Week #4

The season is a month old already, much to my surprise! The last month has been a pretty whirlwind 30 days after my recent promotion at work, and subsequent traveling for the better part of the month of April. Hopefully things will settle down a bit for me and I can get back to the normal weekly Commish's reports.

The score reporting has been very good this year, please keep up the fine work everyone is doing. Many thanks to Steve and Maze for filling in for me while I was busy with work and vacation.

Here is a brief breakdown of what has transpired over the first month of the season:

In the A Division, the Contributors and Stingrays have moved to the front with some solid performances. Both teams 3 top 8 finishes in 4 tries. The X-Men have been an active trader so far while the Blackjacks have struggled to find the right mix so far.

The B Division leading Destroyers hold the biggest division lead in the league so far. The Rebels and Oysters are looking for some consistency, while the Redbirds have already traded most of their rosters since draft day.

The Death and Clippers are a strong 1-2 punch a top the C Division, while the Cobras and Victory have both struggled for wins in the early season.

The Hummers, Connection and Barracudas have all shown they will be teams to contend with, making the D Division race the most competitive so far.

Now we'll take a look at week #4 results:

Stingrays 3    Hummers 2
The top two scoring teams this week ended up facing off and the Stingrays walked away with the deciding 3rd win in total points. It never ceases to amaze me how often this scenario plays out over the course of the fantasy season. Patterson set a new weekly high with 37 to lead the Stingrays. The Hummers assume the top scoring team in the league role with another solid performance despite just 2 wins. Soriano is smoking these days and leads the way with 36.

X-Men 4    Victory 1
The X-Men take advantage of the low scoring effort of the Victory and get the much needed 4 wins. The Chipper/Vladi combo could be a tough one to beat in the OF for the X-Men. The Victory have struggled mightily this year, and now see their weekly scoring average drop below the century mark with the 91 point effort.

Contributors 4    Connection 1
Two teams that have played well in the early going, and it was the Contributors that walk away with the four wins. Magglio leads the way for McSwain as they hold onto the A Division lead. The defending champs had been on quite a role but manage just 1 win this week. Scott/Chris are already quite disappointed with their first round pick, although the Arizona staff has been decimated by injuries.

Barracudas 3    Blackjacks 2
The 'Cudas continue to play well this year and keep right in the tough D Division race. Sweeney has been his normal self, while OF's Kearns and Payton have been a pleasant surprise. The 'Jacks have stumbled out of the gate, Bill still has a quite talented squad that is lead by top OF so far Bernie.

Death 4    Oysters 1
The Commish and partner Tommy have the Death in a tie with a league high 18 team points thanks to the 4 win week. Abreu/Klesko were tough this week with a combined 60 points. The Oysters started out the week okay, but much to the distain of JR/Corey they could not win another game. Mondesi has been a stud so far for the Oysters.

Destroyers 4    Clippers 1
Steve's team keeps on winning as they easily turn back the previously league high scoring Clippers team. Helton is back on track this year and leading the Destroyers to a nice size lead in the B Division. Harry/Mike had a fast start to the year come crashing to a halt this week. The 'Clip had a sub 100 point week, after posting 3 straight solid weeks.

Vipers 4    Redbirds 1
Rogan put a hurting on the Redbirds this week, prompting a complete dismantling of the team. Delgado was the big stick for the Vipers with 31. Larry pulls the trigger on 3 trades before the week is over, looking to turn around a slow start before the hole is to deep.

Rebels 3    Cobras 2
Chris/Bob get a solid week as their Rebels try to get back on the winning track. Sexson had a monster 25 point game on Friday to take over the sidepot lead for the Rebels. Maze/Sturken keep the slump going as their Cobras continue to find ways not to get wins. It is 3B #5 for the Cobras this coming week! :>)

Week #4 Awards:

Player of the Week:    Patterson, Stingrays    37 Points
Corey had games of 9-15-6-7 to lead the Stingrays to the league high this week, just missing the season high by one point.

Pitching Staff of the Week:    Philadelphia, Victory    38 Points
Millwood throws the first no-hitter of the year giving the Victory a nice 23 point game on Sunday. That is just about all the good news for the Victory so far this year!

Good luck to everyone in week #5. I am outta here!
