Week #18

The FINAL WEEK of the regular season is all that is left. This is how the playoffs would look if they started today:

Conference 1:
Division Winners:    Destroyers 84    Beginners 72
Wildcards:    Wiseguys 73   Hummers 72    Cobras 66    Stingrays 64
Out of Playoffs:    Fury 61    Barracudas 52    Lightning 49    Clippers 45

Conference 2:
Division Winners:    Connection 86    Oysters 80
Wildcards:    X-Men 74    Puppies 63    Blackjacks 62    S.T.L. 58
Out of Playoffs:    Contributors 58    Intimidators 55    Death 55    Redbirds 53

All the Division titles are decided, but the wildcards spots are still up in the air, as are the playoff seeding. Good luck this last week to all!

Now, lets see how the week #17 results turned out:

Stingrays 3    Death 2
Despite having the support of The Fury fans cheering on the Death team, the Stingrays bounce back with a huge Sunday to get the 3 wins, and somehow sneak away with a top 10 finish, despite the normally out of it 120 points. The Myers gentlemen continue to find a way to get their teams into the playoffs, and it is looking like this year will be no different. The Stingrays OF's went 16-11-7 on Sunday to clinch the deciding wins. The Commish yet again watches his team let another golden opportunity slip away. This just wasn't the year for the Death Squad, but still a better showing than in college football. Oh yea, does that disaster in the making start again soon? Is Michael Vick eligible this year? Geeezz, time to embarrass the Commish again.

Hummers 0    Wiseguys 5
Coaches Chris/George take over the top wildcard spot in their conference, as their 'Guys team sweeps away division foe the Hummers. OF Green is really playing well these days, and the Wiseguys are playing well headed into the postseason, something the 'Guys top brass has to be happy with. On the other end of the spectrum is Coach Tyler and his Hummers. His team looked like a contender for the B Division title not that long ago, but now Coach Tyler needs to get his team back to playing major league baseball, as sub 100 point weeks will not win in the playoffs. Coach Tyler summed up this weeks disaster best, "I lost a nut this weekend".

Destroyers 5    Clippers 0
Coach Steve and his team get yet another sweep and wrap up the B Division crown. The Destroyers are the hottest team in the league these days, and Coach Steve is primed for a long playoff run. Gonzalez and Pudge still hold the individual player points lead at their positions, so the winnings are already piling up for Coach Steve if they hold on. Coach Steve has his sights set on the overall points title, which the Destroyers are now just 2 points behind. They need big brother's Death team to help them out this weekend, Coach Steve might be better off playing Powerball, his chances are probably better! Coaches Mike/Harry's season is coming to an end, not a good year at all for the defending champs.

Connection 4    Lightning 1
The Connection are back to their winning ways for the second week in a row, and the confidence is running high with Coaches Scott/Chris. The Connection have been leading the league in team points just about all year, and only need to turn back the lowly Death Squad to win the sidepot. Helton has the 1B sidepot wrapped up, along with several others. Bally's in Vegas has the Connection as a 3-1 favorite to win it all. Coach Larry actually got his "A Team" to show up this week, but against the powerful Connection team, it just wasn't enough. The Lightning faithful can't be happy with their first year results, as Coach Larry is a veteran of fantasy leagues, but you can't win every year! On to College Football for Larry.

Redbirds 0    Fury 5
Coach Rogan has his Fury squad making a late season run to the playoffs, and playing as well as any team in the league the last month. This week is no different, as the Fury get the sweep (the 3rd in the league this week!) and also post the league high score with 175 points. The Fury still need a little help getting into the playoffs, but another week like this, and their chances are good. Coach Rogan has his way of making the playoffs every year, will the streak end this year? Makes for a fun last week for the Fury fans! Poor Coach Hanshe and his Redbirds team. The Redbirds lead the league in one category this year, and that is opponents points average. The Redbirds opponents have been scoring a 145.7 points per week on average, by far the highest in the league. Every week a team goes off against Coach Hanshe's team, it has to be frustrating for the rookie owner. The Redbirds have played well, but just not enough to get in the playoffs this year it looks like.

Blackjacks 4    Cobras 1
Coach Phillips's team gets a solid week, with 4 wins and top 10 finish to pretty much wrap up a wildcard spot. A big week from Jeter leads the way, as Coach Phillips has his sites set on a playoff run in the rookie season for the 'Jacks. The Cobras go MIA this week, and it wasn't a good time for that. Coach Maze had visions of a division title in his head, but those dreams were dashed this week. The Cobras are still in fine shape for a wildcard spot, and they get to play the A Division winners the Beginner's this week, maybe a little flex of the Cobra muscle will get the point across as both teams look to be headed to the playoffs and just may meet up there later.

Barracudas 1    Beginner's 4
Coach Alford gets the big week from his team, 4 wins and a top 10 finish, and with that the Division crown is theirs for the taking. The Beginner's were lead by Thome this week, and the team looks to make a serious playoff run in the their first season in the league. Different week, same results for Coaches Bert/Pam. The Barracudas have struggled to score points all year, and this week was the same story. Not the best of seasons for the 'Cuda fans, time to focus on next year and get the 'Cudas back to their glory days (if there was glory days?)

X-Men 3    Contributors 2
Coaches Al/Mike continue to get the needed wins each week, as the X-Men have the top wildcard spot in their conference all wrapped up. OF Bonds continues to lead the way for the X-Men, as the team is poised to make a run at the title. The Contributors are still in a catfight for a playoff spot, and Coach McSwain is doing his best to bring his team back from all their early season struggles. Griffey leads the team in points this week, something Coach McSwain has been waiting all year to happen. Coach McSwain needs a solid week this last week of the regular season from his team, and if they can post a big week, they should secure that final playoff spot. A bad week, and the Contributors will be watching at home this year.

Puppies 4    Intimidators 1
Coach Levitre has his Puppies on a roll late in the season, and the team has a playoff spot locked up, barring a final week catastrophe. Nothing fancy for the Puppies this week, as the did score just 113 points, but their division rival couldn't break the 90 point barrier this week. Just win baby seems to be the Puppies theme. Coach Levitre looks to the playoffs now, just another rookie owner making the postseason. The story remains the same for the Intimadators this week, Coaches Ed/Jeff's team struggles to score points, and they are left to hope their opponent scores less. That didn't happen this week, and now the team needs a big week this week, and lots of help to find their way into the playoffs.

S.T.L. 3    Oysters 2
Coach Woog is finding ways to stay in the thick of the playoff race, as they turn back the division leader 3-2 this week. The S.T.L. miss out on the top 10 by just 3 points, something that could be huge as they are tied for the final playoff spot right now. Coach Woog looks to this week as a do or die situation for his team. Can yet another rookie owner make it into the postseason? Coaches JR/Corey's team continues to get some wins, but the scoring has dropped off a little for the Oysters in recent weeks. Are the Oysters top brass worried? Nahhhh, they are full of confidence these days, something that is needed come playoff time. The Division is won, now onto the playoffs for the Mighty Oysters.

Week #17 Awards:

Player of the Week:    Ramirez, Fury    45 Points
No, not Manny......the other Ramirez! The Fury's 3B takes advantage of a weekend at Coors Field at puts up the top score in the league for the week. After posting games of 15-11-17 Coach Rogan figured he was a lock for the sidepot, but Ramirez could only post a 2 point game on Sunday. Still a great week, as the Fury make a mad scramble to get into the playoffs.

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Houston, Connection     47 Points
Coach Scotty's team continues to lead the league in points, just another solid week from the Connection team.

Boxscore Blunder of the Week:    NO ONE!
Hmmm, I get confirmed scores from all games, and the results are posted at 10:30pm on Monday. Let's all try and do it again this week!

Quote of the Week:    Coach Alford, Beginner's
"Say good bye to MAZE'S first place bid. The new guy strikes again" Hmmm, them sound like playoff trash talking words. Oh yea, the Beginner's and Cobras also play this week, should be a fun week!

Good luck to everyone in week #19, the FINAL week of the regular season!
