Now that I have gotten back from
Maui and settled in to my computer, ( my wife thinks that I am attached to it
), I can write about last weeks games. Before I get into that, I would like to
remind everybody that Week # 6 is Division games at neutral sites. We can also
see the Division races tighten or some teams may break away from the pack for
good. We still only have one team, the Cows, who have yet to taste victory
this year. It must be hell having a great team one year and then falling apart
the next. We have only one undefeated team, the Mighty Titans, who at
5-0 with 5 Top 6 finishes are looking to almost certainly
clinch a playoff spot this week. The Maulers are only 13 points from being
undefeated like baby brother Jeff's team. Even in their 1 loss, Mike's team
finished in the Top 6 and has done so every week. Mike is also riding a
4 game winning streak and gets to face 3
time pansy of the week Contributors this week. A Division is
as tight as they come. Who is going to step up and take this Division? The
Cossacks are rolling now that they have been sent off to Siberia. A 2 game
winning streak is something to build on. Good luck to all and here is Week #5
TITANS 90 @
REDHAWKS 55
Lets just begin by saying that
the Titans had an off week and still won by 35. I, the Commish, still think
that RB Williams of Auburn was a great steal. He posted 23 while RB Johnson,
not that Johnson, the other Johnson, scored 24. I am glad to see that Coach
Joe Pa can figure out which Johnson to play as he has 4 on his offense! The
Titans even got a zero from WR Savage of Oklahoma. When you get a zero on this
team, you get cut. Look at the waiver wire from this week. Number 1 pick of
the draft Diedrick of Nebraska, got the Hawks the same as Savage: a big fat
zero. This is not what the Redhawks expected from the top pick of the draft.
They also got zeroes from 2 of their wide receivers as well. This will not win
you games unless you play the pansy of the week. This game had the best of the
worst when it came to kickers. 2 and 1 points respectively with misses all
over the place.
STINGRAYS 83 @
CREEPING DEATH 69
Merv kept pace in the C Division
with this much needed win. All teams in the C Division need wins to keep up
with the Mighty Titans! RB McClendon of NC State cam in with 24 while WR
Washington of Tennessee put in 22. The Death have been playing in close games
all year. They scored up and down the board but not enough to topple the
Stingrays. I must also thank Death owner Jeff Snyder for taking care of the
league while I was out soaking up the rays in Maui. Not only did he take care
of the college league, he also has 2 NFL leagues to manage. This draining work
may have kept his players from staying focused as they are looking towards
lucrative pro contracts and not caring about putting up huge numbers for the
Death!
MAULERS 84 @
DRAGONFARTS 78
Closest game of the day. The
Maulers score point 2 off of the 84.2 average score on their way to their
fourth victory in a row. One of the other Johnson's put up 24 points for
Mike's team. Maybe they are both using the same Johnson as both had 24. Jeff,
Mike, what gives with that? He also got double digit scoring from all of his
players except for his Georgia K who netted him 4. The Dragonfarts got 20 from
RB Smith of Georgia and 26 from his Virginia Tech defense. The rest of his
team did not score much. 2 more points and he would have been in the Top 6.
This could hurt come playoffs.
COWS 48 @
ALDOGGIES 123
Where oh where is Luke Staley
now. Last year, he would have put up more than 48 points by himself. 3 Steaks,
I mean Cows, got zeroes! This team is now 0-5 and have to face the now winning
Cossacks. The only thing that could be worse for Driver is he could be playing
against the Mighty Titans this week. Riding 34 points from their defense, the
Aldoggies ate up the Steaks and chewed up the bones. They did not even bother
to bury the bones as they are running wild! Russ and Al are the hottest
scoring team as we are coming down the stretch. Hey Russ, I, the Commish,
think that you should be showing your true alliance and start picking up
Wolverine players. RB Clarett has been scoring at will lately. He even played
the same week after having knee surgery. The Commish has been out 20 months
with 4 knee surgeries. He must not have a good Workman's Comp payment plan or
Long Term Disability plans!
CONTRIBUTORS 41 @
PRIDE 73
For 3 weeks now, the
Contributors have earned pansy of the week honors! This has been done in 5
weeks. A second 41 output on back to back weeks would get most coaches fired.
I don't think the 2 week total of 82 would have beaten the Mighty Titans in
any of the weeks! Florida QB with 18, two zeroes and nobody else with higher
than a six! The heads should be rolling at Contributor headquarters. The Pride
would have lost against any of 7 other teams, but they were playing against
the Contributors. The players were looking ahead on the schedule to see that
they had a tough game against the Stingrays this coming week and coasted to
victory. This was a good week to have an off week where the highest scoring
Pride player was the Michigan State kicker with 19.
COSSACKS 92 @
ELEPHANTS 80
The Russians are on a roll. Penn
State QB putting in 23 and the Georgia defense putting in 26 got the Commies
off to a good start. Even getting a zero from RB Houston of Tennessee did not
hurt as the Elephants got a zero from RB Golden of NC State. Maze was
beginning to wonder if 92 was going to be enough as Elephant RB Williams of
Alabama scored an 80 yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. He
finished with 19 points. WR Jacobs added 28 but the struggling Nebraska QB
getting only 8 could not save the Elephants. They were slayed and might well
have been looking ahead to this weeks match against the Mighty Titans.
Now that I am back home, I
will now be able to watch the games this weekend. With the high stakes of
neutral site divisional games, we have a few things to watch for. Can the
Dragonfarts defeat the Redhawks while having trouble deciding on which QB to
start? Can the Creeping Death rebound against the high Flying Aldoggies who
seem to have their team lining up for a playoff run? Is this the week that the
Contributors score more than 41 points and pass on the pansy of the week
honors while facing the 4 game winning streak of the Maulers? Will the
Cossacks be caught off guard outside of Siberia and hand over the first
victory to the Cows? Will the Harry and Larry show of the Pride be enough to
defeat the Stingrays during Merv's time of year ( the playoff stretch)? Can
the Elephants score enough points to scare or possibly beat the Mighty Titans?
In a few days, we will have the answer to all of these questions! Good luck to
all!
