Week #3

Three weeks into the season and a few teams are already showing signs of the leaders of the pack. Lots of close games and the scoring seemed to be down for the week. That decline was lead by a certain snake in the grass, which we will address later. The scores reporting continues to be outstanding, as almost every match-up was able to confirm the majority of the scores. I can't thank everyone enough for all the help. Don't forget week #4 begins the doubleheaders for many teams. I am hoping that teams are able to continue the fine job of reporting scores, even with the dual match-ups.

If you haven't done so yet, stop by and check out the league Bulletin Board on the website. Things are starting to heat up over there, come join in the fun!

Now we'll take a look at the Week #3 results:

Connection 4    Cobras 1
Oh brother........what to say??? Scott & Chris's Connection team are top ranked team in the league so far, and the performed well this week. The team had 8 of it's 9 starters score in double figures, lead by a solid pitching week by their Expos staff. But..........................they could have benched a few players as their opponent the Cobras, looked like a tee-ball team this week with their 77 point effort. What to say about Coach Maze and the dismal performance? Well, on a positive note it wasn't the worst weekly performance by a team this year. I received so many e-mails about Maze's lame effort, and was encouraged to really let him have it. Coach McSwain asked, "Does Maze get fined for a low total score of 77????" Nice idea, but I will refrain. Scotty summed it up best when trying to confirm scores, "MAZE if correct send it to Jeff. P.S. YOU SUCK!" Yes, that sums it up very well, and believe me Maze has been demoralized by so many of you that I almost feel sorry for him. Ummmm......NOT!!!! Better luck next week Cobras, maybe you can score 80 this week......baby steps, baby steps!

Destroyers 3    Barracudas 2
Coach Steve spent the weekend eating Cheesesteaks back in Philly, but his team did well enough to get the narrow 3-2 win over the Cuda's. The Destroyers finally get a great effort from Pudge and continue to ride the hot start of Luis Gonzalez, who suddenly has Big Mac nervous about the HR record with his torrid April. Coach Steve is sitting in 2nd place in the B Division and looking for another solid week from his team and hopes that his pitching staff will finally get on track. The Cudas bounce back from a 21 point loss on M-Th to almost pull out the total points. Bert's team continues to get solid efforts from many, but needs Erstad to start hitting like last year. The Cudas sit in the basement of the B Division, but have lots of talent and are only a few solid weeks from being right back in it.

Lumber/Lightning 3    Hummers 2
Rose's Lightning squad gets the 3-2 win, despite a 5 and 11 point game over the weekend. The Lightning  are a game over .500 and in a 3 way tie in the A Division, despite the  lack of power on the squad. This week featured 6 players scoring 13+ points, and survived a big fat 0 points from #1 pick Glaus. Larry is finally getting a grip on this whole internet thing, heck maybe you can help tutor Harry on what you have learned! Although there are reports that Mrs. Rose is behind all the computer savvy on the team. The Lightning have the speed to contend, but still looking for the Lumber to heat up. The Hummers suffer their first losing weekend after two great weeks. Coach Tyler's squad still sits a top the B Division, but can't afford to many more sub 100 point weeks. Delgado continues to lead all fantasy players in points, and added to his hot start with a league high 21 point game during the week. Delgado now has the side-pot for high game and high series, can he hold on? The Hummers are solid, and look to bounce back real quickly.

Clippers 3    Fury 2
The Clippers finally get a winning weekend, after a slow start for the defending champs. Mike & Harry scored enough points to get the bonus win and had solid efforts from the likes of Wilson, Cabrera and Pujols. Not exactly household names! The Clippers are still waiting for Big Mac to score his 5th point of the year, and might have to wait quite some time. The Clippers have talent, but is it enough to repeat? Injuries just may decide that for them. Rogan's Fury team starts off with 2 wins, and then gets swept in the next three. The Fury did manage to get the 10th and final spot for the bonus win, so it wasn't that bad of a week. Rogan gets solid efforts from Sweeney and Jones, but wonders what happened to all the hype about the Rockies catchers? They have disappointed so far. The Fury are also in the 3 way tie in the A Division, and looking for a big week to put a little space between them and the lowly Cobras, who they managed to actually score less than in a week this year. That is not something to write home about!

Beginner's Luck 3    Wiseguys 2
Coach Alford's team gets the 3-2 win, despite scoring less total points for the week. How did that happen? How about two tie games on Sat and Sun, and the Luck were the home team. The Luck were lead by Thome, $-Rod and Cameron who all scored 20+ for the week. Coach Alford needed the 3 wins plus the bonus win to get back into the A Division race, as they had managed only 4 points in the first two weeks. This could be the spark the Luck needed to get things going, and they have the talent to get back into the race in just a week or two. Chris & George have to wonder how you tie on back to back nights, and manage to score 68 points in those two games. They had the 3rd high point total of the week and with the bonus win, they do manage to double their team points for the year. The Wiseguys had solid week's from most of their line-up, and are already having a monster M-Th game this week. Things are looking up for the 'Guys!

Stingrays 4    Red Birds 1
Mike & Merv's Stingrays put a big whooping on the expansion Red Birds. The 'Rays 163 points were the 2nd high of the week, and not a good sign for the rest of the A Division.  Big weeks from Manny and LA pitching lead the way for the 'Rays. Merv and Mike have the team in mid-season form already, and have the talent to start pulling away from the rest of the A Division if they keep up this pace. Coach Hanshe ran into a red hot team this week, and could only hope that his team didn't suffer any long term demoralization from this beating. The Red Birds did manage a win, so they escape the sweep. Good efforts from many, just no Red Bird player has stepped up to lead the way so far for this struggling expansion team. Have faith Coach Rick, the season is still very young. And yes, I saw Punk Drew's good game on Sat, but I still would root for the batteries! :>)

Blackjacks 4    Contributors 1
Coach Phillips 'Jacks get the need solid week and take 4 from the injury plagued Contributors team. Coach Phillips spent the weekend in NY tutoring his Yankee players, and it paid off with 28 and 21 point efforts from Jeter and O'Neill. The 'Jacks still have a way to climb back into C Division race, but the solid week is hopefully a sign of things to come for the 'Jacks. Coach McSwain is still waiting for Junior's first 2 AB game of the year, and that hurts. 94 points will not win many weeks, if only the schedule maker had penciled in the Cobras this week, I can't imagine the smack that would have been flying then. It didn't happen, so McSwain is left to find a way off this slowly sinking ship.... his words, not mine! :>)

Pound Puppies 3    Creeping Death 2
A close battle all week, was finally decided late Sunday and Coach Levitre emerges with the 3-2 win. Both teams performance was solid enough to both get the bonus win. The 'Pups were lead by the sizzling Walker and a surprising team high 23 points from Delaware native Deshields. (Yes, I was raised in the First State, so I always have to throw that in!) Coach Levitre is only one point back now in the D Division, and look to take over the lead with another solid week ahead. The Commish was disappointed with the 2 wins, will take the bonus win, but the Death Squad needs to either perform better each week, or sneak in and change the schedule......Week 4 vs Cobras, Week 5 @ Cobras, Week 6 vs Cobras. Would anyone notice???? Nah, we'll get back into the race the old fashioned way, but I have to play the Cobras eventually I hope!

Oysters 5    X-Men 0
JR and Corey get s league high 186 point effort from their Oysters to sweep the X-Men. The Oysters had 4 players score 20+, lead by Giambi's 32 points and Seattle pitching's 43 points. The Oysters jump to the top of the D Division and are looking for more this week. JR refused to gloat over the thrashing the Oysters delivered and calmly said, "Oh by the way, Go Oysters!" The Oysters need to keep it up, and they will be tough to beat with weeks like this. Coach Al and Mike have to wonder who pissed on the Oysters cornflakes? It was not pretty to say the least. Coach Lovell has to be feeling the heat to send Coach Dotson back to spring training for a little more conditioning. This was the first week Coach Al was in control, and apparently he still is not ever the whole basketball fiasco quite yet. Focus boys...... at least you didn't lose by 100.....take what you can get!

S.T.L. 4    Intimidators 1
Coach Woog finds a way to get back into things with their first winning week of the year. Coach Woog still struggles with the whole internet thing, but hopefully he will realize the team has talent and with his focused attention, they can make some noise before long. The STL were lead by Mondesi and Cleveland's pitching, but are still waiting for many players like Bags to get it going. The Intimidators had a near Cobra's like performance, with a measly 89 points for the week. Coach Trotta's team managed to score 63 points on the M-Th games, and things looked good........then the weekend games started. The team posted 14-8-4 point efforts over the weekend. Coach Trotta can't be happy with that, and needs players like Ordonez to start hitting the ball or the may be in for a long year. On a positive note for the Intimidators, they get 30 points from Ziele, how did that happen????

Week #3 Awards:

Players of the Week:    Pudge, Destroyers & Giambi, Oysters    32 Points
Both players posted a league high 32 points for the week. Giambi lead the Oysters to a sweep and Pudge lead the Destroyers to a solid week. Not surprisingly, both teams finished in the top 10 in points for the week.

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Seattle, Oysters    43 Points
After busting on JR and Corey for all the home town picks, the Seattle staff bounces back with the top performance of the week. No surprise that with both the high pitching and player of the week, the Oysters took top honors for the week, not to mention the 6 team points!

Boxscore Blunder of the Week:    S.T.L. and Intimidators
Communication boyz!!!!!! These two couldn't agree on anything, mainly because they never contacted each other all week! Yes, it is a big help to me if you compare scores, but man it was like pulling teeth to get scores period from these two! Okay.......your both newbies, I understand.....just don't let it happen again or I will send you both to your room with no dinner! :>)

Quote of the Week:    Coach Maze, Cobras
What a week for the once Mighty Maze......heck I haven't even mentioned the $20 he lost for the week. Yes, he took some ribbing from many of us, and I tried to go easy on him here in the weekly report. Coach Maze summed it up best on the near tragic performance by his team, "I am completely baffled at the way my team went in the tank this week. I am very embarrassed to be associated with this bunch of heartless losers." Keep that chin up Maze, revenge will never taste any sweeter than after this week!

That is all for now, please get those scores confirmed with your opponent(s) and get them in on time. Thanks for your help so far and good luck to everyone in week #4!
