Week #9
The regular season comes to end, thankfully for my lame Death team. The Stingrays, Pride and Titans were the division winners. The Aldoggies, Cows and Cossacks won wildcard spots, with the Cossacks just narrowly getting in. The Cossacks lost to the Cows with 70 points, which was 1 more than the Redhawks and the Cossacks got the final spot in the top 6 thanks to that one, and with the bonus win get the nod over the Maulers. The Stingrays and Pride get the bye in round 1 of the playoffs. Congrats to the Pride as they finished with a league high 22 team points, as well they take the scoring title with a nice 93.8 average.
Next up is round 1 of the playoffs and the start of the 3 week scrub bowl. Good luck to all the playoff teams, while the Death are still holding out hope they will win something this year!
Here is a look at the week 9 action:
Maulers 88
Death 29
Mike gets a win and top 6 finish, but the
Maulers were still 1 team point shy of the wildcard spot. Pearman led the
Maulers with 26 as Mike's team will finish out the year in the Scrub Bowl. The
Commish's Death finish the year winless as they 0-9 for the year. To highlight
the Death problems this year, three of the Death's four top draft picks combined
for a whopping 67 points the ENTIRE season! That is 1 point less than Woods had
in his record setting game.
Aldoggies 116
Stingrays 88
In a shootout, the Aldoggies secure a
wildcard spot with the win over the Stingrays. Woods, Clayton and KST Def all
had 20+ days to lead the Aldoggies. Merv drops the game as his Stingrays finish
2nd to the Pride for the #1 playoff seed. No worries for Merv as him team is
solid as they showed this week even in defeat.
Pride 129
Elephants 51
Larry/Harry close out the regular season
with the high game of the year, appropriate for the #1 team in the league this
regular season. Bell was huge again for the Pride with 36, while the TD machine
Fitzgerald ties a NCAA record for consecutive games with a TD catch. The Pride
have the next week off and look to add to their fine season so far in two weeks.
Tom's Elephants get the loss and finish 1 point of a wildcard spot. It was a
tough year for the Elephants as they started off fast but faded down the
stretch. Only the Elephants Def managed more than 8 points, and a 16 point day
from the RB/WR's was to much to overcome.
Cows 78
Cossacks 70
These two teams battled out and their reward
is they play again next week in round one of the Playoffs. Driver's Cows get the
nod this week as a big day from Rivers and Michigan Def offset the blunder of
starting Benson who was listed as out. The question for the Cows come playoff
time is not how will they do, but will Tom even know how they did? Maze/Sturken
get the loss, but by 1 point get the top 6 finish and the wildcard spot. A solid
day for the Cossacks who can only hope for a better result in the rematch next
week.
Redhawks 69
Contributors 34
Two teams that were competitive at one
point, but both finish out the year in a meaningless game. The Redhawks get the
win thanks to a 31 point game from Ross, and now play out the season in the
Scrub Bowl. The Contributors fall from grace continues as they fall right into
the Scrub Bowl. John/Brett were sitting pretty not that long ago, but then
injuries and poor play took its toll. It was no different this week for the team
as Davis and Jenkins both posted 0 points.
Dragonfarts 66
Titans 50
Dave's team finishes out the year strong as
the Dragonfarts win their second consecutive game with the win over the Titans.
A big day from Texas Def with 28 led the way for the Dragonfarts as the roll
into the Scrub Bowl. Jeff's Titans finish the year with a 4-5 record, but thanks
to seven top 6 finishes they win the division. The Titans did also finish with a
81.7 scoring average, which was 4th high in the league so don't discount this
team come playoff time.
Good luck to everyone in week #10! I am outta here......
