Playoffs Championship Round
DEATH WIN!
The Commish's Death Squad handle the Blackjacks with relative ease and are crowned the 2003 UAL Fantasy Baseball Champs. The Death had caught a few breaks in the first two rounds while the Blackjacks had been rolling along. The championship was a complete reversal for the teams, and the Death stepped up and posted a solid 160 point week on their way to the 4-1 win.
Here is a summary of how the championship game played out:
Death 4
Blackjacks 1
The Death start out the week right getting the narrow 57-52 win. Bagwell and
Kendall led the way during the week with 12 and 11 each. The Blackjacks were
down big going into Thursday but got a 14 point game from SS Reyes. Friday was
the big turning point as the Death posted a 39-13 win, thanks to 9 point games
from Nomar and Wilkerson. The Blackjacks had their backs to the wall now,
needing a 3 game sweep to win the title. Saturday was even more lopsided as the
Death win 35-8 to secure the 2003 Championship. Nomar again led the way with 12
and sub Mid Inf Catalanotto chipped in 11. The Blackjacks power outage
continued as they got 11 points from Lopez, Giles and Huff but a staggering -3
from the rest of the team. While the Commish was busy celebrating in Milwaukee
the Blackjacks staved off the sweep with a close 35-29 in on Sunday. In the end
it was first round pick Nomar that led the Death with 27 and got help from
Bagwell & Kendall with 22 each. The Blackjacks were led by surprise 3B Huff with
24 who was a solid player all year. Comeback player of the year Lopez had 18 to
cap off a big return to power for him. In the end, it was to much Death and a
disappointing finish for the Blackjacks. The Death celebrate their first UAL
Baseball Title, while the Blackjacks finish 2nd for the second consecutive year.
Look out for the 'Jacks in 2004!
