Week 1 did not disappoint the
College Fantasy Football fans. There was many close games and there was a few
blowouts. After seeing the results, It looks like the C Division could be
loaded with the teams to beat as they went 4-0 with 3 Top Six finishes. B
Division was hoping that the season did not start until this week as they went
0-4 but had 2 Top Six finishers. A division went 2-2 but were weak in points
scored as one team cracked the Top Six scoring a division top 71 points.
Hats off to High team for the Week
Titans as they were the only team to break the 100 point barrier. Of course a
lot of these points were not needed as they beat up on the Pansy of the week
Dragonfarts who struggled in with 48 points. Here is a recap of
Week 1.
ALDOGGIES 60 @ STINGRAYS 61
First of all, if Merv was in charge
of tickets for entry to this game, we would have had a lot of disgruntled
fans. He originally thought that he was playing against the Redhawks. Luckily
for him because he would have lost against the Redhawks. In a very close match
up that was not concluded until Heisman candidate, Louisville QB Dave Ragone
brought in 4 points on Labor Day to win. This game should not have been this
close and Al could have had a blow out win had he started BYU QB'S. Coaching
Blunder of this match up goes to Al for the 29 points sitting on the bench
while getting 20 points less from South Carolina.
COWS 71 @ PRIDE 88
This game showed the courage of the
Pride as they were behind early but came back with the impressive win. Jones
of FSU got the Cows of to an early lead, but as the night game scores started
coming in, the Cows were soon turned into steaks. The Pride new what they were
getting when possibly the best ever college fantasy QB, Marshall's Byron
Leftwich, slipped down to the third pick. They rode his High player of the
week with 46 points. Not bad since the 1st pick in the draft got 9 and the 2nd
pick got 19. Driver, you can thank these 2 teams for your first loss of
season. Coaching blunder of the game goes to the Cows leaving 12 points on the
bench from WR Kelly of USC and getting a goosegg from WR Howry. Not much of a
blunder as it did not cost him the game.
MAULERS 74 @ ELEPHANTS 87
This game saw Elephants coach Brady
pulling out what's left of his thinning hair when he was following the
Marshall game on the net. One of the best kept secrets in college football is
injuries. His first pick, Watts WR Marshall, had a shoulder injury Friday in
practice. No reports of this were found until Sunday. While watching the
updates on Marshall and seeing that Watts was not getting any of the free
points Leftwich was giving out, he switched to the Gator game which had
Earnest Graham of the Maulers going off the board in Heisman fashion. Not to
worry as this is the Florida Gators. They can't possibly run the ball now that
Steve Spurrier is gone or could they. After Graham had gotten most of his 22
points, the Gators started to throw the ball and run up the score in Gator
fashion. Taylor Jacobs set a school record for receiving yards and piled on 31
points for the Elephants. Maulers QB, SIMMS of Texas, made an early departure
as Mack Brown does not run up the score. He managed 10 points from his QB. Lee
Suggs had to split time with Jones or the Maulers could have gotten the win.
Coaching Blunder of the game goes to Brady, even though he won. Leaving 21
points from Notre Dame K on the bench, including what would have been a league
long of 51 yards, gives him this honor.
REDHAWKS 71 @ CONTRIBUTORS
67
This game started out ugly for the
Redhawks as they're Oklahoma QB notched a minus 2. This when they could have
had the 46 from Marshall QB since they had the first pick. In a tight game,
the Redhawks were able to ride Moss, RB Michigan State, for 23 points while
getting the longest TD Run of the year at 50 yards. Miami defense scored a
nice 17 points. This pick was a tough one for the Hawks as Miami is off for
the Championship game if they advance that far. Frank Uhl, McSwain's new
partner, got to taste defeat in his first game. Things get tough when your
kicker is tied for high score on your team, even if it was 19 points. Coaching
Blunder of the Game goes to new assistant coach Uhl and his partner McSwain.
Had the Contributors started the defense of Tennessee instead of Penn State,
they would have been in the victory column. Penn State scored 1 while
Tennessee put 17 on the board.
CREEPING DEATH 59 @ COSSACKS
58
This game had the makings of a
classic for ESPN classic channel. It will go down in history like Flutie to
Phelan or Charles Johnson to Michael Westbrook. While the Vodka drinking
Commies were holding a slim lead going into Sundays game of Louisville against
Kentucky and the Death having Dorsey playing, it was shaping up to be a
victory for the mighty Cossacks. Dorsey had been shut down to practically
nothing and then it happened. From their own 5 yard line, Louisville QB Dave
Ragone, who was having an awful day because of his terrible offensive line,
through a long pass to Dorsey. No touchdown for Louisville as they were
playing that 50 yard deep zone. What's the big deal you ask. In the realm of
college football, that pass meant nothing but another completed catch for some
yards in the box score. However, in Fantasy Football, that pass was a game
winner for the Death.
That one irrelevant pass gave
Dorsey 2 more points on the last play of the game enabling the Death to beat
the Cossacks. BUT, there is a final twist in this match up as Coaching Blunder
of the Game goes to Maze. He started the CSU Kicker over Oregon's kicker. CSU
K got an ABSOLUT ( Vodka or total) 0. The Oregon Kicker hit 3 FG'S and 2 PAT'S
which would have given the ruskies the win.
DRAGONFARTS 48 @ TITANS 117
This was a match up that turned out
to be Worst versus Best. I have not seen such a lopsided margin of victory
since the USA tore up the diaper heads in Afghanistan. Jeff's Titans came out
and destroyed the Dragonfarts. Maybe Rusch should go back to the old team name
of Canyon City University. They played like they were still in jail. Jeff had
all around scoring that had this game over easily. He appeared scared when
BYU'S kicker only got him 3 points. The best came when Marshall's second
receiver had the game of his life with the Elephants WR Watts out with an
injury. Davis of Marshall scored early and he scored often as he put up 36
points. That was more than double of what any of the Dragonfarts players could
score. There is no Coaching Blunder of the Game here as no matter who on his
line up that Rusch would have put out there, he would have lost. With a few
transactions this week, maybe the Dragonfarts will rebound.
GAME OF THE WEEK FOR
WEEK 2
Father against son match up. The
higher scoring but losing Maulers are hosting the lesser scoring but winning
Stingrays. Watch for this to be closest game. Also keep an eye on the former
college commish going up against the current college commish. Should be a
close on as well.
BLOWOUT GAME OF THE WEEK
2
The Commish is going out on a limb
and feels that the Mighty Cossacks have a big challenge presented to them.
After the last second defeat at home, now they have to travel to the Titans. I
don't know if this David has enough to topple the emerging Goliath of the
league. We shall see.
Good luck to all, Tommy the Commish
Brady
