WINNING VOTE IN RED BELOW
Vote 1
Teams tie in a game or series
A) Current rule, home team gets the 1 point win
B) Teams both get 1/2 point for tie
C) Teams prioritize backups, the team with 1st
backup available with highest score gets the win. This will apply to both an
individual game and series.
Ties are part of the game, and there has been many
games decided by home field. Unlike real baseball, ties are part of the
fantasy game. The league has used home field for years, but in recent years
there has been more support for doing away with it. Giving a 1/2 for ties
would give the league standings a bit of a different look, but it will not
penalize a team for being the away team. Using backups is another solution to
doing away with home field, and would make a team's entire roster depth that
much more important.
Vote 2
Pickoff -1 point
A) Current rule, the -1 point pickoff is not used
B) Bring back the -1 point pickoff
We did away with the -1 point pickoff a few years
ago because it was not a stat that was available in many boxscores. This stat
is readily available now in most boxscores on the internet. Getting picked off
is just as much a negative as getting caught stealing in real baseball.
Vote 3
Optional Player
A) Current roster format, no optional player
B) Bring back the optional player
The optional player was dropped a few years ago.
The primary reasons were it puts 16 less players in the free agent pool, as
well adds another round at the draft. These same reasons still exist. Adding
an optional player would give teams a bit more flexibility in their roster, as
well as reward those that draft well and are aggressive in free agents as they
will have that much more depth in their team.
Vote 4
Player position requirements
A) Current rule, 20 games played at a position in
2004, or 10 games in 2005.
B) Change rule to 15 games in 2004, or 7 games in
2005
C) Change rule to 10 games in 2004, or 5 games in
2005
This rule was suggested due to many players these
days that regularly play multiple positions. The league has always had the
20/10 requirement. Changing this rule would give more flexibility to those
players that play multiple positions on a regular basis.
Vote 5
Playoffs and final place finish
A) Current rule, teams eliminated finish in place
determined by regular season standings
B) Teams eliminated in first two rounds play each
other to determine 8th through 3rd place.
This was suggested so that we add more games in
the playoffs and determine 8th-3rd place by results of games. How it would
work is such:
First round of playoffs, 4 teams that lose their
game would then play in the next round. High score would finish 5th, 2nd high
score finishes 6th and so on.
Second round of playoffs, 2 teams that lose would
play for 3rd and 4th place.
The pro of this is that place finish is determined
on the field, so a team that gets hot at the end of the year still has a
chance to improve their final finish. The con is that a team that had a great
year, maybe having the best regular season record, but got knocked out in
round one, now faces the possibility of finishing 8th in the money. In this
format the reward of having a strong regular season is diminished greatly, but
does reward teams that have a strong finish.
That is this year's rules vote. Please send your
vote in the following format:
1) A
2) B
3) A
4) B
5) A
