solid fantasy game. McFadden, Stewart, and Harvin all scored in the high teens. The Pach get RB Savage off the DL this week and could have more firepower. Look for them to contend for the C division and make a run at the play-offs. Coach Brady is off strategizing on a Caribbean island, and should be energized to win. The Shamrox lose a tough one with a strong game. They were ultimately let down by the Florida D, and the weak showing of stud WR Kelly. The Oklahoma receiver lost points to his running mate Iglesias this week, but should benefit as teams now have to cover him. QB White and WR Bryant had Stellar games, and should be consistent the rest of the year. The Rox fall to 3-1, but are still within striking distance of the Farts for the B division lead.
