Feel the Pain (championship)

The 2004 fantasy season is in the books , and oh what a season it was. It was  a year of surprises as the Death and Fish were having down years , while the Filiricans and Contributors were on the rise. There were the normal playoff participants , such as the Bandits ,Maulers and Pain. Scoring was up as a whole with the cutoff being around 65 a  norm, and as high as 77. The new NFL rules helped this as well as our more lenient tier system. As  whole the score reporting was top notch. Jeff did another great job updating the web site in a timely manner. It was also nice to see teams that were out of it early , do their best and make fine comebacks. Those teams would be the Fish, Death and Manatees . The Manatees almost made the playoffs, as they lost on a tie breaker for the last playoff spot, after a terrible start.

The Championship  pitted the Bandits and the Filiricans. As much as it pains me to the say this the FILIRICANS are our new FFL fantasy champions. One thing about the Filiricans , we new they could talk the talk(mostly Johnny) but this year they walked the walk. Barber had a career year, as well as Muhammad and Kennison. That is how you win these leagues, we all have our few studs, but it’s the later round picks that make the difference. These owners foresaw the future better than anyone and they deserved the win. Al deserves his props as well , and was consistent as usual. Al made some great coaching moves as well. He stole Walker at the draft , picked up McGahee off the waiver wire , and picked up Wiggens as a free agent. Al played the priority list rule to a T and even innovated the use of priority list as a trading tool.

The game itself was rather anticlimactic. The Filiricans had 5 players score in double figures and this game was over early. The Bandits bowed out 63-89 and will take the second place money and consider it another successful season. The Filiricans now hope they can take their hot streak to beat the winner of FFL 2. With more money on the line they will give it there best shot a represent FFL 1 in a positive matter.

In the playoff team scrub bowl, the Pride came out of nowhere to win it with a score of 84. How they won with Owens getting hurt and getting a 0 is beyond me. This team has been on a major scoring skid , which made this win all the more surprising. Evans led the way with a 22, this was a very nice late season pickup.

In the regular scrub bowl, the Wapati over came 8-1 odds to win , making them the 3rd different scrub bowl winner. 106 points was obviously unexpected, and I’m sure it surprised Butch and Boyd as much as it surprised the rest of the league. Gonzalez went nuts with 30and Boldin came back from his injury strong with 17.

There is still one more week to win a few dollars, so put your best team on the field and good luck.
