Week #5
There seems to be a reoccurring them in all the football leagues this season.... "what if?". So in honor of this theme, we are going to give all the Commish's Corner reports a "What if?" spin in analyzing the action. The big "What if?" in college this year has been "What if I had one freaking reliable source of injury info or playing status?". Yes, it has been a frustrating year for many as a complete lack of reliable information has taken the league by storm.
Here is a look at the week 4 action and plenty of "What if's?":
Maulers 68
Dragonfarts 66
Mike gets the much needed win thanks to big
days from FSU QB and Ohio St Def. The Maulers have been struggling with
consistency from their RB's, begging the question "What if any RB other than
Jones would contribute on a weekly basis?". Dave was oh so close to win #1 but a
lackluster performance by VT QB leaves them 2 points short. The Dragonfarts have
been saying all year "What if we actually had a first round pick that played
like a first round pick?"
Titans 71
Death 37
The defending champ Titans start making
their way back into the playoff race with a win over the lowly Death. The Titans
have been saying all year, "What if we didn't have the highest Points Against
Average in the league?" The Commish's Death team continues to be brutal. For the
Death it has been "What if McLendon was healthy and what if we had one freaking
decision made by the Coach that didn't backfire?" This week it was 0 points from
the starting RB's for the Death, as they had no chance against the balanced
scoring of the Titans.
Cows 103
Aldoggies 68
Cows go to 4-1 while Aldoggies slip to 3-2
as the Cows post the top score in the league. For Tom and his Cows it has been a
good year, but they were left saying this week "What if we had started Michigan
Def to really hammer the win home?" Greedy bastard! Al/Russ had to go a player
short this week due to bye weeks, and of course missed Mr. 7 TD's Woods the
most. The Aldoggies have to wonder "What if Woods could score 68 every week?"
Ummmm, league over!
Stingrays 95
Cossacks 73
Merv moves to the top of the A Division with
the win and 2nd overall finish with the win over the Cossacks. When looking at
the Stingrays one has to wonder "What if there was a few more productive players
named Williams in college this year, would they all be property of the
Stingrays?" Maze drops way behind the B Division pack with the loss, despite a
big game from Texas QB. Maze wonders "What if this stuff didn't happen to me in
every league I play in?" Maze knows his stuff, but his teams always find a way
to struggle.
Elephants 79
Contributors 29
Tom gets the win to keep pace with the
toughest division in the league, and it was a relatively easy win. Balanced
scoring for the Elephants this week, leaving Tom to wonder "What if I had saved
a few points for next week when I will probably need them?" John/Brett
have the classic "What if" this week that summarizes the tough season in the
league as their team drops their second in a row after a great start. For the
Contributors this week it was "What if we had known Miree was hurt and wouldn't
play" only to be outdone by "What if we had known Smith would be the Wisconsin
RB this week, and not have left his 30 point game on the IR and got just 2 from
his replacement Stanley?"
Pride 76
Redhawks 59
Larry/Harry get a monster game from
Fitzgerald with 33 to stay a top the B Division. The Pride don't have much to
complain about this year as they are the top team in the league so far. So for
the Commish the question is "What if Harry was doing the scores instead of
Larry, would I even have any hair left?" Love ya Harry! :>) Carey/Brian drop to
2-3 as they come up a little short this week. For the Redhawks it has been "What
if Clarett wasn't an idiot and now what if Gore had stayed healthy the whole
year?" It will be a tough finish for the Redhawks.
Good luck to everyone in week #6! I am outta here......
